I've seen some people use kmscube with "-D /dev/dri/card1" argument but I do not how to create a card1 device. is it a must?

I get card0, card1 and render128 there. one card is linked to the lima GPU and the other to the Amlogic VPU (display hardware)

I was kind of suspecting this too. I feel like there's something missing in my dts about display units, panels. I could not find a working example to compare.

for example on my Odroid-C1+ (Amlogic based) I also have card0 and renderD128 link to the lima GPU. then I also have: "platform-d0100000.vpu-card -> ../card1" (VPU is the Amlogic display interface IP)

Allwinner VPU would probably be under a different tree named Cedrus, I assume but I will look for it

I think cedrus is something different. my understanding is that cedrus is a video decoder

which recommends probing lima after sun4i_drm. I've also tried this but failed.

on Amlogic the probe order of the lima and VPU driver results in swapped /dev/dri/card{0,1} names. but regardless of the probe order: you should be getting two /dev/dri/cardN entries, while you're only getting one right now

yes. I've tried it again. probing lima creates a card entry but probing sun4i_drm won't create one.
