Bike has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
<

yeah, I watched his video yesterday I think
<
Noxz>
there wasnt too much chemistry wise, more so procedure
<
nmz787>
I learned AgCl + 405nm laser -> metallic Ag by getting an electron from CuO... which eventually reverses after some time
<
Noxz>
I looked into some phosphorescent stuff which was usually dopped with Cu particles, so that does make some sense
<
nmz787>
this book has some recipes and such including BOMs for making your own CRT with phosphorescent stuff and a flat bottom flask
<
Noxz>
I was looking at the phorescents actually from his SEM build
<
Noxz>
to have an easy initial visual clue that e- were getting to a target point
<
Noxz>
I think the 'standard' glow powder is zinc sulfide + Cu particles
<
Noxz>
I bought a small amount from TAP plastics cuz they had it, and I was doing some halloween stuff ;)
<
Noxz>
made glow slime
<
Noxz>
the glow eventually settled to the bottom though
<
Noxz>
he actually used phosphorescence as the reciever/amp part of his SEM
<
Noxz>
I plan on using MgO on nichrome mesh, layered, as secondary electron cascading
<
Noxz>
MgO from Mg(OMe)2 that upon heating methanol is released
<
Noxz>
or something like that, I'd need to lookup again
<
Noxz>
but yeah, going more with electron amplification vs e- to photon to photodetector
<
nmz787>
is that what the 'direct electron detectors' do (in the current-gen SEM/TEM market)?
<
nmz787>
halloween is a good excuse to play with phosphors! :)
<
Noxz>
they need to amplify it
<
Noxz>
Secondary Electron Emission
<
Noxz>
and I basically chose MgO because it is simple to make from Mg(OMe)2 (which is super simple to make)
<
Noxz>
heating Mg(OH)2 which it would become in air results back to MgO
<
Noxz>
and since I am thinking of a nichrome mesh, well, that is easy to heat
<
Noxz>
so, a relatively simple process to get it to MgO, imo
