What is the secret to running glmark2-es2-drm under gdb?

When it crashes midway through that is

I don't see the gdb prompt when it crashes and I can't start it via ssh

If I run it outside of gdb, glmark2 segfaults and I am returned to the framebuffer console

general rule of debugging display stuff: you just have to figure out how to start it from ssh.

three options when you're debugging stuff which controls your display. as anholt says, the best is to do it over SSH from another machine. the second-best is figuring out the GDB scripting incantation to have it autonomously generate a backtrace. the third best is 'ulimit -c unlimited' and offline analysis of the core file

you don't need to copy the core file, you can run 'gdb $exepath $corepath'

and from there you can get a backtrace

it will dump core if you have 'ulimit -c unlimited' (and you don't have anything like systemd-coredump which would intercept the dump, though in that case you can use coredumpctl to find it)
