<wpwrak> freemangordon: quick question: how many people would you say are roughly "regular contributors" to fremantle, for technical stuff ? (kernel, user space, distribution, etc., not counting, say, tmo admins or such)

<freemangordon> wpwrak: 3-5, including me
<DocScrutinizer05> well, as long as user space doesn't include the apps
<freemangordon> sure, but userspace is not fremantle-specific, usually
<DocScrutinizer05> yep
<DocScrutinizer05> actually the question is "what is the question?" ;-)
<freemangordon> :)
opa-ben has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<DocScrutinizer05> fremantle is "mature" so not that many contributors needed
<freemangordon> well, not exactly, if we want it to evolve
<DocScrutinizer05> sure, but that's not a mandatory requirement for e.g. Neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> it's a desirable goal for fremantle at large
<freemangordon> I am not sure, as it will require an updated kernel
<freemangordon> neo900 that is
<DocScrutinizer05> why?
<freemangordon> because of the soc
<DocScrutinizer05> the soc is, well, 100% compatible
<freemangordon> well, not really, for example DVFS won't work as it should, iirc 2630 supports only 3 frequencies
<freemangordon> *3630
<DocScrutinizer05> umm
<DocScrutinizer05> it's sort of a pity that I don't have a N9 anymore
* freemangordon is checking in the TRM
rjeffries has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<DocScrutinizer05> wait, I got a N950
<DocScrutinizer05> however even that has a "proprietary Nokia kernel"
<DocScrutinizer05> not really a proof if the SoC can handle the clock frequencies as a 3430
<freemangordon> it can, but there are no OPPs defined
<DocScrutinizer05> hmm yeah, they are probably scaled up according to the 1GHz max frequency
<DocScrutinizer05> all OMAPs have only 5 OPPs iirc
<freemangordon> DocScrutinizer05: 4 OPPs - 300, 600, 800, 1000
<DocScrutinizer05> the interesting question is: where from does N900 kernel get its OPP frequencies?
<DocScrutinizer05> ATAG?
<DocScrutinizer05> and would a powerkernel not be adaptable to the frequencies of 3630, even when we don't use a new kernel?
<DocScrutinizer05> when OC works on N900's 3430, it should work on a 3630 as well, no?
<freemangordon> in powerkernel OPPS are hardcoded
<DocScrutinizer05> thought as much
<DocScrutinizer05> so yes, we need a 'new' kernel, but that can be an old kernel as well
<DocScrutinizer05> a new kernel (like 4.5) is desirable for sure, but it is not mission critical
<freemangordon> you can try to boot PK on BB-xm
<DocScrutinizer05> yep
<freemangordon> however, /me has to run, bbl
<DocScrutinizer05> cya, thanks!
<DocScrutinizer05> have a nice day

<wpwrak> hellekin: i think we need to be clear about the distinction between "used" and "refurbished". as far as a i know, we don't have refurbishing capabilities (i.e., people who clean, examine, test, and whatever else gets done in the process), and it may be non-trivial to acquire them.
vakkov has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<wpwrak> hellekin: well, "used" is a superset of "refurbished", so a "used" device may very well be a "refurb", but if not explicitly stated, it may not
<DocScrutinizer05> ah, thanks werner
<wpwrak> besides that, it sounds as if it can't hurt to explore that direction
<DocScrutinizer05> hellekin: as a general rule we usually don't discuss strictly business stuff in public
<DocScrutinizer05> it can have negative impact on the business itself
<wpwrak> and preferably not mention names, unless the person has agreed to be mentioned in public :)
