<Pascallj>
Hi all, I want to port mainline Linux to my old Chinese tablet (Topwise A721) but I can't get the screen to work properly
<Pascallj>
I got all the kernel messages on the screen but somewhere near the end of the kernel booting the screen flashes briefly and all the text disappear
<Pascallj>
I tried to identify what causes this by using boot_delay to read the line before the screen goes off but seems like there is nothing related there
<Pascallj>
The backlight of the screen is still on but I just can't get any output to appear (including the final kernel messages)
<Pascallj>
Any idea where to investigate next?
<BenG83>
Pascallj, can you upload a log from your serial console?
<fredl-pc>
But my mainstream u-boot does not have 'ums'
<beeble>
fredl-pc: CONFIG_CMD_USB_MASS_STORAGE
<fredl-pc>
where do I add that beeble?
<fredl-pc>
in the defconfig for that board, right?
<beeble>
in your .config
<beeble>
or do a make menuconfig
<fredl-pc>
ah, yeah that, thanks
<beeble>
and search for CMD_USB_MASS_STORAGE (you can search by pressing /)
<fredl-pc>
hmm, did that but still says: Unknown command 'ums' - try 'help'
<fredl-pc>
interesting
<fredl-pc>
I thought I could add it through adding it in defconfig file as well, then make distclean, make .... ..._defconfig
<beeble>
if you put it into your defconfig or .config by hand you have to add the CONFIG_ prefix
<beeble>
you did that_
<beeble>
?
<fredl-pc>
yup
<fredl-pc>
CONFIG_CMD_USB_MASS_STORAGE=y
<beeble>
and you should have a cmd/usb_mass_storage.o after compiling
<fredl-pc>
yeah I added it manually to .config, somehow doesn't seem to like that line in defconfig
<fredl-pc>
get compile error now in usb_mass_storage.c, hmmm
<fredl-pc>
/root/u-boot/cmd/usb_mass_storage.c:177: undefined reference to `g_dnl_register'
<beeble>
you need to have a gadget driver enabled
<beeble>
drivers -> usb support -> take a look around there

f11f12: yes, HPD works on H3, H5 and A64, so it should work on R40 too, since AW reused same HDMI PHY
<jernej>
the reason why AW didn't use interrupts is that it may be missed (some jitter)
hanetzer has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<jernej>
I noticed that too, but it occurs rarely enough to be torerable
<jernej>
maybe 1 in 20 plug-ins
<jernej>
I guess it depends on HW design too
<jernej>
and most of the time hdmi is plugged in anyway

jernej: I have a R40 board with HDMI and LVDS, I had to modify the existing divers because the R40 has a different mux/tcon as the other SoCs.
<f11f12>
jernej: the synopsys dw-hdmi bridge is disabled (hdmi->disabled). Can I force the bridge to enabled state?

f11f12: I wrote R40 TCON TOP driver as part of H6 series, but it is currently out of tree
<jernej>
and you should worry about disabled state if you connected everything correctly
<jernej>
and wrote DT correctly

did you set HDMI irq to 58?
sunshavi has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<f11f12>
jernej: yes, it's 90-32, right?
<jernej>
yes
<f11f12>
jernej: is the HHPD pin all that triggers the HPD irq? Should it have some external resistors?
<jernej>
that's the important pin, yes, but I'm not sure how it should be connected. Check for example some H3 design, some orangepi for example
<jernej>
it should be the same, I think
<f11f12>
GIC-0 90 Level 1ee0000.hdmi stays at 0 (/proc/interrupts)
<jernej>
can you push your changes somewhere so I can check what did you do? I think it will be quicker that way

jernej: Do you need R40-gbe as patch?
<jernej>
I will only check code, not run it, so as you wish
<f11f12>
jernej: sorry, I don't get SRAM C. Can you please explain?
clemens3_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<jernej>
on A64 and H6, DE2/DE3 driver has to claim SRAM C region for it's own usage
<jernej>
otherwise, DE2/DE3 memory mapped region (at address 0x01000000)
<jernej>
has some probably random values which can't be changed
<f11f12>
jernej: R40 probably has to allocate some cma region too, but as long as I don;t have a /dev/fb0 I didn't care. HDMI refuses to work because the PHY does not turn on.
<jernej>
claiming can be done with just one bit flip in 0x01c00004
montjoie has quit [Quit: leaving]
<jernej>
f11f12: this SRAM C thing means if DE2 registers are accessible or not
<f11f12>
At 0x1000000 there are a few (4-6) registers which I can write. I've got the DE2.0 document from the wiki, but that does not cover the R40/V40 :-(
<jernej>
and if they can be set or not
<f11f12>
ok, let me check what is at 1c00004
<jernej>
bit 24 has to be 0
<jernej>
that DE2 document covers all SoCs, it just doesn't explicitly mentions R40
<f11f12>
jernej: ok, I assumed it would be similar to the a83t (guess)
<f11f12>
Value at address 0x1C00004 (0xb6fb6004): 0x1300
<jernej>
I think it's ok
<f11f12>
According to the docs, bit 24 is unused. I can write it to '1', but what does it do? And when should I set it?
<jernej>
btw, you don't need deassert two resets and two bus gates on phy
<jernej>
another one is done in controller
<f11f12>
that was a guess.
<f11f12>
ah, I see.
<jernej>
since bit 24 is 0, you should do anything
<jernej>
regarding SRAM C
<f11f12>
Well the clocking and reset is a bit hacked at the moment, but I check the clock and reset bits after kernel boot.
<jernej>
did you add "allwinner,sun8i-r40-display-engine" to sun4i-drv.c ?
