Unexpected EOF is usually an error that the client spits out when talking to the local daemon.

Likely the daemon died because it went OOM.

greg jeanmart: An ingress proxy would make several IPFS daemons appear behind one external IP, right? I think IPFS needs to know the public key of the node before connecting, so I doubt that's easily possible. (Anything against just exposing them normally, all with their own ip/port?

I'm just wondering, how would a games server work on IPFS? Like a minecraft server.
<bmwiedemann11>
JaoheahDiscord[m: the games assets (e.g. textures) would certainly be static files on IPFS that rarely change. There is also this function where TCP connections can be made through IPFS - that could be used for dynamic client-server exchange

ipfs p2p listen ...

maybe it is a bit like a tor hidden service, but without the anonymity (and latency) added

hello everyone i got some questions about ipfs, basically i was reading into the section on "Copyright Violations" on the faq part of github but am still confused on a few thing. say that someone uploads a file in the ipfs network, using a dmca can the file be deleted from the network?; that's my first question
<waterflow>
also who get's to make the decision if to delete the file?

would like to point out that from what i have read there suppose to a blacklist, so my question is can't the gov abuse the blacklist and add "copyright content to it" and therefore censoring so people are not able to view or download a document; also i know you can run your own node and ignore the blacklist but can't the node be traced back to me and therefore i can be personally be paid a visit and shutdown?
<ambackDiscord[m]>
please help me understand
<postablesDiscord>
it cant be deleted from the network
<postablesDiscord>
but people hosting the content can receive dmca take down notices and such
i9zO5AP has joined #ipfs
<ambackDiscord[m]>
the same way people can receive dmca take down notices can't they also receive any notice to take down "unwanted" content
<postablesDiscord>
sure
<postablesDiscord>
thats no different than the regular internet though
<ambackDiscord[m]>
so it ipfs can be censored?
<postablesDiscord>
ipfs itself no but the people using ipfs sure
hsn has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<ambackDiscord[m]>
i see + it would be harder since many people are hosting the node correct?, that's what is making it harder to cesorhip?
<postablesDiscord>
yes
<ambackDiscord[m]>
hmm, will it be possible to do a tor + ipfs
<ambackDiscord[m]>
so the node cannot be traced back to you?
<postablesDiscord>
sure, but its not quite as simple
<postablesDiscord>
`go-ipfs` is not designed for anonymity, and as such it leaks a ton of information that will very likely decloak your anonymity
<postablesDiscord>
additionally `go-ipfs` does internal DNS resolution which is a nono for tor
<postablesDiscord>
so unless you take the time to properly setup a torrified ipfs node its not anonymous
<ambackDiscord[m]>
so how safe is it for "let say" a whistleblower to upload a file to the ipfs network, does the network keep a log of the original uploader?
<postablesDiscord>
depends
<postablesDiscord>
if they connect to a pinning service, and do so while routign their traffic to tor and other things then its probably safe for them
<postablesDiscord>
* if they connect to a pinning service, and do so while routign their traffic to tor and other things then its probably safe for them but the pinning service will easily be identified
<postablesDiscord>
and if the pinning service keeps logs, and the whistleblower didn't properly hide their traffic they could be traced
KempfCreative has joined #ipfs
<postablesDiscord>
if the whistleblower hosts a node themselves and adds the file to hte network that way
<postablesDiscord>
* if the whistleblower hosts a node themselves and adds the file to hte network that way probably not safe in the least bit
<postablesDiscord>
unless that content is pinned by like thousands and thousands of nodes
<postablesDiscord>
* unless that content is pinned by like thousands and thousands of nodes and its too hard to identify individual uploaders
i9zO5AP has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<postablesDiscord>
but right now the DHT traffic is not private at all, a simple `ipfs log tail` will let you easily scrape peers, ip addresses, identities, etc...
<ambackDiscord[m]>
still ipfs is pretty amazing against concentration of power, that's like one of the main spotlight
<ambackDiscord[m]>
thanks for helping me undertand
<ambackDiscord[m]>
thank you; if i may i want to ask you another sort of related question. do you think in the future youtube can have a good competition or can even be beaten by an decentralized website, at the same time if that were to happen(youtube going down) lot's of the internet history would be lost lot's of videos are hosted on youtube. therefore having a backup of youtube in a decentralized network would be ideal but wouldn't
<ambackDiscord[m]>
that be accountable to dmcas takedown?, how do you see decentralized taking over the web and at the same time not lose a big history on the web?
nekatak[m] has left #ipfs ["User left"]
<postablesDiscord>
ther'es decentralized versinos of youtube like dtube and what not
<postablesDiscord>
but the problem is that individually, people unless proteccted by anonymity meausres, can be identified, and subsequently get dmca take down notices
<postablesDiscord>
the nice thing about decentralized networks is that it makes it easy to distribute the data to many people, and make it impossible to totally take down
