<apc>
I now have 6 PCs, 2 phones, and a tablet crunching. moar! must have moar!
<apc>
*eyes a crappy little knockoff tablet*
<aybiss>
the infrastructure guy just walked into our small satellite office with a new multi-cpu server. first thing i think is "can i sneak boinc on there or would someone notice?" :-D
<apc>
:D
<xXUnRealXx>
only way to know for certain is by failure
<apc>
5 of my PCs and 1 phone are at work
<aybiss>
hmmmm... can i make enough GRC to offset the possibility of losing my job? ;-\
<xXUnRealXx>
not in the timeframe ur thinking
<aybiss>
heheheh
<xXUnRealXx>
yafu is a 64bit renderer
<apc>
is 3 projects at once too many?
<xXUnRealXx>
don't think it runs on 32
<xXUnRealXx>
maby
<apc>
on the leaderboard does lower teamRAC translate to better ROI?
<xXUnRealXx>
yes and no
<xXUnRealXx>
some are CPU only thus missleading
<xXUnRealXx>
some only give little credits regardless of work
<apc>
why misleading?
<xXUnRealXx>
some have fixed credit some don't gepending on work
<aybiss>
oh wait unreal, so all my crunchin on collatz 24/7 is for naught? :-P
<xXUnRealXx>
yes
<aybiss>
BUT MY SCORE. SO BIG!
<xXUnRealXx>
since Cassidy is taking 80%
<xXUnRealXx>
you get penuts
<aybiss>
i don't know why they (boinc) don't standardise with some sort of moving average scalefactor for each project
<xXUnRealXx>
might do better where there isn't such a BIG gap between users
<apc>
right now I'm on pogs, rosetta, and citizen science
<apc>
I'm staying cpu-only to leave my gpu mining ether
Bouowmx has joined #gridcoin
<apc>
at least until the math says to crunch with the gpu, too
<xXUnRealXx>
If % is some what reasonable between users than try that project if 1 person is running 80% of work ur MAG is super small and ur more than likely better off tying another project
<apc>
where do I find that?
<xXUnRealXx>
leaderboard
<apc>
ahhh ok I see it
<xXUnRealXx>
goin to top few ppl and see what project they are killing
<apc>
like citizen science, the pool has 36%
<xXUnRealXx>
don't look at POOL
<xXUnRealXx>
thats a lot of ppl in 1 user
<apc>
next user is 20 and the rest are <5
<xXUnRealXx>
what project
<apc>
citizen science
<apc>
grid
<xXUnRealXx>
so so, u can try science but science is cpu only
<xXUnRealXx>
with your 6 pcs you might get top 10 MABY if all on it
<xXUnRealXx>
gpu grid is well gpu so if u have a few it might be ok.
<apc>
just one gpu worth mentioning, r9 380
<apc>
right now it's mining ether
<xXUnRealXx>
prome grid is well I can try but I usually have 60-80% of project buut been away on vacation so gpus ran out of work
<aybiss>
i'm buying a new gpu (a 970 or 1060) and i don't intend to use it for gaming at all
<aybiss>
sad life for a spanking video card lol
<xXUnRealXx>
slavory is legal towards inanimate objects so ja, sucks to be a vidcard
<apc>
I got mine just this past weekend solely to mine ether. and then I hear, "nah it's not worth buying hardware to mine ether anymore"
<apc>
well dammit, I'm gonna get at least 1 ether even if it takes me a week
<apc>
I'm up to 0.3 :D
<xXUnRealXx>
:)
<xXUnRealXx>
sorry to all primegrid crunchers, I'm back from vac so your mag might drop by 70% there
<xXUnRealXx>
it wont happen for a few days till my rac builds back up 4-5 days
<lestus>
xXUnRealXx: what are your cpu/gpu total capabilities?
<lestus>
like i have 18 cpu tasks,1 gpu parallel
<lestus>
and xXUnRealXx whats a decent mag to have? i have 160.. which might be small?
<xXUnRealXx>
not certain, sh!t keeps getting in way of having a clean month run but about 112mil credits a month if at peak but sadly its only gottn to arounf 56ish that was 3weeks ago now I'm down cos of vac and maintenance
<lestus>
xXUnRealXx: do you have a mining warehouse or something?
<dyce_>
i have a mining SHACK
<dyce_>
:)
<xXUnRealXx>
just a small setup with a lot of gpus
<xXUnRealXx>
lets just say around Nov last year I just startd and had a mag of about 200 ish after some work and tweaking and learning and doing I figured out my best fit
<apc>
unreal do you use BAM?
<xXUnRealXx>
We need a DISCLAIMER in the Advertisements. "NOT a Get Rich Quick Skeam"
<xXUnRealXx>
yes
<apc>
do you know how to remove a project? I've done a detach-all but I can't figure out how to remove
<xXUnRealXx>
where from BAM my project list?
<apc>
yeah
<xXUnRealXx>
cant
<xXUnRealXx>
once u joined ur there for life
<apc>
oh. that would explain it then
<xXUnRealXx>
just detach and thats it
<apc>
clutter!
<xXUnRealXx>
yes
<xXUnRealXx>
useless wandwith wasted
<apc>
it'd be cool if my watch could crunch
<apc>
everything must crunch!
<lestus>
xXUnRealXx: re:disclimer, of course it isn't, but i would also like to learn how to maximize mycurrent setup, or if i'm already running optimally
<lestus>
also yea, multiple GPUs would do millions per month, would you mind sharing what GPUs you are running, I'm looking into a future upgrade
<xXUnRealXx>
that is a long process but I'm certain your in your learning to crawl stage in mag potential so boinc on boinc on
<xXUnRealXx>
well b4 NVIDIA fucked the world with pascals lol a few 980tis if I knew that a year ago ida waited and more than likely 4x my mag if I knew what I know then
<apc>
I'm supposed to leave 'for staking only' checked when unlocking the wallet, right? I've read conflicting bits on that
<xXUnRealXx>
yes and no
<xXUnRealXx>
yes cos u cant withdraw without password so your wife cant spend your $
<lestus>
lol ^^
<xXUnRealXx>
but if your staking only u cant resend becon every 6months and you'll drop from NN
<xXUnRealXx>
but u can resend it anytime manuly
<xXUnRealXx>
just gonna need password
<xXUnRealXx>
if unlocked
<xXUnRealXx>
it resends automatically
<xXUnRealXx>
but
<xXUnRealXx>
if I telnet through to your pc and take over your pc I can withdraw your grc without your password
<xXUnRealXx>
rule of thumb. BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP Unlock When your at your PC, Lock-Staking Only" when away.
<apc>
ah ok
<xXUnRealXx>
if u don't wanna backup you can always keep a few grc that if something goes wrong you don't CRY, and withdraw all to an exchanger and keep them there and perchaps trade a bit and double them. safe to keep in exchanger you just don't make 1.5% interest but you can make a shit loag more yourself on an exchanger
<apc>
I'm just still waiting for my CPID to show up in the wallet. but I guess juggling around projects I have to wait until I've submitted a bunch of work?
<apc>
still just says investor
<xXUnRealXx>
took me say good 3weeks
<xXUnRealXx>
my mag was tiny for a long time
<apc>
damn ok
<jamezz>
telnet...huh you dont say
<apc>
I miss telenet :D
<xXUnRealXx>
you'll see your starting to stabilize on projects you run BUT its a 3 week AVG on boinc SO only EVERY 3 months will you see your potential on a project if you switch project exactly every 3 months. than you'll truly know your potential
<xXUnRealXx>
lol
<xXUnRealXx>
3 weeks
<xXUnRealXx>
not months
<apc>
I think I'll just leave it on citizen science grid and then I'll add prime when I pull my gpu off ether
<xXUnRealXx>
citizen is cpu only so
<xXUnRealXx>
use gpu on a gpu only project
<apc>
yah. isn't prime gpu only?
<xXUnRealXx>
so your gpu isn't using a lot of your cpu to feeeeeed the gpu like some cpu/gpu cross projects do
<xXUnRealXx>
no
<xXUnRealXx>
primegrid is both
<apc>
oh
<apc>
hrm
<xXUnRealXx>
gpugrid
<xXUnRealXx>
I mean most are cpu as well
<xXUnRealXx>
so maby if you turn to some gpu projects that are not super popular you might do well
<apc>
that's what I figured, but I thought gpugrid is really popular
<xXUnRealXx>
I guess they all are in a way
<xXUnRealXx>
you'll just have to x-periment
<apc>
I have an old dual xeon box in my closet. I'm tempted to start it crunching
<apc>
it's loud tho so it'd have to stay in the closet haha

<Phay>
so on the google store. it's called skynet pogs?
<apc>
no you join it in boinc or add it in your boinc manager
<Phay>
:I ok. so that doesn't help me at all ol
<Phay>
lol
<apc>
or in the pool
<apc>
does that old phone not run the boinc app?
<Phay>
"It has a version of android that predates the BOINC app" then you said "just switched everything over to crunching pogs as that seems to work on all my devices"
<Phay>
so no
<apc>
it doesn't appear in the play store for you?
<Phay>
it appears. but says it's not compatible with my device
<apc>
ah
<Phay>
aka, android OS 3 I think
<apc>
there's another one that's popular in there, nativeboinc, but I haven't messed with it
<Phay>
no huh
<Phay>
4.0.3
<Phay>
but... doesn't work
<apc>
you could root and put a newer android version on it
<Phay>
That was the plan
<Phay>
BUT
<Phay>
I've done research for this phone and doing that and there isn't much on it
<Phay>
not expressing myself well
<apc>
might be outta luck then
<Phay>
xxunrealxx
<Phay>
do you know if NativeBOINC is safe?
<Phay>
DOes anyone know if it is?
<apc>
I just had to pull the boinc app off a crappy little tablet as it ran it but didn't have enough memory to crunch
<Phay>
my fucking friend was about to toss his NEW GTX 960 b/c it recently "broke"
<Phay>
he said he forgot to buy warranty
<Phay>
and I was like... wtf? in other words the 30day return period from amazon expired
<Phay>
So I'm just sitting there thinking, this guy is fucking retarded...
<Phay>
helped him ofc
<jamezz>
WOW! It is very nice seeing my projected monthly go up even $0.02usd after getting things setup correct today! Now im playing with my laptop's gpu/apu and desktop's gpu too see what runs best while I know what my cpu only boxes like already and they can continue on... Maybe I will get more hardware setup tonight and now that i am understanding terms and how things compute/calculate and figure out where I fit best... Older gridcoin prospecters whom have been
<jamezz>
mining months/year need to remember some us just got on this bicycle. Hell I am just starting to understand what RAC means... let alone how everything works.. Really there still is nothing explained easily and I am an advanced computer user! But hell , like a bicycle once you get going hell you goin tricks in no time... This complete paragraph dedecated to Phay , <3 - LL&P - 2" T2T
<Phay>
wat?
<Phay>
lol lemme read that
<Phay>
just today? huh
<Phay>
what is your laptop apu/gpu
<Phay>
oh yeah we always "remember" or know people are just getting on the bike. That's why we're here and act like this
<Phay>
just a strange/abnormal learning process imo
<lestus>
we need a wiki
<Phay>
damn. this sounds dumb of me to say this, but you're right
<jamezz>
sorry had to run outside , after i hit enter remembered my windows were down
<jamezz>
its an amd e-450
<jamezz>
iuno it was free
<jamezz>
4gb i threw a spare 265gb ssd i had laying around in it
<Phay>
why are you sorry?
<Phay>

<jamezz>
sorry ,
<Phay>
sorry means you did something against your morals
<jamezz>
sorry for delay to the royal Phay's question

<Phay>
the fuck
<Phay>
why you up
<Phay>
like an hour earlier or 2
<Phay>
hmm.. but it is 7am I think for you
<jamezz>
really i just have to try things on each gpu/apu and for cpu , i really need a strait answer but nobody will give it
<jamezz>
guess its seceret
<jamezz>
cuz its their " source "
<jamezz>
42
<Phay>
oh what no
<Phay>
I can help
<Phay>
it's not "secret"
<jamezz>
whats best for pure intel cpu
<Phay>
or anything
<jamezz>
i got seti and astroids been goin
<Phay>
like which cpu
<jamezz>
sec
<Phay>
give me specific stats
<Phay>
specs*
<jamezz>
2 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU @ 2.30GHz core instances
SudoNull- has joined #gridcoin
<jamezz>
and there are 4 of them
<jamezz>
so far seti and astroids crunch well but , i think low $$$
<Phay>
4 cpus?
<jamezz>
but i wasnt in the pool
<Phay>
or 4 cores
<jamezz>
there are 4 machines , with 2 cores each
<Phay>
only 2 cores?
<jamezz>
vps's
<jamezz>
yes
<jamezz>
free
<Phay>
oh
<jamezz>
that whole google shit
<Phay>
so each machine handles only 2 tasks?
<jamezz>
and i think my shits goin eat it
<jamezz>
ya
<Phay>
ok
<jamezz>
if you wanna last 60 days they say
<Phay>
so a total of 8 tasks
<jamezz>
default settings puts you 80% cpu , i set it 100% and steady run 99.5% cpu instead of wasting 15%
<jamezz>
er wasting 20%
<jamezz>
sure ya
<jamezz>
whats funny is same question , but 1 single 8 core amd
<jamezz>
the 9590 too
<Phay>
yeah. you want to override the default settings
<jamezz>
whats BEST cpu only for each those cpu's
<jamezz>
ha
sudonull has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<jamezz>
ya , i added an extra day and cache of work incase network issues
<jamezz>
since was new envirement for me
<Phay>
uh hmm. idk. I'd go SETI personally
<Phay>
isn't it CPU based?
<jamezz>
im used to like i say ddos , and network downtime.. least ipv4... less have the ability to ddos ipv6 , its nice to have... accept ipv6 is extreemly less secure being an extreemly younger less mature ip stack... it doesnt work like crypto currency
<jamezz>
yes
<Phay>
or you could go ATLAS
<jamezz>
and i been doing both seti and astroids
<Phay>
you actually might like that one the most.....
<jamezz>
and by myself in 1 month for astroids
<Phay>
yeah. Jamezz. Explore Atlas
<Phay>
ATLAS@Home
<Phay>
I feel like that'd be the best for you

<jamezz>
112k for seti
<jamezz>
, i thought seti maybe was slow
<Phay>
Then for phones and AMD GPUs, do MOO!Wrapper
<jamezz>
its great GPU on my machines
<Phay>
ok?
SudoNull- has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<Phay>
do as I say
<jamezz>
for real? do phones work better for those? cuz seti is like 2 days for 2 WU per device
<jamezz>
ive got a phone and tablet same cpu/ram
<Phay>
uh.. yes I think
<jamezz>
pantech 4100 and 9100 or someit
<Phay>
those should be like 2-4hrs per task
<jamezz>
wow
<jamezz>
no shiz?
<jamezz>
ill have to suspend them
<Phay>
Enigma is good for slow cpus as well
<Phay>
1-3hrs
<Phay>
NO. just cancel those SETI projects
<jamezz>
is it? i got a bunch qued up gpu only right now
<Phay>
not worth the time at all. Just start fresh
<jamezz>
for arm7 ?
<Phay>
oh. as for the Desktop/non-phones...
<Phay>
huh?
<jamezz>
wait what
<Phay>
are you talking about phones or computers atm
<jamezz>
you are all over the place , obviously GPU i wasnt talking phone
<jamezz>
i have everything
<jamezz>
i have desktop cpu/gpu , phone , tablet , laptop apu/gpu and 6 linux cpu only
<jamezz>
the LAST question
<jamezz>
was , you said dump seti on my phone and tablet
<Phay>
Phone+Tablet = Moo!Wrapper
<Phay>
yes. dump those
<jamezz>
i said , really for arm7 , moo! be way more suited
<jamezz>
ok
<Phay>
b/c 2 days for one task won't really yield jack shit
<Phay>
the reward will be low and it just will be a waste of time IMO
<Phay>
you're talking losing 1day of work on a TABLET
<Phay>
that's nothing
<Phay>
just start fresh
<jamezz>
this is why i keep asking questions... you guys fun these things already and on a plethera of devices threw the pool
<jamezz>
na
<jamezz>
not even that
<Phay>
if this was a week long task for Primegrid, and you were 3 days in, that's another story
<Phay>
but it's not
<Phay>
but yeah
<Phay>
well the only reason I help you is because I know you'll pay me later
<Phay>
joke
<Peppernrino>
if your amd gpu can do double-precision, do milkyway@home. :)
<jamezz>
well
<jamezz>
fuck
<jamezz>
now they are fucked up
<Peppernrino>
^
<jamezz>
grrr , its not your fault
<jamezz>
maybe ill pay everyone back!
<jamezz>
and i have primegrid on my desktop
<Phay>
if your amd gpu can do double-precision, do milkyway@home. :)
<Phay>
WELL
<jamezz>
and , i have to add all to my desktop... and suspend/nowork at least no matter what so woo!wrapper i need add to the desktop since my wallet is there
<jamezz>
so far collatz is fastest on my desktop gpu
<jamezz>
12minutes
<jamezz>
seti gpu 27 mins
<jamezz>
astroids 14
<Phay>
k
<jamezz>
im trying out 4 new gpu projects tonight
<Phay>
back
<Phay>
4???
<Phay>
why...
<jamezz>
wb
<jamezz>
well , not at once
<Phay>
I hate Collatz
<jamezz>
me too
<jamezz>
the idea even
<jamezz>
:(
<Phay>
then don't do it
<jamezz>
i wanted to run what i support :(
<jamezz>
well

<jamezz>
and i have fan city
<Phay>
if you don't like an organization, do another one :V
<Phay>
ikr
<jamezz>
well not that i dont " support "
<jamezz>
i know nothing about it.. seti@home is where this started.. so... as i said when i joined
<jamezz>
and then , 2012 and 2012AD , astroids@home was no question...
<jamezz>
we only can process 10% the sky before astroids@home i wonder how much now
<Phay>
uh.. within 10min I think you could see the effects of heat
<Phay>
I used to get problems a couple hours in.. but that was more MY SPECIFIC build
<jamezz>
with collatz does reboot count for effects?
<Phay>
it was heavy :I
<jamezz>
i watch temps
<jamezz>
cpu has dual radiator the h110gtx
<jamezz>
and i have 3 fans extra on gpu , 2 underside and 1 upside
<jamezz>

<jamezz>

<jamezz>
and a fan for blowing up air ballons in my doorway
<jamezz>
plus 2 in the window
<jamezz>

<Phay>

<jamezz>
i can linux coretemp, hddtemp , gputemp etc that did that
<jamezz>

sure
<jamezz>
tipbot out
<jamezz>
poor bot
<jamezz>
it should be from the core of GRC n special coins
<jamezz>
but the more players idle the less coin for the ppl from the start
<jamezz>
so the answer the why 4.... as i said i am trying 4 new gpu projects tonight... since you have to add them anyways to the machine with the wallet... its the machine with the wallet that is my best crunching machine... sooooo

Working on getting 16.04.1 Ubuntu Server on my laptops
<Phay>
so far having a bit of trouble on the first one... I can't seem to access us.archive.ubuntu.com or something
<Phay>
I'm using wireless straight out of the installer, so I may have to dl/install wifi-daemon or something. I can't remember what it's called

<Phay>
would you recommend any specific Wifi network manager (not drivers) for Ubuntu Server? so TUI
<Tahvok>
Phay: not sure what that is.. Have you even managed to connect to your network?
<Phay>
during the setup, yes.. but now I don't think I can
<Phay>
so I have it installed and up running now
<Phay>
How can I test if I have internet?

<apc>
ok so I'm mining solo, crunching away, wallet is unlocked in staking-only, and I have 12 GRC. is there anything else I need to do to get my CPID to show up in the wallet, or am I now just waiting?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
apc: did you send a beacon ?
<apc>
instructions say don't send a beacon until after it shows a CPID
<apc>
so no, I have not

sending a beacon kicks back an error as I'm still showing as an investor

in the BOINC project you also joined team gridcoin ?

<Erkan_Yilmaz>
I see there was a newer superblock 17h ago
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
so, apc you are running your wallet since 16h or longer ?
<apc>
yes, but I juggled projects last night, if that matters
<apc>
12 hrs ago
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
so, if all would be fine, and your beacon would go out, then after the next superblock comes in, you'd be ok
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
but you just said you can not send the beacon, so the wallet would have the same prob since it does sending beaocn automatic sometimes
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
without beacon, the Gridcoin wallet doesn't know of you
<Erkan_Yilmaz>

<Erkan_Yilmaz>
type in your debug console: list cpids

yup

<Erkan_Yilmaz>
well, not all bad, when you see in the result of that command your cpid
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
do you see for your cpid on boincstats also values ?
<apc>
and it's the same as in BAM which is the same as the project
<apc>
yup
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
then, I think, you just need to wait
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
but that the beacon is not sent out is a little strange

<tr0nic>
thx for credit - after my mining experience it started trading and the last 6 months I "studied" the charts very well and there are often forming patterns
<Tahvok>
You get a memory leak, and the wallet is getting stuck if you try to send grc

Can anyone confirm?

Hello, having difficulty getting set up so "Gridcoin" shows up under the TEAMheading. Have been running rosetta@home and cosmology@home. Cosmo seemed to set up just fine so I'm not sure about the problem with rosetta. As always any help is greatly appreciated.
<brewsmithy>
hi Musicman9566 not sure what you need. Do you use rosetta@home or !bam or another manager to control your WUs in boinc?
<brewsmithy>
Musicman9566 at the rosetta web site if you log into your account, on the left side will be - Community - then Member of team . . . you can join gridcoin there
<brewsmithy>
Ok you have to go to the website for the project (above) to join a team
<Musicman9566>
I guess I'm actually trying to join the Gridcoin pool. Is that accomplished on the rosetta website also?
<pine_cone>
Ah you should head to pool.gridcoin.co and check out the instructions there
<pine_cone>
You need to join the pool there, then add the pool address as your accoint manager in the BOINC Manager
<pine_cone>
Then you can add whichever projects you wish to contribute to, from the pool website
<brewsmithy>
oh no. . . the pool is different - first all your projects running on boinc ( boinc manager ) must be part of team gridcoin to earn gridcoin. Then you can earn gridcoin ( and run the gridcoin wallet ) . You can join the pool, and they have a pool manager where you control what work units ( WUs ) get run in boinc
<Musicman9566>
brewsmithy It seems that I still have something amiss, my username is still under the Account heading and not gridcoin.pool.
<jamezz>
damn fart waking my slumber , its not noon yet... what is this 8am bs , i didnt know my clock was capable of showing this AM thing after 4
<brewsmithy>
Musicman9566 in boinc manager - Projects tab - highlight ( click on ) any projects running prior to using the pool, then on the left side click - Remove . . . all those with account with your username, not the pool
<brewsmithy>
( you will lose credit for any projects running on boinc right now when you do . . )
<Musicman9566>
done
<Musicman9566>
not a problem with the lost credit
<brewsmithy>
ok in the pool did you - 7. Select which projects you want to run on your profile and any settings for them.
<brewsmithy>
Musicman9566 did you - 8. Resync with the account manager in your BOINC client by going to "Tools > Synchronize with GridCoin.co Pool".
<brewsmithy>
(Optional) To verify projects are researching for the pool, "pool.gridcoin.co" will be shown under "Account" in BOINC's "Projects" tab.
<Musicman9566>
Ok, giving it a try. Both projects that I was running before was on the whitelist so I'm going after those unless you have a suggestion of better ones.
<brewsmithy>
Yes I have suggestions - lets get your set up working first though
<Musicman9566>
Ok, thanks
<brewsmithy>
(not trying to be rude, but choosing projects can be an involved task
<brewsmithy>
Do you have the pool.gridcoin.co projects in your boinc now Musicman9566 ?
<Musicman9566>
Working on it. Thankful for your help and experience, hopefully I can get through the "led by the hand" phase and help to lead others when my experience level.
<Musicman9566>
Do I have to change the project URL to gridcoin.pool?
<brewsmithy>
Cheers!! It can take a while, so no worries, and no problem Musicman9566
<brewsmithy>
4. In your BOINC client make sure "Advanced view..." is selected from "View > Advanced view...".
<brewsmithy>
5. Now go to "Tools > Use account manager..." and enter "http://pool.gridcoin.co" in the "Account manager URL" box.

<brewsmithy>
Musicman9566 - where ? in the pool or the boinc manager?
<brewsmithy>

<Musicman9566>
Boinc Mgr
<brewsmithy>
ok then you are attached to the pool already, what happens when you click on your Projects tab in boinc manager, anything there?

<Musicman9566>
With the proper Acct and team
<brewsmithy>

<brewsmithy>

<Musicman9566>

<brewsmithy>

<brewsmithy>
GRC Address: on the top of the pool page above where you selected your projects to run for the pool
<brewsmithy>
Musicman9566 im just trying to figure out . . . if the pool has your GRC address - your "pay to me" address, then you will get paid by the pool

nice.
<NeuralMiner>
now only use the pool site to set your projects. do not add them directly in boinc.
<Mercosity>
Funny I had added all the projects on each mc on the web but obviously I didn't coonect the dots! I knew something had gone wrong somewhere but didn't realise that it shouldn't show my acc in BOINC man.
<NeuralMiner>
at least it's working now

<Peppernrino>
could we make a BOINC project to track the pervasiveness of ransomware attacks?
<Peppernrino>
or something?
<Peppernrino>
“real-time protection powered by machine learning and intelligent automation”
<fkinglag>
skynet
<Peppernrino>
that sounds distributable to me somehow
<Peppernrino>
like a distributed antivirus project
<Peppernrino>
!
<Peppernrino>
like, the project could work as a normal av, but the boinc work unit output could be spit to a central server.
<NeuralMiner>
what would the work unit be?
<Peppernrino>
kind of like wuprop
<customminer>
>accidentally spreads ransomware as wu
<Peppernrino>
the work unit would be the virus scan
<Peppernrino>
then it could send you another appropriate work unit to cure the virus
<customminer>
wat
<NeuralMiner>
lol
<Peppernrino>
that way, we could ahve packages for download to cure known viruses.
<Peppernrino>
:D

it sounds crazy now

<Peppernrino>

is there some kind of virus distribution table?

<NeuralMiner>
lol
<customminer>
lol yes
<brewsmithy>
that explains the cat liking to nap on top of my pc case. . .
<Zach_S>
is GPUGrid having downtime or something? I added it and still have 0 work done
<brewsmithy>
. . and why most of the paint cooked off . .
<brewsmithy>
at least milkyway is happy - State: All (1806) · In progress (12) · Validation pending (4) · Validation inconclusive (35) · Valid (1752) · Invalid (2) · Error (1)

i've been watching gpugrid, and it always only has 1 WU to send, even though the in progress keeps changing.
<NeuralMiner>
i dont know what's up with that.
<brewsmithy>
been working on my boinc work scheduler . . trying to get it to automatically balance loading, it does not do well at it left alone . . . but, im getting closer i think

<brewsmithy>
just counted, and have 25 total work units running at the same time between gpu/cpu/VBox
<brewsmithy>
i freely share whatever i figure out in boinc to help out my fellow gridcoiners
<brewsmithy>
on a 4 core processor with 8 gig ram, lol
<customminer>
25 work units running at the same time on 4 CPUs?!
<customminer>
have you compared doing that for 30days vs normal scheduling for 30days?
<customminer>
I'd have thought it would have starved the individual WU's of resources causing them to take longer to compute?
<brewsmithy>
1 - 4 core cpu . . . and i basically increase the work load until the counter ticks ( clock ticks on the cpu ) no longer count down the Remaining time on each WU by at least 1 second or more . .
<brewsmithy>
so, run 1 WU, each cpu clock tick goes down like 15-45 seconds remaining. . . add a WU, 10-25, add a WU - 5-15 . . . until finally you have 25 WUs counting down 1 second per cpu tick
<brewsmithy>
similar with the GPU, using GPU Tweek, switch WU counts around until you have 100% utilization full time with no dips . . .
<brewsmithy>
havent let it run untweeked for 30 days yet. . . I should, just set it and forget it, see what it does
u77 has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<brewsmithy>
I do know, if I pick 5 projects, set them to run 1 WU at a time, and leave it alone, I will have about 5 magnitude. . . . tweeked, it will get up as high as 60 magnitude. . . hell o a difference
<Zach_S>
doesnt that affect the lifetime of the computer parts
<Zach_S>
speaking of lifetime, im trying to figure out a good way to cool my laptop better
<moisesm123>
huh? My wallet restarted? o.O
<brewsmithy>
Zach_S every switch has only so many switches in its lifetime, the more you switch, the fewer you have left. . . and always use watercooling on your cpu, . . .

switch?

also on my desktop I just use air cooling and my CPU maxes at 60C

<Zach_S>
wtf... even running at 50% CPU time my CPU heats up enough to get to 88C
<Zach_S>
the default for talking about PC temps is C
<Zach_S>
ive never seen anyone use F

except you

F is what you can feel, C is what you can measure, and K is for science, bitches

<Zach_S>
well im gonna try crunching with limits in place
<Zach_S>
but the vents are in the back, not the bottom
<Phay>
regardless
<Zach_S>
and I use it for music
<Phay>
I suggest trying that
<Phay>
it has saved my laptops big time
<Zach_S>
im gonna try a few things soon, but I cant do that because I use it every day
<Phay>
take out the battery when mining as well
<Zach_S>
hmmm
<Phay>
the battery is the hottest part
<Phay>
plus it's modular
<Zach_S>
thats an interesting idea
<Phay>
I suggest that in general
<Phay>
that way the battery doesn't wear down
<Zach_S>
i probably dont need the battery anyway because I keep it constantly plugged in
<Phay>
great
<Phay>
That should lower it roughly.. 10-15C
<Zach_S>
though without a battery if we get a brownout it will shut down
<Phay>
true. BUT, you won't lose anything
<Phay>
just keep it in a power surge
<Phay>
same as any other computer with anyone else here
<Zach_S>
dont worry everything is plugged into some nice surge protectors
<Phay>
well.. I guess some of us have Back-up Batteries for our servers
<Phay>
great
<Phay>
I highly suggest you get on that.
<Phay>
Also Try getting Core Temp and GPU-Z if you want
<Phay>
I have found those to be great. If I recall...there is another boinctemp program.......
<Zach_S>
im just checking with msi afterburner
<Phay>
hmm ok. that works
<Phay>
I like simple programs for this stuff
<Zach_S>
and my current settings now on boinc are maxing it out at about 80C
<Zach_S>
and thats only half the time
<Phay>
half the time?
<Zach_S>
later I will do all the other stuff
<Zach_S>
CPU time is set to 50%
<Phay>
ok
<Zach_S>
i have a crap ton of stuff plugged into my laptop
<Phay>
honestly.. I feel like that doesn't change too much..
<Phay>
take those out
<Zach_S>
why?
<Zach_S>
they are all in use
<Phay>
generating less energy and potential heat
<Phay>
but if need be, keep them in
<Zach_S>
its jsut cables
<Zach_S>
not much else
<Phay>
like if a mouse and keyboard.. but if an external harddrive and usb drive, I'd remove those TEMP
<Phay>
none of this is permanent
<Phay>
just while mining
<apc>
have you cracked it open and blown out the heatsink?
<Phay>
how old is this laptop? what is the laptop :V
<Phay>
I feel like it's an alienware
<apc>
I have to clean mine every few months as it fills with cat goo
<Zach_S>
i have a keyboard, mouse, webcam, ethernet, audio cable, and power cable
<Zach_S>
so its a bitch to take out the battery because I'll have to unplug everything
<Phay>
well. imo.. I'd try just letting it run through the night
<Phay>
lower the cpu settings, take out the battery, flip it over, unplug everything
<lestus>
sup
<Phay>
Boom
<Phay>

<lestus>

<apc>
why would the battery matter?
<Phay>
battery creates a LOT of heat. They swell up on phones for a reason
<apc>
if it's fully charged it should only take a very infrequent topoff
<Phay>
nope.
<apc>
they swell up on phones because they are under constant heavy discharge and daily recharge
<Zach_S>
my laptop isnt dedicated for boinc
<Phay>
ever touch your laptop battery area or phone for that matter while charging or doing something?
<Zach_S>
neither is my desktop
<apc>
a laptop sitting there plugged in all the time isn't going to be charging very much
<Zach_S>
i just do it because i can
<apc>
my battery is cool
<Phay>
it won't be charging, but it's a chunk that retains heat easily
<Phay>
the more "air" the better
<Phay>
yeah Zach_S
<Phay>
fair enough. I'm just saying try it for a run if you want
<Phay>
nothing hardcore
<Zach_S>
right now what I keep thinking is I want another monitor for my laptop lol
<Phay>
:o
<Phay>
I need food. bbl. Best of luck if I don't see you.. but I'll be around if you need anything
<Zach_S>
i dont have enough screen real estate
<Zach_S>
i used to have a monitor plugged into my laptop
<Zach_S>
but i moved it to my desktop so I could have 3 monitors for my desktop
<Zach_S>
which still isnt enough...
<HeyMerlin>

i actually still tend to work on a single display, i just like to monitor things
<apc>
I'm in a 300sqft apartment. there can be only one :D

on my desktop one monitor is completely dedicated to IRC
<HeyMerlin>
I run 3 displays (1 on Windows, 1 on Mac, 1on Linux) with at least 4 virtual desktops on each and then use Synergy to use 1 keyboard/mouse across the three.
<HeyMerlin>
I definitely use all three constantly... and am regularly switching virtual desktops.
<Zach_S>
and the other side is dedicated mostly to Skype, Yahoo, and then things like Process Lasso and MSI Afterburner
<Zach_S>
but if I do work that would get a lot of use out of more than 1 monitor I will move things to the other monitors
<Zach_S>
but I like being able to see my IRC chat 24/7
