<stellar-slack> <monsieurnicolas> @lab: for the catchup issue. What is the state of the server (you pasted the truncated "info" that is missing this information) ? It could be that you're not getting the consensus messages (or any message?) or simply that you cannot download from S3 for some reason.

<stellar-slack> <bartek> Reminder: Interstellar :interstellar: Live Chat starts in about an hour
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Nice emoji @bartek :)
<stellar-slack> <bartek> haha, thx :)
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> @bekk: you have no photo :(
<stellar-slack> <bartek> everyone ready? ;)
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> pret
<stellar-slack> <eva> :exclamation:
<stellar-slack> <bekk> yesss
<stellar-slack> <eva> let's DO it
<stellar-slack> <eva> welcome to everyone who's joined in for this!
<stellar-slack> <irisli> Hello
<stellar-slack> <bartek> hey @irisli
<stellar-slack> <bekk> This is our first try at a live #dev chat and we’re excited to have irisli and bartek here to answer your questions related to our newest project: interstellar.
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> welcome @zealord and @donovan and @chrishall78
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> It's nice to see you
<stellar-slack> <bekk> For some context, here’s the blog post we published together with the launch, https://www.stellar.org/blog/developer-preview-interstellar-module-system/
<stellar-slack> <bartek> I will be sharing a link to Hangouts in a few minutes where I will be presenting how to install interstellar and will try to briefly explain interstellar ecosystem.
<stellar-slack> <bekk> Irisli worked on the modular css for this project, so any questions you have about the CSS framework can be directed to her. We’re calling that project Solar: https://github.com/stellar/solar
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Yay!
<stellar-slack> <bartek> waiting for a couple more people
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> I am standing by
<stellar-slack> <bekk> While we’re waiting, I have a couple of questions…;)
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Oh and @garth is here too--Hi garth
koolhead17 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<stellar-slack> <bekk> I’m curious what each of you — Bartek and Iris — found to be the most difficult problem to solve in creating the interstellar modular system. Can you talk us through how you got around it?
<stellar-slack> <hcf27> I am on the youtube channel waiting :)
<stellar-slack> <bekk> hi @hcf27 thanks for joining!
<stellar-slack> <eva> woot!
<stellar-slack> <bartek> for me it was definitely making Interstellar modular. it’s easy to develop a single application but when you are trying to create an _ecosystem_ you need to think from a final developer perspective all the time.
<stellar-slack> <hcf27> @bekk: hey
<stellar-slack> <bekk> Can you give an example of a design decision that you made to enable that kind of ecosystem modularity?
<stellar-slack> <irisli> For the css side, the hardest part was figuring out how to create a css system that made it possible to write html and css easy for others to overwrite. The css framework is designed around the premise that others would use these modules and change them.
<stellar-slack> <bekk> So your design goal was “make it easy to overwrite.” How did you achieve that in the ned?
<stellar-slack> <bekk> *end, not ned ;)
<stellar-slack> <garth> Hi @vanessa
<stellar-slack> <bartek> there were actually hundreds of such decision in the process. but to me the most interesting/exciting decision as a whole was deciding which package manager use for Intersteller _or_ how to make it modular without package manager. finally we decided to use NPM. I remember reading a great document from NPM encouraging to use their plaform for such purposes. I will publish a link shortly.
<stellar-slack> <monsieurnicolas> @bohdan: make sure to follow all instructions from https://github.com/stellar/stellar-core/blob/master/INSTALL-Windows.txt ; in particular items related to making sure your PATH variable is setup properly
<stellar-slack> <bartek> adding custom metadata to package.json file seems to be very interesting concept. maybe we will use it in a future.
<stellar-slack> <bartek> > 2. Use package.json for metadata > If your tool needs metadata to make it work, put it in package.json. It would be rude to do this without asking, but we’re inviting you to do it, so go ahead. The registry is a schemaless store, so every field you add is on an equal footing to all the others, and we won’t strip out or complain about new fields (as long as they don’t conflict with existing ones).
<stellar-slack> <bartek> @hcf27: hey!
<stellar-slack> <bekk> I’m thinking we can start the live demo on youtube...
<stellar-slack> <bekk> @hcf27 are you ready? ;)
<stellar-slack> <bekk> @bartek are you ready?
<stellar-slack> <irisli> Making things easy to overwrite was achieved by making sure that there are conventions in place to write css that is overwritable
<stellar-slack> <irisli> such as not using utilities and keeping specificity low
<stellar-slack> <bartek> hey guys, is it working for you?
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> I see a stellar rocket
<stellar-slack> <bartek> it’s seems there will be a bit of delay
<stellar-slack> <bartek> can you hear me?
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Can't hear no :(
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Sometimes I have to unplug and replug my headphones
<stellar-slack> <bekk> @bartek i also cannot hear you. i am not using headphones
<stellar-slack> <bartek> do you see me?
<stellar-slack> <bekk> yes
<stellar-slack> <bartek> but don’t hear me?
<stellar-slack> <eva> Google hangouts sound can be ridiculously finicky - usually for me it starts working if I plug in an external mic (I don't know why, but there you go ...)
<stellar-slack> <bartek> ok, I will try to restart hangouts
<stellar-slack> <bekk> Some technical difficulties, folks, but sit tight….
<stellar-slack> <bartek> @hcf27: any questions so far, I will try to respond here
<stellar-slack> <irisli> And also, feel free to ask any solar css questions too and even during @bartek's presentation
<stellar-slack> <hcf27> @bartek: cant hear...
<stellar-slack> <bekk> @hcf27 we’re going to try to launch a new google hangout on air...
<stellar-slack> <bekk> http://youtu.be/9DTkMvLNKOw
<stellar-slack> <bekk> well folks, we have some sound issues. we are going to continue with the chat and hope to do the video at 10am
<stellar-slack> <eva> sorry all!
<stellar-slack> <bekk> so let’s chat it up and we’ll hope to be able to do some live coding and demo’ing at the top of the hour ;)
<stellar-slack> <bekk> I’ve got a question!
<stellar-slack> <bekk> What are some “low hanging fruit” that would be great candidates for community contributions, on both Solar and Interstellar? @irisli and @bartek
<stellar-slack> <wynlim> people can try to develop their own themes and through that, poke holes on solar, it is still a really young project, same for interstellar, perhaps develop their own modules, or own applications
<stellar-slack> <bekk> And, as a follow up, what’s next? What will @irisli and @bartek be adding to IMS and Solar in the coming weeks?
pixelb has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<stellar-slack> <wynlim> since bartek is probably trying to figure out video, I'll answer in his place. He'll be developing more core modules to build out functionality for Interstellar.
<stellar-slack> <bartek> http://youtu.be/CMYLQBjE0dQ
<stellar-slack> <eva> wooot
<stellar-slack> <wynlim> it works now!
<stellar-slack> <irisli> Apart from documentation, there aren't many items considered "low hanging fruit". However, since solar css is still very new, it's ideas are still in development and contributers can shape the future of how solar works
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Yay!
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> Hi Bartek!
<stellar-slack> <bekk> Hurrah!
<stellar-slack> <bartek> @hcf27: ok, video seems to be working. wanna join now? :)
<stellar-slack> <irisli> as for the future, more core components and theming capabilities are coming. A tool to view how all the components work and are themed will also come soon
<stellar-slack> <bekk> We’d like to invite everyone here in the channel to join Bartek for a live demo of interstellar: http://youtu.be/CMYLQBjE0dQ
<stellar-slack> <vanessa> I know some folks may not be able to access YouTube--feel free to ask your question in Slack
<stellar-slack> <bekk> Follow the link, then click in the bottom left corner to join the hangout,
<stellar-slack> <bartek> 8 viewers, can we do 10? ;)
<stellar-slack> <bartek> let’s start at 10 am PST maybe
<stellar-slack> <bekk> Sure, yeah. That’s in 5 minutes. In the meantime, Bartek maybe you can give us a “preview” and let us know what you plan to present on the channel.

<stellar-slack> <bekk> that was awesome!
<stellar-slack> <scott> thanks!
<stellar-slack> <wynlim> thanks @bartek!
<stellar-slack> <bartek> thanks :)
<stellar-slack> <bartek> any questions? if not, I’m going to finish a live stream
<stellar-slack> <bartek> ok
