<Ke> has anyone been working on getting something like grub working on chromebooks
<Ke> eg. coreboot - u-boot - grub-efi
<Ke> I guess there you would at least need to get the display driver for grub or something
<Ke> would be awesome to be able to edit eg. boot options for recovery, right now I have initrd asking, whether I want to resume boot or recover
<Ke> which is only one extra enter press during boot, but still
<Ke> I guess the second part could be updating Kevin fw for spectre
<Ke> and meltdown, I guess
<Esmil> Ke: Someone from fedora or suse did some work on getting uboot to support EFI booting, so you can use something like systemd-boot or grub in EFI mode
<Ke> yeah that much I know, but I think I still need the graphics support to get interactivity?=
<Ke> or does u-boot support some EFI framebuffer

<Ke> paulk-gagarine-s: https://git.code.paulk.fr/ https://git.paulk.fr/ seem to be forbidden for me
<Ke> paulk-gagarine-s: just curious, whether you published your Kevin work somewhere already?
<maz> Ke: I use kexec and grub-emu plus a couple of patches. no need to reinvent the wheel...
<Ke> that could work indeed
<maz> Ke: not that it could. it does.
<maz> Ke: of course, you find all kind of bugs in the kernel by doing so, which makes it really fun... ;-)
<Ke> what sort of patches?
<maz> Ke: patches for grub-emu so that it knows how to use kexec as a backend.
<Ke> there is also petitboot or something that does a similar thing
<maz> Ke: indeed. but Debian uses grub by default, so sticking to it makes sense for me.
<maz> Ke: the alternative would be to have a userspace EFI runtime and directly run grub-efi from there, but that's a bit more ambitious.
<Ke> but debian has no kernel for Kevin anyway
<Ke> though it could have in future
<maz> Ke: that's just a matter of asking the Debian kernel maintainer to enable the right options.
<Ke> yes, eventually
<Ke> that took a lot of time at least for C201
<Ke> not even sure, whether it has been fixed even now
<Ke> and it's not like the file would not have been filed ages ago
<Ke> unless you have contacts, you can't really just request such things sadly
<maz> Ke: opening a request on the Debian bug tracker is pretty easy, and anyone can do it.
<Ke> yes and did not work for C201
<Ke> perhaps pull request might have worked better though
<maz> Ke: don't compare 32bit and 64bit. distributions can't help you there. 64bit has a much better model.
<Ke> yeah, EFI helps alot there
<Ke> but it's not like I could not have scripted the booting of generic debian kernel instead of compiling my own
<Ke> either way fully functional userland is still nice thing to have

<eballetbo> mmind00: do you think that makes sense merge these series (https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2017-November/158930.html) with my patchset to get rid of the DT register proprieties? The first patchset seems a bit stuck, so I'm wondering if this can be useful to revive it.
<eballetbo> And at the end needs some mods as we also need to get rid of uphy sel register ...
<mmind00> eballetbo: from the cover-letter this makes sense ... but the series is from february 2017, so should be resent, as it's very much possible relevant people don't have it in their inbox anymore
<mmind00> eballetbo: and I would definitly support moving the type-c grf values out of the dts, as Rob suggested
<mmind00> eballetbo: actually the typec phy driver did pass by me somewhat unnoticed, because normally I always try to make sure grf-related stuff does not end up in devicetree bindings, as it's way to volatile ;-)

<Esmil> maz: I finally got around to testing your patches. With the "drm/rockchip: Set IRQ_NOAUTOEN flag before requesting the interrupt" unfortunately I'm getting this splat: http://ix.io/K8V
<Esmil> This is on top of the long drm rockchip patch set Thierry Escande sent. Don't know if that interferes with your patch
