<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> are u suggesting having no credit history is a bad thing?
<stellar-slack> <dzham> very US-centric
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> yeah, maybe, I've never lived in the US. don't really understand the US loan / debt / investors / etc culture
<stellar-slack> <dzham> Neither do I. Never had any debt either
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> I'm kinda hyped for this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgqG3ITMv1Q ^_^

<stellar-slack> <eva> @buhrmi and @dzham, re: my presentation, I’m suggesting that the inability to access credit limits opportunity
<stellar-slack> <eva> the idea of a credit score is Western terminology, but what I mean by that is a way to tell if someone is “creditworthy.”
<stellar-slack> <eva> The talk tries to flesh out why something like access to credit is so important for being able to improve your own life
<stellar-slack> <eva> the personal story I start out with is about how I would never have been able to go to college if I hadn’t had access to a student loan.
<stellar-slack> <eva> And without college, I’d certainly not have had the opportunities I’ve had since
<stellar-slack> <eva> Hopefully that helps clarify - I’d never want to suggest that the world must adopt a US system. The main point of the talk is to suggest that every culture needs different types of systems to access economic opportunity - hence, why Stellar is awesome to build on :)
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> i just think it's a bit funny cause the rest of the world is looking awkwardly at the US cause people should not be required to go into debt to educate themselves

<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> education usually comes free
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> vote bernie :)
<stellar-slack> <eva> I mean, I’m the first to say that education *should* be free, but that isn’t the current state of the world. So til we get there, people do need some capital to get started. Even in lower-income countries, it isn’t typically free.
<stellar-slack> <eva> and education is just one reason that someone might need access to credit - also wanting to start your own business, or even just buy or rent a home.
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> mhh can't really follow but I think it's okay lol
<stellar-slack> <joyce> yes, eva's point is that credit is an important part of being able to invest in one's own future.
<stellar-slack> <joyce> when you have limited assets and no credit, you can't do anything but live day to day. if you have credit, you can do more upfront.
<stellar-slack> <joyce> ex: farmers being able to get a loan for fertilizer
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> yeah but credit is usually something you "earn"
<stellar-slack> <joyce> except where you cannot
<stellar-slack> <joyce> and that is her point
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> like totally undeveloped countries?
<stellar-slack> <eva> exactly what Joyce is saying - the trouble is that in many places - actually including in the US - some folks don’t have the chance to earn it
<stellar-slack> <eva> the talk goes into why
<stellar-slack> <eva> have you clicked into the youtube video linked on the bottom of the slides
<stellar-slack> <eva> ?
<stellar-slack> <eva> it’s bad visual quality, but the audio’s fine
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> gonna check it out ^^
<stellar-slack> <eva> it might make more sense in the context of the actual talk
<stellar-slack> <eva> sweet!
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> didn't see the link
<stellar-slack> <eva> oh, it’s in the talk description. Here ya go :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y3rEvvUUoo&index=1&list=PLGQI7qUXRrQFE0tXIaTqp4laes-cCMJek
<stellar-slack> <eva> re: why it’s “focused on gender” that’s answered in the second section of the talk, “why women”
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> hehe
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> i wanna make a counterpoint
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> women are awesome with money
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> but
<stellar-slack> <buhrmi> men too !
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: take a look at this http://s1.postimg.org/59vqj3nb3/Sin_t_tulo.png
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: but still i don't know how to do it, because i tried adding http://reveal.me|reveal.me, https://reveal.me/federation, https://reveal.me/reverseFederation and also the address
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: ooooohhhh now i cannnnnn yeyyyyyyyyyy
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: i'm so happy!!!
<stellar-slack> <eva> hahah glad to hear it! Have fun :)
<stellar-slack> <eva> ps what’s your username on Reveal?
<stellar-slack> <eva> I’m Eva ther
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: I'm vortex, hey is this normal? it says error cancel/retry http://postimg.org/image/7167pp7lh/
<stellar-slack> <eva> not normal, no - you may want to ask in #dev about that, might be something up with the network
<stellar-slack> <eva> I’d give it another shot first though
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: when i press retry it says "establishing trustlines..." and then show error, it's inmediately
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: can you try in your account? :)
<stellar-slack> <eva> it works just fine for me
<stellar-slack> <eva> not to say that you’re necessarily doing something wrong, but at least we know it isn’t a universal issue
<stellar-slack> <eva> just to confirm, you’re typing http://reveal.me|reveal.me into the “add gateway” bar, right?
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: :( wow, should i register a new account?
<stellar-slack> <eva> not sure - you could try that, just to see if it’s a problem with just your wallet
<stellar-slack> <eva> I honestly don’t know much about that error message, but again, you might want to ask in #dev
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: well, it's not the account
<stellar-slack> <eva> :(
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: :(
<stellar-slack> <eva> did you ask in #dev?
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: not yet, i will try one more thing :P
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @eva: didn't work, i will ask now :| :P
<stellar-slack> <lumenpay> @mr_selenio your accounts must have 50 Stellars , if you add a gateway
<stellar-slack> <lumenpay> @mr_selenio send 50 stellars to you acouunt,and retry
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> are you sure that is the reason? i do't want to spend money in vain
<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> @lumenpay: ?
<stellar-slack> <dzham> I’m 95% sure that 20 STR is enough for creating the account, and for setting one trustline. You’ll need a bit more if you want to do trades though. So maybe 30?

<stellar-slack> <mr_selenio> I will deposite 100 STR anyways
