<urjaman> i was expecting something wild when you said "Whoa", but no it's the same that i'm already looking at :P
<HdkR> I don't think I've use a 1366x768 resolution device since like 2008 :P
<urjaman> I mean i dont have any other 1366 devices except the C201's, and while i'd like a 1440x900 (or thereabouts), it's actually fine for the device (and not too many pixels to push around)

<alyssa> 1080p is pretty good for me
<alyssa> kevin's 2400x1600 was a bit much before I had GPU acceleration ;P
<urjaman> yeah the RK3288 isnt that fast :P, if i plug the C201 into a 1080p screen i end up being annoyed that it doesnt properly keep up with decoding 1080p youtube (VP9 IIRC, like it displays but feels laggy and even the youtube stats indicate it sometimes skipping frames) to it...

<urjaman> maybe i should check if there's something silly hurting the perf but ehh lazy

<alyssa> yeah, vp9 sw decode isn't great
<alyssa> better than vp9 sw encode which my poor c201 had to do :)

<l-as> question: I get errors like `DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CREATE_DUMB failed: Cannot allocate memory` some times, and I assume that this is due to running out of memory, but does/can panfrost not use swap or something like that? I am using an ODROID N2 if that's relevant.

<alyssa> not sure, I don't use swap

<robmur01> possibly the display driver allocating BOs from CMA - that can be exhausted long before actual physical memory
<robmur01> (not sure if and how panfrost allocates things for itself)

<tomeu> if it's dumb buffers, then it's on the display driver (meson in this case)
<tomeu> and I guess meson also allocates BOs on CMA?

<remexre> panfrost-adjacent-ish question: should mesa be providing /usr/lib/dri/rockchip_drv_video.so ? (or some libva-for-panfrost driver)?
<remexre> it provides e.g. nouveau_drv_video.so, but libva looks like it's expecting a rockchip_drv_video.so there
buzzmarshall has joined #panfrost
<alyssa> remexre: no, it should not be, and it should not be expecting it
<alyssa> nouveau provides one since (afaik) nv cards have video processing hardware on them that needs nouveau to drive it
<alyssa> panfrost doesn't since mali gpus don't have any video processing capabilities,
<alyssa> on rockchip you'd need a va implementation for the VPU on-board (hantro, most likely)
<alyssa> ezequielg: ^^
<alyssa> (That does exist on mainline but it's independent of panfrost)
icecream95 has joined #panfrost
<remexre> alyssa: oh, hm, would that be in some package named like *va* ?
<Lyude> no, it would be vdpau
<Lyude> oh-wait
<Lyude> misread the question
<Lyude> (thought you were asking about nouveau for some reason...)

<ezequielg> remexre: alyssa : there's some libva stuff available but it's a bit experimental, iiuc. Personally I haven't even tested it, since it requires libva core changes and since we have native gstreamer ready.
<ezequielg> Would it maybe be enough with gstreamer?
<ezequielg> For your needs?
<remexre> ezequielg: I'm trying to get vlc to work, lemme see if I can get it to use gstreamer?
<ezequielg> Hm, think not ...
