ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError)
<chexxor>
Anyone seen this error before?
<chexxor>
Internet search tells me the problem is related to DNS. When I run this command outside of the sterile shell, it works.
<chexxor>
What kind of environment variables is Gem trying to use?

I discovered that the $http_proxy environment variable was set by a dependent package
<chexxor>
drbrain: I fixed it by doing `unset http_proxy`
<chexxor>
I checked the HTTP_PROXY env var, but not the http_proxy one
<chexxor>
thanks!

hi. I run "gem install bundler" and it installs the gem into /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/bundler-1.3.5 but when I run "bundle install" the command is not in my path
<tvlooy>
when I run "/var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/bundler-1.3.5/bin/bundle install" I get a LoadError. I'm on Debian 6. Any clues?

Hi there - I'm looking to package up ruby gems for deployment on our platform and our build system works on the basis of a proto area. I was hoping to use "gem install --install-dir /path/to/proto foo" to install to the proto area to do this, but it uses a different layout to how it would install if I just did a "gem install foo"
<Alasdairrr>
I wondered if there was something I was missing, or if anyone had any hints or tips on actually packaging up gems
<Alasdairrr>
I'm basically looking for the gem equivalent of DEST_DIR= from the gnu autoconf world

tarcieri: for the .pems you added, can you update util/create_certs.rb?
<drbrain>
tarcieri: so if they need to be rebuilt it's not a pain
<tarcieri>
drbrain: sure!

drbrain: I will write a generator for root.txt eventually
<drbrain>
the first time I generated the test certs they were too short for FIPS
<drbrain>
awesome
<tarcieri>
this was just blocking the other people
<tarcieri>
hahaha
<tarcieri>
yeah I made 2048-bit RSA keys with a public exponent of 65537 ;)
<drbrain>
I had forgotten what was in all the certs so I had to rebuild them from the openssl x509 output ☹
<tarcieri>
heh, I actually used OpenSSL::RSA::PKey.new

yeah, that's what I used the first time, but I threw the script away

drbrain: I expect there will be a lot of cleanup needed on this. We're still trying to get stuff in place so we can work on this in parallel
<drbrain>
tarcieri: yeah, np
<drbrain>
indirect: ping
<drbrain>
tarcieri: it looks like you're wrapping the current rubygems index?
<drbrain>
tarcieri: if so, you'll want to coordinate with indirect as he's working on the next generation index
<indirect>
drbrain: hi?
<indirect>
oh
<indirect>
yeah
<indirect>
we can even work on it together in person if you want :P
