Hello Doc, dos, wpwrak.
<cg132>
Got a question for ya if you have a moment.
<cg132>
About the paypal secret police. =P
<DocScrutinizer05>
I never heard of PP secret police
<cg132>
hehehe
<cg132>
just an expression.
<cg132>
Ran across xoom, a paypal company.
<cg132>
Going to attempt bank transfer.
<cg132>
Every had any success with them?
<DocScrutinizer05>
err nope
<cg132>
Well, I'm missing a few details before I can proceed.
<cg132>
might need to msg on the side.....
<cg132>
To ensure the safety and security of every customer's transaction with Xoom, our Customer Verification and Compliance Teams carefully review each transaction on our service. During our review of your recent transaction, XZ96FEGT, we found it necessary to cancel your transaction, in accordance with our regulatory and compliance policies.
<cg132>
xoom hates me
<DocScrutinizer05>
isn't xoom only for "send money to your family and friends"?
<cg132>
You're a friend. ;)
<cg132>
It looked promising from what I saw.
<cg132>
Deposit to any Euro bank account in Germany, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including Deutsche Bank, Postbank and Commerzbank. Most money transfers available in two business days.
<cg132>
I was sold on their lies!
<DocScrutinizer05>
they don't accept companies as your friends

they don't accept companies as your friends
<cg132>
I was j/k
<cg132>
said 'any euro bank account in germany'
<DocScrutinizer05>
that's why they insist on real name
<cg132>
didn't know it wouldn't accept business transactions.
<cg132>
Bank of Americas transfer fees are reasonable.
<cg132>
I'm going to see what they have to say.
<DocScrutinizer05>
good
<DocScrutinizer05>
xoom - been there, seen that
<DocScrutinizer05>
iirc
<cg132>
transfer wise = fail
<cg132>
xoom = fail
<cg132>
going to keep trying tho
<cg132>
western union = fail
<cg132>
moneygram = fail
<DocScrutinizer05>
ok, (not ok), Deutsche Bank does NOT accept cash payments outside of Germany (even if you could find a DB office anywhere) neither directly nor from other banks. Bank of america should be able to do transfers account to account to DB, but even if you had a DB account in USA (unclear if that's even possible) their fees would also be some 40 bucks FROM DB-USA to DB-GERMANY!!!
<DocScrutinizer05>
actually they think EVERY bank in USA should be able to do transfers account->account based on SEPA/SWIFT/EBAN
<DocScrutinizer05>
IBAN even
<DocScrutinizer05>
Bank of america is only ATM cooperation partner
<DocScrutinizer05>
no special thing with payments to accounts of DB
<cg132>
Yup yup! Decent rates for bank of america.
<DocScrutinizer05>
honestly, try transferwise
<cg132>
i have
<cg132>
they failed
<cg132>
Unfortunately there is not any more information we’re able to provide to you at this time. When an account is deactivated for security reasons
<cg132>
we’re able to look into the matter once more and see if reactivation is possible, but I’m afraid at this point we’re not able to relay anything else to you.
<cg132>
that was transferwise
<cg132>
8 emails later
<cg132>
No information.
<DocScrutinizer05>
sorry
<DocScrutinizer05>
no idea then
<DocScrutinizer05>
maybe send pigeon
<cg132>
rofl
<cg132>
It's cool. You've been very helpful Doc.
<cg132>
You've given me ideas....
<cg132>
and new roads to travel down.
<DocScrutinizer05>
I think you should be able to find tests of NGOs or whatever, who list bank fees for international payments
<DocScrutinizer05>
I'm no US resident, so I have a hard time knowing what's serious and what's just clickbait
<DocScrutinizer05>
if you find something decent, please let me know
<cg132>
There's a lot of organizations in usa willing to send money to Deutsche Bank if the account had a legal first and last name associated with the account.
<cg132>
The problem is business accounts.
<cg132>
They make those difficult. ;)
<DocScrutinizer05>
this seems to be a *very* common problem for US customers
<cg132>
Yep, i'll keep trying.
<cg132>
I will let you know for sure.
<cg132>
No doubt about it.
<DocScrutinizer05>
cg132: for SEPA/IBAN the name is totally irrelevant, the receiving bank will not even check if it's there at all
<DocScrutinizer05>
and the sender bank has no way to find out if the account is commercial or private
<cg132>
No, but the organization sending it will.
<cg132>
A name like neo900 for the first name
<DocScrutinizer05>
neither if the name is correct
<cg132>
immediately rejects the transaction.
<cg132>
No names on the planet contain digits.
<DocScrutinizer05>
you can place Ronald McDonald there and it will still arrive
<cg132>
hahaha!
<cg132>
I should try it!
<DocScrutinizer05>
try first name Neo Last name Ninehundreds
<cg132>
:x
<cg132>
I will....
<DocScrutinizer05>
neynhandred
<DocScrutinizer05>
;-P
<cg132>
We're sorry, we're unable to process your payment at this time. Please try again later.
<cg132>
i think i worn out my welcome with xoom
<cg132>
going to try western union
<cg132>
western union doesn't like neo ninehundred either :/
pagurus` has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05>
use my name
<cg132>
Doctor Scrutinizer?
<DocScrutinizer05>
it's perfectly ok for that account as well
<DocScrutinizer05>
no
<DocScrutinizer05>
I said 'name', not 'nick'
<cg132>
sorry
pagurus has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<cg132>
i dont know your name.
<DocScrutinizer05>
huh?
<DocScrutinizer05>
see impressum
<cg132>
:o
<cg132>
Hans-Georg Reisenweber
<cg132>
i asked about that earlier
<cg132>
:/
<DocScrutinizer05>
and I answered see inmpressum earlier, no?
<cg132>
Well.... I said should I use Hans, you said use neo900
<DocScrutinizer05>
nope, that was a communication error, sorry
<cg132>
It's fine.
<cg132>
No problem.
<cg132>
trying hans :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
I said "the account is 'Neo900'" - I never said the impressum doesn't have my name
<cg132>
I'm sorry.
<cg132>
Not sure if the name was associated with the account.
<DocScrutinizer05>
it somewhat is
<DocScrutinizer05>
but not in the way your bank seems to assume. Actually name is irrelevant for IBAN/SWITFT transfers
<DocScrutinizer05>
but with my name nobody at DB will frown, even when they look at the name (which they never do)
<cg132>
If I sent it to ronald mcdonald would your bank actually deposit it there? Wouldn't they stop and ask.... 'Do we have an account for Ronald? Ronalds not on this account.'
<DocScrutinizer05>
no
<DocScrutinizer05>
IBAN has a 2-digit checksum
<DocScrutinizer05>
that's all that counts
<cg132>
well,
<cg132>
now western union hates me
<cg132>
my account has been deactivated there too.
<cg132>
No one likes playing with money.
<cg132>
Better safe than sorry.
<DocScrutinizer05>
I don't know what's wrong with your accounts or your banks over there, I'm pretty sure Neo900 account is 100% clean and trustwirthy
<cg132>
rofl
<cg132>
My account works fine too....
<cg132>
Oh wells.
<cg132>
Oh! A fraud alert email.
<cg132>
lol
<cg132>
is that whats holding this up?
<DocScrutinizer05>
I can't tell. It#s you who received the mail
<DocScrutinizer05>
the fraud for sure is not related to destination account
<DocScrutinizer05>
rather to (failed) transactions initiated at your side
<cg132>
yea yea
<cg132>
bank was flagging as fraud
<DocScrutinizer05>
your bank
<DocScrutinizer05>
?
<cg132>
Yes
<cg132>
but seriously.....
<cg132>
xoom was the only one to flag as fraud
<cg132>
:/
<DocScrutinizer05>
I don't know if i'm happy or scared that our banks generally don't do such plausibility checks
<DocScrutinizer05>
we got ITAN instead
<DocScrutinizer05>
except with PayPal which act exactly similar to what you describe
<cg132>
i've marked xoom as my transactions, had the freeze on my account lifted, tried xoom again, failed again... :-\
<cg132>
<sigh>
<DocScrutinizer05>
web interface with weak password, weak security, NO transaction authorization by any means, just plausibility checks
<DocScrutinizer05>
please forget xoom
<DocScrutinizer05>
they are evil
<DocScrutinizer05>
we been there, seen all that
<DocScrutinizer05>
twice actually, iirc
<cg132>
So
<cg132>
i think what i'm going to do.....
<DocScrutinizer05>
>>Money Transfer - Send Money Online | Xoom, a PayPal Service<< honestly what do you expect?
<cg132>
is let my bank account and the fraud department chill out.
<cg132>
We'll have to try again tomorrow.....
<cg132>
or next week....
<cg132>
or something.
<cg132>
I think i've kicked too many hornets nests today.
<DocScrutinizer05>
what's wrong with direct transfer by your bank via IBAN/SWIFT to Neo900 account?
<cg132>
well the rates were higher for one thing, but they didn't like not having a name either.
<DocScrutinizer05>
I think the worst thing to happen is they are bold with fees
<cg132>
bold fees!
<cg132>
thats one way of putting it
<cg132>
highway robbery was what I was thinking. ;-)
<cg132>
But thats the next idea.
<cg132>
Going to walk in there monday.....
<DocScrutinizer05>
10 EUR aka 15 USD is probably as good as it gets
<cg132>
se what we can do.
<DocScrutinizer05>
if your bank charges more than 20, I'd maybe try to find a better bank, better deal
<cg132>
they will honnor current exchange rates
<cg132>
*honor*
<cg132>
but the fee was about almost 50euros
<cg132>
i found others now
<DocScrutinizer05>
we received 5 digit payments from UAE with a 10EUR fee
<cg132>
40 from bank of america
<cg132>
28 from xoom
<cg132>
yeah um
<cg132>
10,000 +
<cg132>
they usually have some benefits
<cg132>
they have business account
<cg132>
and probably pay a yearly bill
<cg132>
i'm just a private poor monkey
<cg132>
with too few dollars in his account
<cg132>
:P
<cg132>
you've given me some ideas Doc.
<cg132>
I'm going to pursue bank of america
<cg132>
since they're associated with Deutsche Bank
