<dwrensha>
then when I ran Sandstorm my root filesystem got wrecked
<dwrensha>
I just wanted to be able to inspect all these mounts that were being made!

<sparky>
Hi, I just installed piwik and setup a website but does not seem to be collecting data. Is this a permissions setting somewhere? Do I need to change something?
<dwrensha>
sparky: zarvox is the piwik expert
<dwrensha>
er, zarvox_ I suppose
<sparky>
I looked at the sandstorm log file for my piwik grain but that's not helpful
<sparky>
what do you suggest?
<dwrensha>
sparky: is the Piwik grain on your own self-hosted Sandstorm server?
<sparky>
using sandstorm.io to host it.
<dwrensha>
oasis.sandstorm.io?
<dwrensha>
is your website behind a cache? Maybe it hasn't updated yet and your browser isn't seeing the piwik javascript.
<sparky>
sites is hosted on rackspace. yes I believe a CDN is being used.
<sparky>
i can see the piwik code in my browser when I view source.
<dwrensha>
yeah, me too
<dwrensha>
Can you see the Dashboard in the Piwik grain?
<sparky>
yes
<dwrensha>
I guess it just says zero visits
<sparky>
correct
<dwrensha>
I just tried setting up a piwik grain and it works for me. I wonder what's different about your setup.
<dwrensha>
I wonder whether I could try embedding your javascript snippet on my webpage
<dwrensha>
and see if that produces visits on your dashboard
<sparky>
sure. give it shot.
<dwrensha>
OK. Did you get some visits just now?
<sparky>
still zero.
<dwrensha>
weird
<sparky>
do I need to restart sandstorm app maybe?
<dwrensha>
I don't really have a good understand of how Piwik works.
<dwrensha>
*understanding
<dwrensha>
It seems weird to me that it would allow me to include your snippet and pollute your stats.
<dwrensha>
That's to say, I guess I'm not too surprised that what I just tried didn't do anything.
<sparky>
it still isn't collecting anything, so for all we know it might be blocking your usage. But we can't tell the difference because it wasn't collecting anything from my site.
<sparky>
it is encouraging that you have piwik working on sandstorm.io. Tomorrow I will try it with a different site that I have access to. See if I can isolate it. thanks for your help.

It looks like a symlink, but actually traverses namespaces and everything

I'm not sure what sparky's issue is, but I observe the Piwik backend answering 204 to the POST to api.oasis.sandstorm.io in my Firefox network tab when I visit http://www.neighborhoodfieldguide.org

zarvox: interesting. I had tried looking at /proc/<pid>/mounts, but that didn't seem to contain any useful information. I suppose it's possible that I had the wrong PID.

Hello. I have a local Sandstorm instance, and I'm trying to get it to work with https and a sandcats subdomain. I had set it up before https was available for those domains.
heliostatic has joined #sandstorm
<maurer>
michael_s: While this method is not supported, I had success simply running the installer over the top of my existing instance
<maurer>
(this isn't known to work in all cases, this is just an anecdote)
<michael_s>
thanks. I may just do that.
<paulproteus>
Howdy michael_s
<paulproteus>
michael_s: We have a documented upgrade path for Sandcats users to get HTTPS!
<michael_s>
Paulproteus, thanks. I tried it, and maybe I've done something wrong but after modifying my sandstorm.conf and restarting the service, when I generate an admin-token and go to the web page I get an error.
<paulproteus>
Are you using Firefox?
<paulproteus>
If so, try using Chromium/Chrome instead.
<paulproteus>
(That is, if the error says something about OCSP.)
<michael_s>
In Firefox I get "the connection was reset", in Chrome I get "no data received".
<paulproteus>
Oh, interesting!
<michael_s>
I have port 80 open on my firewall.
<paulproteus>
Yeah, and I think you probably have 443 open too.
<michael_s>
Right.
<paulproteus>
It can take between 0 and 2 minutes to get a certificate from GlobalSign.
<michael_s>
My log says I have the certificate.
<paulproteus>
Try now!
<paulproteus>
If you're willing to share your hostname with me, I can try to tell you what I see from here.
<michael_s>
swierczek.sandcats.io
<paulproteus>
Hmm, interesting. For me, I can't seem to reach port 80.
<michael_s>
Wait a minute, maybe I am doing something stupid with my home router.
<michael_s>
I'm an idiot, that was the problem.
<paulproteus>
1. You're not an idiot; you're clearly a very sharp person who knows many things.
<michael_s>
Thank you for your help.
<paulproteus>
2. You possibly need to adjust BASE_URL per the docs still.
<michael_s>
I did adjust that.
<michael_s>
I just forgot that I have to open 80 and 443 on my home router as well as on the server itself.
<paulproteus>
I'm seeing an infinite redirect which makes me wonder if it's set to http://thing when it should be set to https://thing
larjona_m has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<michael_s>
I'm getting the redirect too.
<paulproteus>
Can you paste your BASE_URL line into here?
<paulproteus>
And BTW thanks for coming here and asking questions.
<paulproteus>
People asking questions often identify deep bugs in Sandstorm, so if it's not working, it's not always you.
<michael_s>
You're right, my BASE_URL was http instead of https.
<paulproteus>
Yay (-:
<paulproteus>
BTW I made that mistake myself, too.
<michael_s>
Heh. I guess I'm in good company.
<michael_s>
Now to use my admin-token to setup Oauth, etc... etc... again
<paulproteus>
I also wrote the HTTPS code in Sandstorm and the Sandcats.io code to request certs from GlobalSign.
<paulproteus>
And that docs page.
<paulproteus>
So if any of it doesn't work for you, you are talking to the right person (-:

Okay, I'm all set. Wonderful. Thank you. I do have feedback, but it's not on the setup (now that I realize my problem was PBCAK). When you set up Google login, the screen that pops up with directions for getting your client key and so forth from the Google page has its labels for some of the fields incorrect.

Of course, I should just make a pull request for that. Maybe later, I've got to get back to my day job. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for reporting it! Have fun with the day job, and glad you got everything fixed!

in db.js, do we consider it better style to access Packages or this.connection.sandstormDb.collections.packages?
<zarvox>
My guess was the latter, but we seem to still have a ton of the former

<kentonv>
zarvox: you're defining a Meteor method or publish, presumably?
<kentonv>
if so, yes, the latter is preferred going forward...
<zarvox>
yeah, this is for the keybaseProfile publish
<zarvox>
and presumably all the methods on SandstormDb's prototype should eventually refer to this.collections, rather than the db.js-level globals?
<kentonv>
probably
<kentonv>
though in general I'm less concerned about intra-package references compared to inter-package references
<kentonv>
since intra-package is relatively easy to clean up if and when needed
