<spacekookie> noracodes jess3jane mathju lux3 https://spacekookie.de/blog/collaborating-with-git-send-email/ bit of a post I put together talking about git mail collaboration. Feedback welome
<amanjeev> I am trying to set that up! One issue I have is that I do not use a mail client (I know!). And setting a password in git config seems a bit unsecure. So I am trying to use what you do emacs+notmuch but it seems like I have a lot to read up first.
<amanjeev> spacekookie, That blog post has been very helpful
<spacekookie> Also noracodes I'm working on async-ifiyng the ratman core this evening. Would be cool to get some feedback from you once you're back in Chicago
<spacekookie> amanjeev: oh thanks :)
<spacekookie> Hmm, yea I mean I use sendmail and then encrypt my password with my yubikey
<spacekookie> You could always generate an app-specific password for it. But yea, is maybe a bit weird to just set the password in plain text
<qyliss> amanjeev: you don't have to put the password in a config file, I believe
<qyliss> It should prompt you every time if no password is set
<amanjeev> I agree qyliss ! Sorry I am still learning this so if I send emails or patches that are sub par please forgive me and point me to the issue I need fixing.
<noracodes> spacekookie: definitely! I'll deep dive on it in a few hours, and i'll look at git-send-email as well
<spacekookie> Hope your trip wasn't too bad!
<noracodes> Mostly okay! I managed to get very sick twice in a row, which is annoying, but it was fun anyway. And I have a job interview at ThoughtWorks tomorrow!
<spacekookie> Oh no
<spacekookie> (at the getting sick, not the interviews)
<spacekookie> amanjeev: what OS are you using? Because I was just thinking that it might also be possible for you to setup msmtp to use a gnome-keyring or something
<amanjeev> spacekookie, take a willlllld guess about my OS! You are the one who got me hooked on it :D
<amanjeev> nixos ofcourse!
<amanjeev> noracodes, omg I have been sick for days :( All the best for the interview :)
<noracodes> feel better amanjeev! and, thank you!
<spacekookie> amanjeev: eh woops I forgot about that xD
<spacekookie> I don't know how I could have tbh x)
<amanjeev> lol I have been literally recruiting people on twitter for nixos
<spacekookie> Haha
<spacekookie> I should change my mail setup slightly, because I have the password in plain text on my computer, but only readable by root
<spacekookie> But to send I still use a GPG encrypted version
<amanjeev> Sometimes I wonder would only root-readable help on a developer machine xD
<qyliss> if you're careful about what you run as root it will
<qyliss> but it's not great, since things do need to be root sometimes
<amanjeev> tru
<amanjeev> Is anyone using Thunderbird here?

<spacekookie> amanjeev: I sometimes to debug stuff
<spacekookie> Or to move emails around folders: notmuch only works with tags
<amanjeev> oh ok! I might just use that and set that up with git send email

<spacekookie> Sending patches with thunderbird (or any other client) can always be tricky because a lot of them try to be smart
<spacekookie> noracodes: this diff is gonna be huge >.<
<amanjeev> Thank you kind folks
