<Openbot>
infobot :(
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, happens every now and then. I hope Tim will give it a hard reset eventually
<Openbot>
lets all disconnect from irc for 2 minutes
<DocScrutinizer05>
sorry?
<Openbot>
in mourn
<Openbot>
:p
<Openbot>
anyway a lil problem here
<Openbot>
n900 acting strange
<Openbot>
when charger connected the metel rim gives shocks
<Openbot>
been same on al my n900s
<Openbot>
why
<Openbot>
also there is humming noise in earphones when charger connected
<Openbot>
whats wrong
<Openbot>
docscrutinizer05 ^
<DocScrutinizer05>
get a decent charger!!! URGENTLY
<DocScrutinizer05>
your charger is dangerously defect
<Openbot>
ya my charger is cheap and 800mah too
<DocScrutinizer05>
and connects mains voltage to output
<DocScrutinizer05>
:-O
<Openbot>
explain pls
<Openbot>
how to know a charger is good oe bad
<DocScrutinizer05>
when you get electric shock from M900 then that means the charger feeds HIGH voltage to USB ground
<Openbot>
aha
<Openbot>
that should not happen
<DocScrutinizer05>
no, absolutely not
<Openbot>
i know lil but i know gnd is gnd
<DocScrutinizer05>
with the right earphones, you have an almost perfect electrocution device
<Openbot>
my earphones got a metel rim too hope its not connected :p
<DocScrutinizer05>
destroy and discard that USB charger, get a good one! please!
<Openbot>
i saw what happend when i foolishly was desoldering rx tx gnd lines on a china phone board while connected to box
<Openbot>
okay
<Openbot>
thanx too
<Openbot>
now i double check before de soldering anything
<Openbot>
btw how to know charger would be good
<DocScrutinizer05>
touch the metal of USB jack
<Openbot>
the one i ll get now
<DocScrutinizer05>
or get a known good brand
<Openbot>
humm i ll lick the rim to check then
<Openbot>
1a or more as i ofen get device using more power then ........
<DocScrutinizer05>
I strongly recommend to rather use voltmeter or worst case RIGHT hand finger
<Openbot>
right hand finger ?
<wpwrak>
less close to the main pump :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
do NOT lick the USB jack rim
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes
<Openbot>
wpwrak? ?
<DocScrutinizer05>
hmm?
<wpwrak>
Openbot: if significant current passes that way, contact could electrocute you
<Openbot>
you mean liking is bad i should use finger
<wpwrak>
Openbot: and especially if your heart is between the point of contact and ground
<DocScrutinizer05>
RIGHT hand
<Openbot>
aha never considerd that as until now i used my tounge to check low voltage stuff
<wpwrak>
that said, power supplies that "feel bad" are often safe for humans. but they can still kill electronics. but then, better not to take unnecessary risks.

<Openbot>
ok man
<Openbot>
i never thought that
<wpwrak>
the most common problem is that the power supply lets a bit of current through, usually due to sloppy design. and usually not enough to harm a person. but then there are some that are badly broken and that let plenty of current through. i.e., they can kill people.
<wpwrak>
chances are that yours is "safe" for you (though you can't really tell, and it may change, depending on what causes the presence of high voltage - i.e., it could be a developing problem, or something that stays constant over time). but i would worry very much about your n900.
<wpwrak>
so by the time you determine that it may electrocute your n900, you don't really need to probe any further :)
<Openbot>
wpwrak why worry on my n900:(?
<Openbot>
i got only one in top condition
<Openbot>
its shiny too
<Openbot>
lat me walk a couple of meters
<wpwrak>
your body is likely to resist considerably stronger electrical abuse than the delicate electronics of your n900 :)
<Openbot>
and i smashed the goddamm charger on the floor
<wpwrak>
good. don't forget to put it in the trash. and maybe make sure nobody fishes it out, thinking it may still work :)
<Openbot>
it didnt break properly so i am taking it outside to smash the ramains with a rock
<wpwrak>
excellent. that should do it.
<Openbot>
hehe
<DocScrutinizer05>
afk, customs fun II
<Openbot>
btw nobody of you explained why right hand
<wpwrak>
party time ! :)
mvaenskae has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<wpwrak>
Openbot: i did :) charger -> right hand -> lungs -> feet -> ground vs. charger -> left hand -> heart -> feet -> ground
<Openbot>
lol i need to shell out some money on a decent charger on my extremly tight buget now :(
<wpwrak>
of course, if your holding a grounded wire in your left hand while probing something with your right hand, then that doesn't work ...
<wpwrak>
so the general rule is that, when dealing with potentially dangerous voltages, one hand stays in your pocket

[2015-04-29 Wed 08:56:45] <TimRiker> not sure what was up with the bot. connection was up, ssh working for me, but the bot was in limbo. HUP and it's coming back on.
