I'm facing a funny issue that my rails app connects to postgres in local environment but does not in production. I am using docker, connected to the container and was able to verify the container has visibility to the postgres server with psql.

I am not using any database.yml and expect the connection details is obtained by DATABASE_URL. I also bashed in the server and did pp ENV and I can see the DATABASE_URL environment variable

I suspect you're using the wrong network type for your container.

I suspect that if you add a postgresql container to your docker environment and run the database on that you will be able to connect to that one.
