could be two windows? if they have layers to spare, you could do a window on layer 1 and another window on layer 2, to get a two-lobed shape

sadly windows on the genesis are not as flexible as windows on the SNES — except for the part where having transparent pixels in your window makes one of the scroll planes disappear, which is how Herzog Zwei and Dragon Ball Z do vertical split screen
