in case chrisseaton gets around its just 3 I think: java., javax. and org.
<kares>
headius: hey, did look and have some toJava conversions + Java API planned for Time/Date/DateTime planned
<kares>
beyond that I am not sure - we need joda since its part of the API e.g. AR-JDBC relies on it heavily
<kares>
+ I think there might be surprises - since there's work-arounds in Date impl - not sure if Java's types will behave as good for the internals as JODA's DateTime does
<kares>
also it seemed to me like most users would want seamless Java Integration and maybe an API on RubyTime (similar to those in Java 8) so I decided its not worth that much.
<kares>
what would be your motivation?

kares: mostly just trying to move toward eliminating the joda dependency, but even after we switch internally we'd still need to ship it for a while, e.g. for AR as you mentioned

headius: maybe poke around the internets/github a bit ... thought I see it used elsewhere as well
<kares>
think it was RubyTime#getDateTime or smt similar being used in an ext

(outside of AR-JDBC)

guess it depends whether joda is dead or not ... seemed to not be the case, although little activity

kares: yeah joda won't be dead for some time, and we have it in parts of our "public" API, so I figured we'd still have to ship it until 9.3 or something
<headius>
I figured the sooner we start to migrate off it the better though

that was my original thinking as well but than wasn't sure on this later as I looked into ...
