<pie_> my curiosity is piqued, anyone know?

<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> Why is Taiwan so good at fabrication and stuff? i think they have other top of the line factories too for all sorts of things
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> Neither has worked in China
<pie_> <mefistofeles> [itchyjunk]: I guess the usual, cheap labour force and high tech
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> lobour is much cheaper in china
<pie_> <SpeedEvil> 'cheap labour force' - taiwan minimum wage is $5/hr
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> the skilled workforce needed to fab industry probably makes $ in par with usa i'd assume
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> the reason they stay in taiwan is obvious. there were gov policy to retain as much industries as possible.
<pie_> <SpeedEvil> I would suspect it's more or less comparable
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> but doesn't explain why they are so good at all this
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> china has been trying to steal IP from there and establish their own industry for 10 year or more
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> heck, USA's fab industry haven't managed to keep up with them. i wonder why they got so good at it :s
<pie_> <[itchyjunk]> HK and S Korea have some good industry too. but Taiwan is still quite a way ahead

<qu1j0t3> itchyjunk is confused
<qu1j0t3> the fabs go where the investment goes. the reason US fabs aren't dominant is that somebody decided to move that capital offshore.
<qu1j0t3> no other reason.
<qu1j0t3> US could have kept all its fabs and manufacturing. it chose otherwise.

<SpeedEvil> Todays fun thought.
<SpeedEvil> Differential power analysis and fault injection from compromised capacitors.
<pie_> SpeedEvil: isnt tat the usual?
<pie_> *that
