<whitequark> cr1901_modern: yes, clifford does that sort of thing quite a bit
<cr1901_modern> whitequark: I would imagine so, but (assuming I can get the EDIF generation to work) Idk whether the bug would be in yosys or Migen if I found a case where the same Migen code generated two different behaviors for migen => verilog or migen => edif

<rqou> so i just found out that i might potentially have an excuse to travel to China/HK for a while (aka i can get my parents to pay for the plane ticket :P )
<rqou> whitequark: potential meetup?
<rqou> needs a bunch of schedule juggling though

<rqou> hrm, i think i found a possible reason why the cable modem here is pretty unreliable
<rqou> so there's about 60Vac between the cable shield and the chassis of a nearby computer
<rqou> (yes, it's real and not phantom; you can feel it with your fingers)
<rqou> (so it's not capacitive coupling)

<whitequark> rqou: except I'm not in HK right now actually
<whitequark> as for 60Vac
<whitequark> so someone connected it to Vmains/2?
<whitequark> been there seen that
<whitequark> killed a modem accidentally

<Guest85881> are you sure it's not a particularily high-value capacitor (or one getting bad)?
Guest85881 is now known as gruetzkopf
<gruetzkopf> better.
<gruetzkopf> i've had some cases float at ~115V (europe). most of them go to zero even over 10M of a multimeter, but some were more stubborn (milliamp range of ground return current after grounded)

<azonenberg> gruetzkopf: i have seen worse
<azonenberg> cable shield at 120Vrms low impedance
<gruetzkopf> yep
<azonenberg> A friend had a TV plugged into it
<azonenberg> on a 2-prong plug
<azonenberg> the entire chassis of the TV was floating at mains
<azonenberg> then he plugged in an HDMI cable
<nats`> i've had some cases float at ~115V (europe). <= 250
<azonenberg> and ran it to his new desktop computer
<azonenberg> Which had a grounded plug
<azonenberg> there was visible arcing, when i got there to investigate the end of the cable had carbon residue on it
<azonenberg> this was like a dead short from shield to mains, not a little bit of capacitive coupling or something
<azonenberg> you could have powered a light bulb off that shield
