<astr>
know anything about cryptsetup ubuntu/debain installs?
<whitequark>
I have one
xiangfu has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<astr>
whitequark, I did a full install custom encrypted / . so no swap just /boot & / and no lvm. it works but I mounted / and added some files and now when I boot it and correctly enter my pass it doesn't complete boot with the error of the checksum not matching for root fs. how do I regenerate this checksum?
<whitequark>
what is the error exactly?
<whitequark>
and which FS?
<astr>
ext4
<astr>
did a FS check and that was fine no errors
<astr>
I think it's becuase I modified / when the sytem wasn't booted and somewhere there is a checksum for / to see if it's been modified which is checked when I try to boot the system
<whitequark>
there is no such checksum
<whitequark>
what is the exact error you're getting?
<astr>
ok well I enter my password and then I get the option of maintence shell or S for skip
<whitequark>
can you take a photo of it or type the error exactly as it appears?
<astr>
I forget exalty I think it was something like "checksum did not match"
<whitequark>
well, I can't help you with that.
<astr>
sigh ok, i'll reboot laptop. thank you for baring with me
<astr>
not long now...
<astr>
crypt_sdc5 cryptsetup setup usefully
<astr>
press s to skip mounting or m for manual recovery
<astr>
whitequark,
<astr>
press S get continure to wait, or press S to skip.......
<astr>
screen gone black no info even after pressing esc to get console
<astr>
giving up killing it
<astr>
hmnm
<astr>
#2
<whitequark>
that's not the entire message, is it?
<whitequark>
also, "usefully"? wtf
<astr>
hang on
<astr>
opps sorry i mean : successfully
<whitequark>
so where's the checksum error there?
<astr>
trying to find it
<astr>
ok so after cryptsetup: sdc5_crypt setup seccessfully then I get "Keys: Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery"
<astr>
this time I press M instead of S
<whitequark>
it should have printed something else before, then
<astr>
in maintenance console: "root filesystem check failed."
<astr>
a maintence shell with now be started
wolfspraul has quit [Quit: leaving]
<astr>
control-d to reboot
<astr>
so I see the error when I press M for manual recovery
<astr>
"root filesystem check failed."
<astr>
hmm what to do
<whitequark>
so, this is simply a dirty filesystem
<whitequark>
fsck it.
<astr>
but I did a fsck with gpared allreadly
<astr>
gparted
<whitequark>
well, do it from the maintenance shell
<astr>
I booted into my other install unlocked the encrypted partition and did a ....
<astr>
ok
<astr>
fsck /dev/mapper/sdc5_crypt I shall do
<astr>
e2fsck: reports it as clean
<astr>
I assume you don't need the files and blocks count?
<astr>
arrr I wonder.....
<astr>
no never mind
<astr>
then again maybe mount for the dev point was the wrong one as /etc/mtab is not updated
<astr>
...
<astr>
i'll try agian
<astr>
cat /proc/mounts
<astr>
how to get dev point for encrypted ext4 FS
<astr>
hmm /etc/crypttab
<astr>
oh no
<astr>
thanks no it
<astr>
why did i write thanks no it urgh
xiangfu has joined #qi-hardware
<astr>
whitequark, arr ok just running fsck was all was needed
<astr>
oh but yea fsck says clean for /boot partition and for ext4 / partition
