ssvb, yes, Windows USB driver install is a nightmare. Each port needs to install the driver independently--at least that's still true as of Win7. Unplug a device from one port and windows has to 'install drivers' for that device for that port.

hehe
<KotCzarny>
yeah, at least drivers are usually present and cached
<willmore>
KotCzarny, that's the one saving grace.
<willmore>
Still, it's silly to see the messages when you just plugged a known device into a different port.
<KotCzarny>
one time per port, if you dont juggle devices (or usb hubs) often its not that noticable
<willmore>
Sure, but for things like USB sticks or where you have a bunch of ports in a cluster/hub and you don't feel like remembering which port you plugged the USB<>serial device into last time....
<willmore>
Eventually it gets installed for all ports.
<KotCzarny>
yup
<willmore>
And then another cheap serial chip comes out and the dance begins again. ;)
<willmore>
fortunately, I don't do much development on Windows, so I don't have to deal with it much.
<KotCzarny>
if its cheap enough it will have same sn
<KotCzarny>
same
<willmore>
Still needs installed on every port. ;(

guys, do you have any idea on how to use an a10 device without the power button? it broke off some years ago, tried soldering it again but the tracks kinda broke
<EduRenesto>
i can turn it on using the charger and the reset button, but that's annoying and I can't enter FEL mode

<oliv3r>
EduRenesto: there quite often is a 'recover' button aka fel button
<oliv3r>
the power button actually connects to the PMIC (AXP209) usually
<oliv3r>
so it tecnically controlst he PMCI and not the A10
<EduRenesto>
thx man
<EduRenesto>
i'll look into it

idk the boot priority at the moment but thx

Hi! Did anybody try the official FreeBSD 11.0 sd card images for Allwinner boards? I attempted to boot two Banana Pi's with it, but after U-boot hands over to the kernel, I just see a weird flicker on the screen and after that the machine doesn't do anything anymore and the network connection is down (FreeBSD says SSH is preconfigured on these images).
<bpi-user>
Now, I know this is *linux*-sunxi and I don't wanna go into debugging. But I just wanted to hear whether anybody tried these images with success and whether it's actually worth spending any more time on this.

bpi-user: do you have a UART cable for serial console? it helps a lot when trying to diagnose such problems - there could be kernel output that you'd miss otherwise
station has joined #linux-sunxi
<bpi-user>
NiteHawk: I don't. I was thinking about getting one for debugging. Yet, I also wonder whether it's worth it. With linux images (esp. Debian based) I never had any issues and if I needed screen output, simeple framebuffer was sufficient.

bpi-user, yeah - just make sure you're not running a getty on the serial port
