<steev>
jcbjoe: i do on the original chromebook (both samsung and hp)
<steev>
and i mean, chromeos is linux so... perhaps a bit more specific?
<jcbjoe>
steev: hi .. yea like gentoo or slackware on your chromebook
<jcbjoe>
how many hours do you get with it ?
<steev>
depends on use, around 12 or so
<steev>
i mostly stick to cli though
<jcbjoe>
me to
<jcbjoe>
steev: what distor you on ?
<jcbjoe>
distro*
<steev>
gentoo
<jcbjoe>
aw
<jcbjoe>
steev: so you get 12 hours on gentoo nice
<steev>
well, i mean, i'm a gentoo dev, so, you know, it kinda makes sense that i'd use gentoo
<jcbjoe>
hehe
<jcbjoe>
your not in #gentoo steev ? i #gentoo for n00bs like me ?
<jcbjoe>
is*
<jcbjoe>
i have gentoo on another vmware i love it .. im testing other distors right now to see what im going to put on my laptop
<steev>
no, i avoid that cesspool of questions that can be found via a simple search of the internet
<jcbjoe>
yea
<jcbjoe>
or
<prometheanfire>
ya, I don't go into #gentoo either :P
<steev>
prometheanfire: to be fair, you don't go a lot of places
* prometheanfire
waits for rc2
<jcbjoe>
site:wiki.gentoo.org <keyword> site:gentoo.org <keyword> google inurl:gentoo <keyword>
<prometheanfire>
more then you think
<jcbjoe>
steev: its good for new comers #gentoo
<steev>
prometheanfire: fine, never with me anymore :(
<jcbjoe>
steev: is there a gentoo channel that has no questions like #gentoo
<jcbjoe>
i really like gentoo a lot
<steev>
nope, there are terrible questions in every channel really
<jcbjoe>
dam
<steev>
i just hang out in the channels that i actually care about
<prometheanfire>
steev: oh, you mean physically, well I've been worn out
<prometheanfire>
recovering
<steev>
prometheanfire: did uh.... what's her face come back
<jcbjoe>
steev: true / steve what do you dev for gentoo ?
<prometheanfire>
steev: who?
<jcbjoe>
or is that a g14 classifed topic
<steev>
jcbjoe: not much, random stuff here and there, but i'm the arm team co-lead
<jcbjoe>
nice
<steev>
and i build the stageballs used for arm
* jcbjoe
starts looking at chrome books
<steev>
prometheanfire: stephanie?
<steev>
shannon?
<jcbjoe>
steev: it must be nice knowing what your doing . i just try to get the system up .. after that i just google everything to make sure everything works
<steev>
WHY CAN I NEVER REMMEBER NAMES
<jcbjoe>
steev: cause you compile stuff to much
<steev>
jcbjoe: with experience comes knowledge
<steev>
the more you utilize it, the more you learn, so you keep remembering that stuff cuz you keep running into it. it also helped that i worked at Genesi for a few years
<prometheanfire>
steev: one of those is my girlfriend, one of those is someone else's fiance
<steev>
prometheanfire: ah, well the one that is your girlfriend, i would hope someone else's fiance is not wearing you out
<steev>
and i know which is which now
<prometheanfire>
I did go visit her a few weeks ago
<steev>
yar, whilst i was in vegas
<prometheanfire>
2 now
<prometheanfire>
ja
<steev>
i had less fun :(
<jcbjoe>
steev: do you mind giving me a ruff guess on the chromebook name / proccessor .. im on the google chrome website .. i get paid in a couple of days and getting a laptop
<prometheanfire>
just catching up
<steev>
jcbjoe: uh, well, it's the older samsung 11"
<steev>
if you want 11", then you should probably wait for the new one to come out
<jcbjoe>
heh
<steev>
otherwise the 13" from samsung is quite nice
<jcbjoe>
11 inch i can't
<jcbjoe>
i need 15
<jcbjoe>
o_O
* prometheanfire
is waiting for 64bit arm now
<jcbjoe>
or 17
<prometheanfire>
that's kinda big
<steev>
uh
<jcbjoe>
yea lol i like laptops with big screens
<steev>
13" with 1080p
<steev>
is fine
<jcbjoe>
nice
<steev>
well enjoy your shit battery life at 17"
<jcbjoe>
yea
<jcbjoe>
cuase it needs more resources to support the big as screen
<prometheanfire>
broadwell E7450 or E7550
<prometheanfire>
since noone makes quality arm laptops
<steev>
there's no market for it
<prometheanfire>
ya
<steev>
i mean there's the novena, but i wouldn't exactly call it a laptop at the 2k price (although they do), which, one of the biggest selling points requires software to be run on a different computer
<prometheanfire>
lololol
<jcbjoe>
steev: do you have a lot of workspaces .. im trying to see how im going to set this up .. i like having browser and weechat on the same window
<jcbjoe>
wow you said 2d works ok if you get it working
<jcbjoe>
Wizzup, youtube everything is good o it or do you switch to chomebook for that
<jcbjoe>
it almost seems that you can gentoo in there use it daily but switch to chromebook for daily stuff or whatever
<Wizzup>
no, I don't have chromeos on it
<jcbjoe>
oh
<jcbjoe>
pure gentoo
<Wizzup>
the only thing I cannot do when watching videos up/down scaling
<Wizzup>
you can watch 1080p, as long you don't scale it. for example, upscaling 720p to 1080p doesn't work well, but just watch it at 720p
<Wizzup>
but still
<Wizzup>
I wouldn't the support great ;-)
<Wizzup>
alt. if you don't care too much, you can run a chroot next to chromeos
<Wizzup>
s/next to/in/
<Wizzup>
but that's not what this channel is for ;D
<jcbjoe>
i see what you mean
<jcbjoe>
so if its 108p
<jcbjoe>
err
<jcbjoe>
1080p keep it at 1080p
<Wizzup>
yes
<jcbjoe>
Wizzup, if i got it and needed help who would hlep me .. you and steev kinda talk in here
<jcbjoe>
but not really
<jcbjoe>
lol
<Wizzup>
but yeah, generally driver support is not like what you're used to if you're from intel
<Wizzup>
yeah, I'm not really feeling like extensive help with certain steps already documented, but feedback on the wiki is good
<Wizzup>
I mostly don't have too much spare time:)
<steev>
it's documented for a reason
<steev>
if you can't follow some simple steps, it's probably not for you
<Wizzup>
[relatively simple] ;-)
<steev>
Wizzup: considering you can copy and paste.... i mean, if you can't copy and paste, one should probably just pack up every computer in the house and return them
<Wizzup>
hehe
<jcbjoe>
lol
<jcbjoe>
im reading it as we speak
si1v3r has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
si1v3r has joined #linux-exynos
<steev>
Wizzup: btw, minor nit, there's no point in running "make uImage dtbs modules" if the uImage will not be used, i think you meant "make zImage dtbs modules" - granted, uImage will built the zImage target first, but still
<Wizzup>
yes, I believe I did that wrong for some time, and then javier__ told me
<Wizzup>
I used to think uImage was the 'raw' image
<Wizzup>
u for uncompressed, or something silly.
<Wizzup>
only later I found out it meant u-boot
jcbjoe has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<si1v3r>
I've been using the umage made from make uimage. Works fine.
<si1v3r>
I just run: LOADADDR=0x40008000 make uImage, then copy /arch/arm/boot/uImage to /boot/vmlinux.uimg
<Wizzup>
:)

<steev>
si1v3r: sure, not saying you can't do that, but without passing a loadaddr, make uImage fails, and these are instructions for people who don't know better
<steev>
not to mention, it doesn't jive with what the rest of the instructions state. just heading for correctness, not "well this works for 1 other person"
