Is it true that I won't be able to get a file before it's hash is announced to DHT?
<slemonide>
Like say this file is in a directory whose hash is announced.
<slemonide>
Then I can just request `ipfs/<directiry_hash>/<file_whose_hash_was_not_announced>`.

<swedneck1 "have you looked at https://docs."> thinking of installing lotus and maybe mine FIL IPFS is the place to store off-parachain large data sources.. typically referenced by smart contracts ie embedded ipfs hashes stored in a mapping.

I've installed two nodes on two different computers, and I've tried sending files from one to the other. I've noticed two things:
<DavidPrieto[m]>
1. File transfer is rather slow - around half a megabyte per second. I get much higher transfer rates through http
<DavidPrieto[m]>
2. It has killed my router a few times, and forced me to restart it. I guess that's because of too many connections?
<DavidPrieto[m]>
Are these problems usual? Is there any way to fix them?
<swedneck1>
are you using an ISP-provided router?

<DavidPrieto[m]>
<swedneck1 "are you using an ISP-provided ro"> I am, yes
<swedneck1>
that's probably why, ISP-provided routers are usually as cheap as possible, good enough for multiplayer games or watching 4k video, but not things like IPFS
<jessicara>
is it version 0.7? on 0.6 this seemed to be an issue here but on 0.7 it hasn't so far
<jessicara>
there's also highwater and lowwater options to reduce/increase the amount of connections it tries to maintain
<DavidPrieto[m]>
<swedneck1 "that's probably why, ISP-provide"> So there's no way to use ipfs unless I change my router?
<DavidPrieto[m]>
<jessicara "is it version 0.7? on 0.6 this s"> Yes, it's 0.7
<jessicara>
possibly if reduce the number of connections it tries to maintain
<jessicara>
unfortunately there is no control over incoming connections possible on the internet though
<DavidPrieto[m]>
<jessicara "there's also highwater and lowwa"> Those seem like they could help. How can I see them?
<jessicara>
they are in ~/.ipfs/config
<DavidPrieto[m]>
* Those seem like they could help. How can I set them?
<jessicara>
under swarm and then connmgr
p-core has joined #ipfs
<jessicara>
another possibility is dmz, depending on how the router implements it
<jessicara>
many routers actually track state of connections intended for dmz, for some reason
<jessicara>
so run out of memory too
