Regarding using Sandstorm to get MediaGoblin up and running: People have said that Sandstorm provides a sort of "sandboxed" environment for MG, one useful for testing, perhaps, but not offering the full functionality of MG.
<simpson>
yeehi1: You can think of Sandstorm's flavor of security as being like a sandbox, but with a structural design that is more reliable.
<yeehi1>
Is this true? If so, what would be needed from MG developers to grant MG full power in a Sandstorm installation?
<yeehi1>
simpson, without Sandstorm, I would never have got MG to be installed at all, let alone running.
<simpson>
I am *not* a Sandstorm person at all yet, but I imagine that MG would expose itself over Capn Proto somehow.
<yeehi1>
What is Capn Proto simpson?
<simpson>
yeehi1: Capn Proto is a serialization/RPC protocol which Sandstorm uses. It is capability-safe and some comments that I have overheard suggest that it would be the right way to offer an "unrestricted" interface.
<yeehi1>
Can you somehow install sandstorm on something like hostgator.com or some other webhosting service relatively easily? From there, it would be easy to install programs like MediaGoblin using sandstorm.
<simpson>
Hm. I don't know. The door is open for Sandstorm resellers and hosters, I guess, but I haven't investigated the technical details.

yeehi1: You would need a dedicated server or VPS.
<ocdtr_web>
Shared and reseller hosting from companies like HostGator do not allow customers to install software like Sandstorm.
<ocdtr_web>
And yes, yeehi1, Piwigo would almost certainly be possible to package for Sandstorm.

ocdtr_web - who would be a good person at #sandstorm for a Piwigo developer to contact regarding implementing Piwigo in Sandstorm?

yeehi1: The best place to ask is here. The Sandstorm core developers are here, as are most other people who have ported apps.
<Lord>
Those are two completely different projects

Flatpak's SSL is messed up.
<TimMc>
or... not intended to be accessed over https
<ocdtrekkie>
TimMc: yeehi1's Piwigo link is the same. I suspect that either yeehi is using an extension that tries to force HTTPS, or he's just assuming the sites support it when he manually types the URLs in here.
<yeehi1>
sorry ocdtrekkie. I got into the habit of using https, and hoped well known Libre sites would support it
<yeehi1>
thanks for those links, ocdtr_web

no prob :)
