<nmz787> anyone have experience filling a diffusion pump with new oil, when you don't know how much oil to use?
<nmz787> also, how much of the black baked-on patina needs to come off (I read use stainless steel wool... or try soaking in solvent overnight)
<sync> I like to get them sequeaky clean
<nmz787> hmm, I worked on it for about 30-60 mins, then added 100mL new 705 oil, and reinstalled everything so I could at least pump everything back down to rough vacuum
<nmz787> was scared about dust accumulation (its in my home office) and water vapor coating everything
<sync> water vapor is on there instantly
<sync> no need to be extra quick
<pie_> vacuums suck
<nmz787> hmm
<nmz787> well then, I guess I'll be taking this apart again after I get the spare pump 100% clean. I still have ~373mL pump oil remaining for extra attempts
<nmz787> I was reading online another way is to hook it up to a vacuum gauge, and slowly add oil 20mL at a time, and stop adding when the pumping gets better, at some point it will then start to get worse
<nmz787> so I guess at that point you'd remove a bit
<SpeedEvil> Simply fill your office with dry nitrogen, avoid any problem with water vapour.
<nmz787> haha
