weird thought: if IPNS ever became like, a super reliable thing, what if it could just be pointed at regular HTTP sites, so people using regular web hosting, like some free webspace that came with their internet account, could sort of have a portable identifier a bit like a domain name that they could just kinda point at whatever if they need to change ISPs or anything

Phoenix IPNS, the protocol, should be able to support your use case. IPNS maps a public key to an arbitrary path, so if instead of the value of an IPNS record being /IPNS/Qmabc or /IPFS/Qmxyz it was an http multiaddress it should be doable.

I'm not sure what the status is of http nultiaddress support is in the IPFS binaries or IPFS companion but that's where I'd look for more information or filling an enhancement issue

jake: I think that's the opposite of what Phoenix (Discord) intended. The DNS TXT record maps foo.com to a path like /ipfs/QmFoo, /ipns/QmBar, or /ipns/someotherdnslink.com, what was asked for (if I understood correctly) was a map from /ipns/QmBar to something like /http/mywebsite.com. Then people could go resolve /ipns/QmBar and get the website even if it was moved to /http/mywebsite2.com
