<xantoz> thecycoone: I'm running on wayland (sway), which might make a difference (it does for qtwebengine, which has a similar bug unless one disablea gpu compositing. That bug has always been there for me though)

<dgm78> Hi! I have tvbox S905X3 with G31 GPU and I compiled and installed Panfrost, but now xorg is very very slow... Made something wrong or no support yet for G31?
<robmur01> nope, no Bifrost yet, sorry
<robmur01> although some work has started...
<dgm78> robmur01, thanks

<thecycoone> xantoz: I'm also on sway. I can't be sure, but I think I was following your steps (but on a later git commit)
<xantoz> I had the same issue on mesa stable now earlier as well
<xantoz> so might be intermittent?
davidlt has joined #panfrost
<xantoz> well, firefox's wayland backend is quite buggy in itself as well (although I've only had this particular bug on panfrost)

<thecycoone> xantoz: do you have any issues with other programs. I hit pretty bad corruption on the mesa fire demo, okular, CorsixTH - less often in firefox.
<thecycoone> konsole in sway seems solid at least :)
<tomeu> thecycoone: what hw, btw?
gcl_ has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<thecycoone> kevin
<tomeu> thecycoone: ok, hold on
<thecycoone> currently with a native (no patches) linux 5.5.6, and latest git mesa as of yesterday evening
<thecycoone> but the issues have been around for awhile
gcl has joined #panfrost
<thecycoone> yep, I'll try compiling that patch in later tonight. Thanks
<thecycoone> tomeu: did you see my dmesg paste from earlier?
<tomeu> no, sorry

<maccraft> does panfrost require any firmware without source?
guillaume_g has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<thecycoone> tomeu: no problem, easy to reproduce. https://pastebin.com/qyfe9HLz
<thecycoone> (and after that happens, it's broken until reboot. The VT is fine exiting sway, but if I go back into sway it's corrupt still)
<tomeu> yeah, looks like it
<tomeu> maccraft: no
<maccraft> tomeu: so it's 1000000000000% open like libreboot's bios image?
<tomeu> maccraft: well, don't know how to answer that question
<tomeu> but we don't require the user to install any closed source stuff
<maccraft> do you include it in any way?
<tomeu> maccraft: no
<maccraft> is there any "config" thing that is not open source?
<tomeu> thecycoone: if I'm correct, you will hit those issues when the GPU was running at a high frequency
maccraft has quit [Quit: WeeChat 2.7.1]

<maccraft> fck, i closed my irc window
<maccraft> sorry
<tomeu> thecycoone: apparently the voltage is too low for things to work reliably at some frequencies
<thecycoone> ok, that would make sense
<daniels> maccraft: no, there is no proprietary firmware or blobs required, the software is completely open and not giant blobs of hex
gcl_ has joined #panfrost
<alyssa> maccraft: 100% open like libreboot :)
<alyssa> and if you're running a veyron chromebook (like asus c201), you can have it 100% open with libreboot too ;)
<maccraft> hey guess what came in mail 3 days

<alyssa> (RK3288 chromebooks should run completely bloblessly with panfrost with the exception of wifi. If you can tolerate wi-fi not working, it's 100% open... personally I use Ethernet anyway)
<alyssa> RK3399 chromebooks are similar except there's a blob needed for display out over usb type-C (but if you use the integrated display it's blobless), and also there's a DSP related firmware that might be used on ChromeOS? that at any rate you won't be running anyway, something about wake-on-word detection I think
<robmur01> alyssa: but you've still got to get through the SoC mask ROM to boot at all :P
* robmur01 ducks
<alyssa> robmur01: Well, they asked about libreboot, which has the same blobs (plus somethings like the embedded controller, etc)..
pH5 has quit [Quit: bye]
<maccraft> technically the display may run blob on it's mcu
<maccraft> to decode eDP to whatever the tn panel is controlled by
<robmur01> the sad truth is that computers are just fractals of more computers
<maccraft> but i don't really care about blobs as long as they are not making my experience worse
<alyssa> I'd believe it... at any rate, overall these machines with panfrost are no worse (and probably marginally better) than the libreboot'able thinkpads, in terms of ability to run 100% libre sw.
<maccraft> like fucking me eating my flash space
<maccraft> management engine firmware*
<alyssa> Definitely none of that :)
<maccraft> with stuff like reverse engineered gpu drivers, firmware may make it worse
<alyssa> None of the Mali GPUs we've studied (Utgard, Midgard, Bifrost) have any firmware as far as we can see, from the CPU side (userspace/kernelspace)
<alyssa> (Whether there are internal ROMs, who knows? but doesn't materially matter.)

<robmur01> maybe it did start working for *some* configurations :)
<apol> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what do I know
<robmur01> probably a distro thing
<robmur01> that's my usual excuse for problems I don't understand and can't be bothered to look into
<urjaman> yeah iirc it was broken on arch at some point but then it got fixed?
<robmur01> or anything to do with libraries really :)
<urjaman> dunno about debian
<urjaman> (or manjaro for that matter :P)
<urjaman> maybe they broke it again ...
<robmur01> oh, the joy of Arch... on which note I still can't decide what to do about GDM having apparently eaten itself at some point in the last couple of months
<robmur01> it typically SEGVs somewhere in X11, yet it's supposed to running Wayland :/
