cfbolz changed the topic of #pypy to: PyPy, the flexible snake (IRC logs: https://quodlibet.duckdns.org/irc/pypy/latest.log.html#irc-end ) | use cffi for calling C | if a pep adds a mere 25-30 [C-API] functions or so, it's a drop in the ocean (cough) - Armin

<YannickJadoul> mattip: Here as well, if this is easier than heptapod
<mattip> hi
<mattip> can you try that tarball I pointed to?
<YannickJadoul> Now indeed 3.6 failed
<YannickJadoul> Is this the 3.6 to try? https://vazor.com/drop/pypy3.6-v7.3.1-osx64.tar.bz2
<YannickJadoul> Or is there one from buildbot as well?
<YannickJadoul> (If it's any consolation, CPython seems to be having problems as well with the libffi.so.6 to libffi.so.7 update: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/61875869/ubuntu-20-04-upgrade-python-missing-libffi-so-6, https://bugs.python.org/issue40367 )
<mattip> no, there is not yet a 3.6 to try. I will merge the PR in a bit to default, then to py3.6, so hopefully tomorrow's builds will work
<YannickJadoul> :-) Thanks!
<YannickJadoul> What a horrible packaging issue you need to deal with, though
<mattip> the same person running our buildbot is also involved in the cpython one
<mattip> but cpython's package statically binds libffi, the issue you linked to is a problem with debian/ubuntu cpython
oberstet has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<YannickJadoul> I noticed, yes. But it's probably the same reason why the `brew install libffi` didn't fix the problem, if it installs a too new version
<mattip> right
<pmp-p> i think since 3.7 ctypes module links dynamically to system libffi not statically
<pmp-p> so some prebuilt will fail indeed
