<Halftux> hi joerg do you know if it is possible to replace the 256mb ram from N900 with 512mb? I have seen that there is one 128mb Numonyx M39L0R7070 chip inside. From where comes the other 128mb?
pkill9 has joined #neo900
<Halftux> Could it be possible to solder the M39L0R8090 ?

<drathir> not sure but there was soc limitation if good remember i guess...
<Joerg-Neo900> Hi Halftux! the N900 has 256MB (no idea where from you have the 128MB info) PoP on CPU, theoretically you could upgrade this to 1GB like we did on the BB-xM. But it's *very* demanding and we killed a few boards to get one that worked. TI PoP isn't meant to get disassembled once you "married" the CPU with the PoP-Top
<Joerg-Neo900> drathir: the limit was "2 banks a 512MB" for OMAP3
<drathir> Joerg-Neo900: oh than wrong remember...
<Joerg-Neo900> KCE00E00CA is the 1GB RAM PoP chip we sourced
<drathir> Joerg-Neo900: im wonder how about power consumption of such upgrade? mean i n900 is any visable ?
<Joerg-Neo900> three guys received chips for free to pimp their N900, none of them reported back - I don't know if they all killed themselves during the endeavor or were simply too embarrassed of the total failure
<drathir> oh... thats scary...
<Joerg-Neo900> drathir: the 1GB chip needs negligibly more power than the 236MB
<Joerg-Neo900> I guess if one of those guys had succeeded to pimp a N900 they came bragging, no?
* drathir wonder with phones is similar to pc mb+cpu support needed for ram?
<Joerg-Neo900> please rephrase
<Halftux> Thank you for the links. the n900 chip has 128mb flash and 128mb lpddr according to the datasheet and number on the chip so in total 256mb? and there is another configuration with 256mb flash and 512mb lddr?
<Joerg-Neo900> N900 has 256MB RAM and those are in PoP
<Joerg-Neo900> KCE00E00CA has 1024MB RAM + iirc 512MB NAND
<Joerg-Neo900> drathir: could you please rephrase your question?
<Halftux> So after removing the old chip I need to seperate the cpu and soldering the new ram onto it and then soldering the pop to the pcb
<Halftux> So I could get access to SMT/BGA Rework machines and also a reball machine. http://www.finetech.de/advanced-rework/applications/package-on-package-pop.html

<drathir> Joerg-Neo900: sure i have on mean if similar rules apply when You chose ram to mobile platforms configurations as phones eg. in way ram must be supported by cpy and motherboard used in phone ?
<drathir> cpy/cpu*

<Halftux> So I had a closer look at your N900 block diagram and first I was refering to the wrong chip. I had wrong information from the internet, there is also written that the samsung chip has 2GB. So the KAT00F00DD-AE77 needs to be replaced with the KCE00E00CA and it is sitting on top of the omap, so to say a South-Korea-USA pop with South-Korea on top (popt).
