<houkime> Inspected files of ee. Am I right that you don't have any layout (even incorrect one) whatsoever?
<houkime> Mb I missed sth?
useretail has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<houkime> ok, so as I could see from documentation, there are specific points where interboard connectors should be for correct docking.
<houkime> however, it is not yet clear for me how should boards themselves be organized in the case (what are offsets that arise from in-case relative alignment).
<houkime> revising documentation again.

<houkime> ok, found some info, though some liberty exsists on the exterior part of UPPER (like where exactly should be bb-xm).
<houkime> finally found some pcb layouts
<houkime> for some reason only in .brd format but not converted to kicad.
<houkime> guys you know that Eagle is a proprietary paid program, right?
<houkime> (though maybe better autorouter makes for it)

<ravelo> houkime: thanks for your interest in the layout
<ravelo> The layout already started but is not publicly on git available
<houkime> why not publicly? Jorg said that there is a problem there that blocks everything.
<houkime> and a man who usually does this stuff is gone. Why keeping to yourself then?
useretail has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<houkime> I personally need this kind of thing you develop. The sooner it is all done the better.

<houkime> *Joerg (sorry for typo)
<ravelo> houkime: Joerg-Neo900 should andere this
<ravelo> Can you help with the layout?
<ravelo> I don't know the current status
<ravelo> Contributions in any way are needed
<ravelo> *should comment this
<ravelo> The schematics are in a very good state. I don't actually know the exact status of the layout
<houkime> IDK if I can honestly. Physics faculty finished with electrical training and stuff (very scrupulous lab worker), long-time enthusiast, but have 0 exp with pcb layouts.
<houkime> lots of time spare though
<houkime> fast learning.
<houkime> Will definetely try. Not sure about result but trying thing i will do.

<pkill9> would it be possible to buy a neo900 after it's been produced?
<pkill9> rather than pre-ordering?
<pkill9> idk how crowdfunding works

<houkime> with ipc standards there is a huge problem that there's a paywall (which is a terribly bad move). Only outdated stuff is lying around.
<houkime> ok, now I'm starting to think that OSH community deliberately needs open pcb design standards.
<houkime> can't find anything.

<ravelo> houkime: afaik there is little knowledge about this topic, so there are no standards. Layouter should choose the apropriate Standard.
<ravelo> Afaik the former layouter tried to adhere to a selfchosen Standard. It for sure can be found in the logs somewhere...
himcesjf_ is now known as him-cesjf
<ravelo> houkime: " All footprints are being tweaked so they're made IPC compliant."

paul_boddie has joined #neo900
<paul_boddie> I think Eagle was only being used when Nikolaus was involved, because that is his tool of choice.
<paul_boddie> But there was a determined effort to migrate to KiCad, and I think it was ceene who did the footprints to facilitate that.
<paul_boddie> The problem then was finding a layouter who understood KiCad. Such people are "strongly bound" by their tools, it would seem.
<houkime> ravelo: well, I probably should have a 2007 draft of ipc-2221B that i found lying around + internet+whatever is recoverable from documents.
<houkime> (which documents i do not yet have because you haven't published them)
<houkime> *which layouts
<houkime> The only things that I found are tweaked gta04 boards.
<ravelo> paul_boddie: right. KiCad is free and opensource but not so widely used especially not for more layers
<ravelo> houkime: so you already have seen the schematics and now want to see the current status of the layout, right?
<ravelo> You definitely must talk to Joerg about this.
<ravelo> Schematics were done by wpwrak if you habe questions, footprints by wpwrak and ceene iirc
<Joerg-Neo900> schematics were done by wpwrak and me, footprints by ceene and then redone by metacollin for IPC compliance
<houkime> I don't really know why you hid layouts in the first place. I will probably familiarize myself a little more with schematics till i have file (ideally-just published).
<houkime> thanks
<Joerg-Neo900> the layout is in a non-public shadow-git, to defeat chinese copycats
<ravelo> Hello Joerg, nice to see you
<Joerg-Neo900> sorry, been in a meeting to go ahead with Neo900
<ravelo> Great to hear
<Joerg-Neo900> houkime: if you're really interested in tackling the layout, we need to chat about that in a /query
<Joerg-Neo900> our policy is to publish the layput project files only after production started
<Joerg-Neo900> right now we're in a linbo state though with layout, since our layouter metacollin whom I managed to contract after a year of searching and interviews with layouters, is MIA
<houkime> started query.
