<wpwrak>
have a copy of a known to be good config file and just edit it ? :)
<whitequark>
editing config files. yeah, that's my idea of "convenience"
<whitequark>
as opposed to "press a single button", like on every single other fucking OS around

press a button, something happens (or not), then spend an hour trying to figure out how the thing is supposed to work behind the scenes, and fix the problem :)
<whitequark>
literally never happened
<wpwrak>
i had NM do weird things. besides, on almost all of my machines, there's one and only one valid network configuration. a configuration for which i already have all the shell commands. so NM can only make things worse.

it took me a bit of work to make NM behave properly
<dos1>
for quite a long time I kept it uninstalled, until it started to work somewhat reasonably
<dos1>
maybe my usecase of connecting a lot of various devices with g_ether with different configurations, and modems that I don't want NM to handle for me, is not a very common one
<dos1>
good that they finally started to go the less sucking path ;)

dos1: did you manage to keep NM from starting to go apeshit when you connect any such g_ether etc, particularly N900 and other usb modems?
<DocScrutinizer05>
I always found it particularly annoying and cumbersome to keep NM from disconecting from my normal wired ethernet as soon as I try to e.g. connect an USB gadget and establish a segregated IP subnet to e.g. run a ssh session over it
<DocScrutinizer05>
cheesy NM always detects a new NIC and nukes my route and default gateway etc
<whitequark>
oh I see what you mean.
<whitequark>
for that I forbid NM to touch the g_ether ifaces.
<whitequark>
so I guess it did happen (re wpwrak)

dang! just had to do `jr@saturn:~> sudo bin/revoco-05 auto=8` for my last working fresh virgin MX Revolution mouse.
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, now I have two MX-revo mice with broken LMB switch. More resonable to do fix on both of them same time. Less overhead ;-)
