whitequark: hate to trouble you with this but is there a way (maybe a gtkw file?) for me to save meaningful names for "pin0..pin15" in the vcd output of the ELA?

Can I ask who of you has working experience in EE? Like what range could I ask for when it comes to salary?
<d1b2>
<Mathis> Your geographical location and work/experience background would probably help 🙂

<d1b2>
<tnt> Yeah, geography is pretty important ... also what's the job exactly ?
<d1b2>
<tnt> also ... not sure it's the right channel.

<transorbs> @Stormwind Midwest US entry level expect anywhere from probably $60k up to $90k depending on industry
<d1b2>
<transorbs> senior EE range you'd be looking at $90k to $140k, maybe a bit more
<Twix>
Thats so much compared to europe. But prices are much lower here(except for computer games and intel hardware, which are more expensive than in the us) ...
<d1b2>
<transorbs> twix: for reference a reasonably nice house in a just OK area here is like $150k-250k
<d1b2>
<transorbs> not sure how that compares to where you are in Europe
<electronic_eel>
Twix: when comparing us to europe salaries, do not underestimate health insurance, which tends to be much more expensive in the us
<Twix>
houses are more expensive than in the us. An house for a family i would think of 350 k€ in those times. But thoses houses are better build than american houses. We have really strict laws for buildings ...
Stormwind_mobile has joined #glasgow
<Twix>
electronic_eel, i don't think that. As health insurance is mandatory, everyone pays into it. The rate by law here in germany is 7,3 % of the income.
<Twix>
thats not that much ...
<electronic_eel>
Twix: yes, the health insurance is much cheaper in europe than in the us
<d1b2>
<transorbs> US healthcare isn't wildly expensive if you're somewhat healthy, but bad if you have chronic illness, etc
<d1b2>
<transorbs> I pay $120/mo for great healthcare, so $1400 per year. Had to go to the ER for 9 stitches in the hand and it cost me like $300 total or something
<Twix>
its cheaper if everyone pays into it :)
<Twix>
but trumps keeps calling it communism ...
<d1b2>
<transorbs> but the medication for my s/o who has epilepsy varies
<d1b2>
<transorbs> right now like $30/mo, for a while it was $70/mo, and can be worse.
<electronic_eel>
transorbs: you pay $1400/year healthcare and still have to pay hundreds for each treatment like the ER?
<electronic_eel>
what happens if you need more complicated treatment, like a big operation, cancer treatment,...? if you still have to pay for each treatment then, you may run out of money fast
<kc8apf>
your $120/mo doesn't include the base amount your employer pays
<Twix>
nearly everyone in my family had an Appendicitis(except for me). They got the treatment for free. I heard of people loosing their homes in america because of this ...
<whitequark>
electronic_eel: knowing a few people who regularly need more complicated treatment: you're basically completely fucked
<whitequark>
you're basically completely fucked *even if you make silicon valley money*
<electronic_eel>
whitequark: yeah, that is why I think a mandatory health insurance, like it is common in western europe, is a good idea. you don't have to pay for each treatment, just a fixed % of your salary
<whitequark>
pretty much the entire rest of the world agrees this is a good idea, i think
