hi, just started getting familiar with mirageos going tru the tutorial and all that - the experience has been good so far
<mrgrieves>
however I wanted to ask - where can I find the most complete implementation of a DNS server for testing purposes?
<hannes>
mrgrieves: what do you mean with "most complete"? the mirage-skeleton repository contains an application/dns which reads its zone file from text, and serves it via udp
<hannes>
mrgrieves: I run https://github.com/hannesm/ns.nqsb.io for ns.nqsb.io and sn.nqsb.io -- this is without a zone file, but direct hardcoded data
<hannes>
(and I just finished some changes to get nsupdate support, etc.)
<hannes>
they're atm all only doing udp, and no dnssec
<mrgrieves>
hannes: thanks, yes the one from mirage-skeleton runs ok I just wanted to check if there were other efforts going on regarding running a DNS server as unikernel
<hannes>
mrgrieves: I run the above mentioned ns.nqsb.io as a unikernel :)
<hannes>
mrgrieves: and I currently rewrite some code to get more features (+tcp +dnssec +nsupdate) :)

<hannes>
mrgrieves: so the question is: what features do you need? the one in applications/dns is pretty ok afaict

<mrgrieves>
perfect! going to have a look and take it out for a spin. With regards to the features I don't need anything special
<hannes>
mrgrieves: :)
<mrgrieves>
currently working on a uni project looking at the status of the unikernel ecosystem and how easy it is to run unikernels in public cloud platforms
<hannes>
oh, I'm of little help here... I run my unikernels on a dedicated physical machine (using https://hannes.nqsb.io/Poss/VMM in the dom0 to manage my unikernels)
<mrgrieves>
yes I saw your post a few weeks ago
<mrgrieves>
haven't had the chance to try it out
<mrgrieves>
life + uni is taking pretty much all my time :(
<hannes>
mrgrieves: no worries. there seem to be people who're running MirageOS on both ec2 (with xen I suspect, there are some shell scripts around iirc) and GCE (using virtio or kvm backend via solo5)... feel invited to ask on mirageos-devel mailing list for pointers how to do so
<mrgrieves>
Thank you hannes !
<hannes>
