<MoeIcenowy> how can I renamve a page on linux-sunxi.org?
<MoeIcenowy> http://linux-sunxi.org/ViewSonic_133Q should be "ViewSonic ViewPad 133Q" .
<MoeIcenowy> (Oh I forgot to upload the photos again and again
<dr1337__> hey guys
<dr1337__> does anyone know how to get mainline kernel running on an astar board?

<dr1337__> MoeIcenowy: R16
<dr1337__> Which I believe to be similar to A33
<MoeIcenowy> what board?
<MoeIcenowy> R16 is REALLY similar to A33. See sun8i-r16-parrot.dts
<MoeIcenowy> or I should say not only SIMILAR but also SAME

<dr1337_> MoeIcenowy - Yeah I looked at the specs side by side and couldn't tell the diff
petr has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<dr1337_> Do you know if A33 is supported on the mainline?
<MoeIcenowy> yes
<MoeIcenowy> I have several A33 tablets.
<MoeIcenowy> One Q8, and another iNet D978 Rev02
<MoeIcenowy> both are supported in 4.9 well
<MoeIcenowy> dr1337_: what's your board? where do you get it?
<dr1337_> MoeIcenowy: cityBrand
<dr1337_> I got a code dump for TinaOS
<dr1337_> need to use a more recent kernel as am planning on using Ubuntu Snappy Core which isn't supported on 3.4
<dr1337_> the lunch config in the SDK is astar-parrot-tina
<MoeIcenowy> You got the source of TinaOS?!
<MoeIcenowy> is your board just parrot?
<MoeIcenowy> You can try mainline kernel with sun8i-r16-parrot.dtb
<dr1337_> Yeah
<MoeIcenowy> Parrot is supported well now.
<plaes> dr1337_: you should start with "New Device Howto"
<dr1337_> Thanks!
<dr1337_> Oh btw - Tina Linux source is available here - https://github.com/tinalinux
petr has joined #linux-sunxi
<MoeIcenowy> along with r16 BSP... but I think no one will care it as R16 is just A33
<MoeIcenowy> dr1337_: can you post your board's picture somewhere?
<MoeIcenowy> (img.vim-cn.com is a choice)
<dr1337_> MoeIcenowy: not sure if I can, we're under NDA
<MoeIcenowy> ah-oh...
<plaes> o_O
<plaes> we can't help you then :D
<MoeIcenowy> but... is your board just parrot?
<dr1337_> what is a parrot (apart from the bird)?
<MoeIcenowy> I mean the board called parrot...
<dr1337_> no
<dr1337_> well there's no pcb silkscreen mark that say parrot
<dr1337_> but that's the lunch menu item
<MoeIcenowy> or it may be called "Allwinner R16 EVB (Parrot)"
<dr1337_> actually
<dr1337_> it does say parrot
<MoeIcenowy> so you can just try it!
<dr1337_> my bad
dr1337 has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<dr1337_> sweet
<dr1337_> MoeIcenowy: thanks for your help! will try it now
<dr1337_> btw has anyone gotten snappy core to run on these things?
<MoeIcenowy> dr1337_: Nope
<MoeIcenowy> my devices are usually tablets...
<MoeIcenowy> and... can you just advice Allwinner to use mainline kernel in Tina?
<MoeIcenowy> The Allwinner 3.4 BSP is full of bugs :-(
<dr1337_> I wish Allwinner would use mainline kernel
<dr1337_> Would save me the hassle of digging around
<MoeIcenowy> but they care nothing
<dr1337_> so this patch....that applies to mainline kernel right?
<MoeIcenowy> dr1337_: not patch required now.
<dr1337_> and if you guys are using mainline then what are the issues?
<MoeIcenowy> Just get a 4.8.1
<MoeIcenowy> and rock-n-roll
<MoeIcenowy> It has been merged
<dr1337_> What about this? - https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9197239/
<dr1337_> ah let me check mainline

<MoeIcenowy> You cannot use MicroSD when using UART at PFx
<MoeIcenowy> but can MicroSD be used after booting Tina with eMMC?
<dr1337_> nope
<dr1337_> MicroSD isn't working with Tina
<MoeIcenowy> So beautiful the decorative MicroSD slot is :-)
<MoeIcenowy> It seems that this is the point
<MoeIcenowy> the UART pads are wired to PF2, PF4, not PB0, PB1
<dr1337_> well boot0 is doing something to start loading the microsd

<MoeIcenowy> you'd better wait till tomorrow and ask the hardware engineer where is PB0/PB1.

<MoeIcenowy> at least in mainline, inet d978_rev2 and parrot do so

<qschulz_> plaes: however, if you want iio_hwmon to work, you'll need to patch the kernel with another of my patches
<plaes> cool, thx
<MoeIcenowy> Interesting... Some tina commits are "Signed-Off-By: Heweihong <357710565@qq.com>"
<MoeIcenowy> This guy leaked his QQ (an IM in China) Number :-)
<KotCzarny> guy is so poor he cant even buys himself email account? :>
<KotCzarny> *buy
<MoeIcenowy> many Chinese people get used to use QQ Emails
<MoeIcenowy> so they need no extra registration
<MoeIcenowy> (My QQ Email is only used as the identity verification email of my outlook.com email)
<MoeIcenowy> If parrot cannot be released in the next month, I will buy a SinA33 and try to run Tina on it
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: better write Tsvetan an email an ask for a free sample of https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/A33/A33-OLinuXino-4GB/open-source-hardware
<MoeIcenowy> Oh, A33-OLinuXino have only holes for GPIO...
<MoeIcenowy> Several days ago I had had a project that re-port AOSP to Allwinner Tablets, which means an AOSP port with mainline kernel
<MoeIcenowy> and it seems that A33 OLinuXino come with NAND rather than eMMC...
<MoeIcenowy> maybe it will be better to get the memory-less model and ask my friend for help to solder a tSD on it
<wens> MoeIcenowy: back then the board was in stock, but was too expensive to try to order :p
<MoeIcenowy> wens: it was in stock?
<wens> MoeIcenowy: yes

<MoeIcenowy> wens: do you have different link?
<wens> MoeIcenowy: it _was_ when I found it 2 months ago
<MoeIcenowy> was...
<MoeIcenowy> so you mean it's not available now...
<MoeIcenowy> (If we can go back in time...
<MoeIcenowy> wens: are you working on A31s audio codec?
<MoeIcenowy> and do you have a SinA33 or A33-OLinuXino?
<MoeIcenowy> maybe we can run Tina on a A33 board before parrot is released
<MoeIcenowy> It's a very full set of Chinese documents
<MoeIcenowy> more than ones I got in SinA33 CD
<wens> MoeIcenowy: i will work on A31s codec
<wens> MoeIcenowy: and I have SinA33
<wens> MoeIcenowy: i can't find parrot board now
<MoeIcenowy> wens: I can't either
<MoeIcenowy> but can you try to build a Tina with SinA33's script.fex?
Mr__Anderson has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<MoeIcenowy> (or maybe it should be called sys_config.fex
<MoeIcenowy> (If we can do so, we won't need parrots
<wens> wow, new versions of the datasheet
<wens> i haven't done allwinner bsps
<MoeIcenowy> I got the link by google "Allwinner tSD"

<MoeIcenowy> wens: the datasheet is newer than allwinner-zh/documents?
<MoeIcenowy> Interesting!
<MoeIcenowy> oh really!
<MoeIcenowy> should we change the link in Documentation/arm/sunxi.txt?
<wens> MoeIcenowy: probably upload to linux-sunxi first
<wens> MoeIcenowy: maybe file a n issue with allwinner-zh/documents as well
<MoeIcenowy> who have ftp to dl.linux-sunxi.org?
<wens> just upload to the wiki
<mripard_> MoeIcenowy: R16 is definitely an A33
<mripard_> MoeIcenowy: and if you want to port AOSP on top of mainline, you should probably have a look at linaro's work on the Hikey
<MoeIcenowy> mripard_: thanks~
<mripard_> they basically did just that
<mripard_> and it's merged in AOSP upstream now
<MoeIcenowy> If R16 is just a remark of A33, we won't expect parrot any more, as we have open-source choice

<miasma> it was around 920-970 mW
tlwoerner_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<miasma> tkaiser: the accuracy is only 0.75%
<tkaiser> miasma: ok, mainline kernel, then numbers fit :)
<miasma> 125 ksamples/s
<miasma> is it better with some other kernel?
<tkaiser> Otherwise I would start to argue about maybe 250 mW! ;)
<tkaiser> miasma: BSP kernel shows higher consumption maybe since more stuff is enabled there.
<miasma> ah ok. i'll need to see if I can decrease it a bit. this is for my car. would be nice if it didn't use that much
<miasma> it's -30°C during winter so it might lower the chance of breaking if it doesn't get too hot too fast
tlwoerner__ has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<tkaiser> miasma: On BSP kernel you save ~200 mW by disabling HDMI, also decreasing DRAM clockspeeds helps (depends on the device, the most savings you get on NanoPi NEO)
<miasma> right. the neo has less ram chips too
<miasma> i had to pick opi pc since it has enough usb ports
<miasma> maybe the plus model would have been even better but i forgot about it
<tkaiser> miasma: The Plus sucks ;)
<miasma> maybe i get better reception with a wifi usb dongle and a huge 2.4 GHz antenna
<tkaiser> miasma: The new Orange Pis with 8189FTV have a pretty good reception even with small Xunlong default antenna. I have here +50 networks in 2.4GHz band and OPi Lite and Plus 2E show me ~30
<miasma> nice. I think I need one that works as a good AP
tlwoerner__ has joined #linux-sunxi
<miasma> tkaiser: btw, i had a question about the usb ports on allwinner sbcs. some of them have external hubs, but if not, does it mean that each usb port is kind of directly connected to the SoC and they show up as root hubs
pg12 has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<miasma> or do they use some other bus that connects to multiple external hubs
tlwoerner_ has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<tkaiser> miasma: Can only talk about H3 and A20 and there you can saturate each interface individually and total bandwidth increases to the max when used in parallel.
gianMOD has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser> miasma: But that's neither true for Opi Plus or Plus 2, they use an internal hub. I'm not aware that A20 devices are around with an USB hub on-board.
<miasma> so the internal hub provides max usb bandwidth for each usb port simultaneously?
pg12 has joined #linux-sunxi
<miasma> that is, on H3 you get 3x480Mbps from 3 usb ports?
<tkaiser> miasma: Huh? No, total bandwidth is limited. I don't know how it's done on the Plus. The SoC has 3 real USB host ports, the board has one USB-SATA bridge using one port and how the remaining 4 USB receptacles are connected I don't know (maybe they share all the bandwidth of just one host port, maybe one receptacle is directly connected and only 3 have to share bandwidth)
<tkaiser> miasma: On boards that expose all USB host ports directly: yes. And the OTG port isn't that bad either when used in host mode (just a few MB/s less)
<miasma> for instance on RPi there's an external hub and everything connected to that shares the bus bandwidth
paulk-collins has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<tkaiser> miasma: RPi is a bandwidth joke, all the SoCs have only one single USB2 OTG port connected to the outside. RPi is worst case and then comes Banana Pi M3
<miasma> ok, so basically the SoC could provide 3x480 Mbps if there are 3 data lines, but probably doesn't
tlwoerner__ has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
iamfrankenstein has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<tkaiser> miasma: On H3 with mainline kernel you get full bandwidth. But that's not 480 Mbps since USB2 sucks :)
<miasma> well yes :)
<miasma> the internal hub just made me think that the max for 3 ports can't be higher than 480 Mbps in total. a bit similar situation with x86 PCs. some ports are connected to the same usb root hub so you can't get 2x480 from two random usb2 ports, maybe only 2x240 Mbps (in theory)
<miasma> the show up under different parent nodes in lsusb -t
<miasma> or the same if they're sharing bw
<tkaiser> miasma: Nope, with OPi PC (or Plus 2E or NanoPi M1 or pcDuino4 Nano) you have 3 real USB2 host ports available. Same will be true with Xunlong's new H5 boards :)
