<CStars> cnf: any idea how to start ubuntu instead android?
<cnf> not the foggiest
<cnf> i know nothing of these machines, i came here to ask a question :P
<cnf> been here 3 or 4 days, haven't seen anyone talk ^^;
<CStars> hmm, it's a great cheeap board. I like it. ;-) faster than my raspis
<CStars> But in fact i want to have debian running on it. But starting with ubuntu is also ok.
<cnf> hehe
<cnf> i'm just looking for something portable
<cnf> and thickness is imo a deciding factor there
<cnf> so this looked like a contender
<zombu2> it looked like a contender then after you get it you find out that software is halfassed and nothing works right and you wish you would have gotten 3 rpi's
<cnf> haha!
<cnf> zombu2: welcome to the party :P
<cnf> zombu2: not happy with it, i gather? :P

<zombu2> oh the hardware is great
<zombu2> now they think about making a new board with the old one still not working even 30%
<cnf> haha
<zombu2> this is what gives open source a bad name
<cnf> ah well :/
<cnf> i'm still looking for a nice portable system :/
<zombu2> yeah
<cnf> the r-pi would be fine, if it was thinner
<zombu2> rpi does what i want
<cnf> uhu
<cnf> just ordered an B+
<cnf> which is fine for at home
<cnf> just a bit bulky to carry around in my bag
<zombu2> not that bad
<zombu2> i wish video acceleration would work right
<zombu2> and BT and gpio
<cnf> oh? that's one of the things that does work on the r-pi for me
<cnf> usb on the other hand :P
<zombu2> no on the radxa
<zombu2> no issues on rpi
<cnf> ah, ok
<zombu2> well besides video
<cnf> well, the B has usb issues
<cnf> but the B+ should have those fixed
<zombu2> but rpi at home don t need video it s a sprinkler clock heh
<cnf> hehe
<zombu2> yeah usb power was routerd kinda funky
<zombu2> i wish the new rpi had a better cpu and more ram
<cnf> yeah, sure
<zombu2> it seems all boards have something missing
<zombu2> you get a good cpu and rest is crap
<zombu2> or lots of ram and weak cpu
<cnf> yeah, well
<cnf> else they'd cost a shit ton :P
<cnf> zombu2: have you looked at the odroids?
<zombu2> i think so
derrick13 has joined #radxa
<cnf> they looks nice
<zombu2> yeah but for 179 i can get a pc
<cnf> yeah :P
<cnf> they are not cheap :P
<zombu2> they making a hell of a profit
<zombu2> and prolly same issues then all the other boards
<cnf> from what I have read their support is actually very god
<cnf> good*
<zombu2> really?
<cnf> from what I read around, yes
<cnf> their irc channel is reasonably active as well
<zombu2> what you can t say from the cubie or radxa
<cnf> indeed
<derrick13> hey what was the name of the board that cost 179, did not get that message
<cnf> odroid u3
<cnf> $169
<cnf> oh, no
<cnf> $65 for the base model
<derrick13> i copied it to the sdcard and it was not working
<cnf> zombu2: have you seen that one?
<derrick13> do you have to do anything to boot from sdcard
<zombu2> i don t think you can just copy that
<zombu2> cnf yeah sen that dut it looks like a very watered down version plus i don t like exenyos
<derrick13> yes, sorry, i mean copied via dd
<zombu2> i wonder if that image is made for a sdcard
<derrick13> also, does the sdcard has to be formatted to ext4
<derrick13> that is my question also
<zombu2> well the name of the file don t suggest sdcard so i would assume nand
<derrick13> ok, will attemp that
<derrick13> i just got mine the other day
<derrick13> been using the udoo primarly
<derrick13> how you guys liking the radxa
<zombu2> i moved my nand image to ssd after nand install to speed it up some
<cnf> why do all these stupid things run android? >,<
<zombu2> i dunno
<zombu2> it s a phone os and not suited for this
<zombu2> but it s easy to get running so they release that to make it looks like it s working sweet
<cnf> bah
<cnf> i just need a pocket linux computer
<zombu2> i won t be getting another of these boards since they all just plain suck
<zombu2> get a android phone install ubuntu on it
<cnf> which is useless
<derrick13> yeah, they all seem to suck for the software support
<zombu2> so are all of these boards
<cnf> i need wired ethernet and usb at least
<zombu2> phones have usb
<cnf> host usb
<derrick13> the udoo seems to be getting better
<zombu2> simple cable fro otg to usb
<cnf> which gives you one usb, which is not enough, and also crappy support
<zombu2> well if you want working you gotta get a laptop
<cnf> i have a laptop
<zombu2> all these mini soluitons are just crap
<cnf> which is not what i need
<zombu2> i know that
<zombu2> i got the same issue
<zombu2> fact is all these boards suck ass
<zombu2> big time
<cnf> i'd like http://www.get-console.com/airconsole/, but with an OS i can actually hack :P
<zombu2> they put this mali gpu on and can t get the drivers from the manufacturer
<derrick13> why cant they get the drivers
<zombu2> closed source
<zombu2> and they got some wierd policy on them drivers
<zombu2> i made myself a bluetooth serial console
<derrick13> wow
<zombu2> can also be done with wifi
<derrick13> so video sucks on the radxa?
<zombu2> yup
<derrick13> wish i would have known that
<zombu2> it sucks on cubie on radxa and on rpi
<derrick13> the android image played a youtube video pretty smoothly, but not android guy
<zombu2> half assed drivers
<zombu2> these boards are good for simple things like sprinkler systems garage door and house door openeers but thats it
<cnf> hey, it is my universal remote :P
<cnf> which is well useful :P
<zombu2> i got a phone for that haha
<cnf> not what mine does
<zombu2> what does it do
<cnf> control anything in my media chain with 1 ir remote
<cnf> plex, TV, the denon, etc
<zombu2> my phone does that
<cnf> turns stuff on, and off as well, including the NAS
<zombu2> my phone does that
<cnf> sure it does
<zombu2> my phone has ir port
<cnf> nice, except half my devices can't be controlled over ir
<cnf> and IR sucks anyway
<zombu2> well then you use wifi or bt
<zombu2> i really like the ir
<cnf> or, you know, i run my own software that does it all
<zombu2> thats nice too
<zombu2> i use bt modules to do my bidding around the housew
<zombu2> with oss firmware on em they got usb , 11 gpio ,etc

<derrick13> what am I doing wrong?
cnf has left #radxa ["Bye"]
<zombu2> prolly nothing it s just like everything else with this board ......don t work rigth
<derrick13> sdcard image is not working either... formatted sdcard as fat32, then dd if=/home/test/Downloads/radxa_rock_lubuntu_desktop_140626_sdcard/radxa_rock_lubuntu_desktop_140626_sdcard.img of=/dev/sdc ... no joy WTF
<zombu2> dunno
<zombu2> i just write it off as another broken piece
