<DocScrutinizer05> suckers!! https://dev.ti.com/about#about_pinmux works without windows aiui, but it doesn't support the SoC I'm interested in
<DocScrutinizer05> I prolly need to buy windows and install it to a VM, just to run this damn pinmux tool

<wpwrak> how is it a bad idea ? you should get one or two of these :)
<whitequark> plan 9? seriously?
<wpwrak> just the plan 9 bit seems willfully nonsensical
infobot has joined #qi-hardware
<wpwrak> whitequark: guess it's the genious / idiot correlation again
<whitequark> otherwise, uhhhhh
<wpwrak> meh, genius
<whitequark> a zynq-7000 devboard for $189 retail
<whitequark> instead of $500 maybe
<whitequark> with pretty much the same featureset?
<wpwrak> 16 MHz slower. unusable :)
<whitequark> 1/2 as much RAM and no SATA, alright
<whitequark> is that worth waiting five months?
<whitequark> a kickstarter makes sense when you want to start a business
<whitequark> the amusing part is there /are/ great kickstarters. the hackrf thing, or that fault injection thing
<whitequark> but he fails to bring these, somehow
<wpwrak> it's sufficient to get rjeffries excited. what more could you wish for ? :)
<rjeffries_> that's too funny
<rjeffries_> I don't give a damn about the Plan 9 bit. sheesh
<rjeffries_> is the board relativly open hardware in your opinion, or not?
<whitequark> as much as FPGA boards go
<rjeffries_> side note, unrelated: I use CIRC Chrome extension. Not bad. It pops up notifications in the lower right corner of my screen when I am mentioned. That's rather cool.
<rjeffries_> womeone was working on magic sauce to open FPGA development. Trying to remember who. LOL he also was a moving force behind Ben Nanopnote. But went POOF.
<larsc> there are many different zynq with different number in fpga resources, this board has the one with the lowest
<wpwrak> he adopted a demeanour congruent to his ambitions :)

<larsc> well you can blink a LED, that's for sure
<rjeffries_> amused
<larsc> depends all on what you thing is interesting
<larsc> it is certainly larger than a CPLD
<larsc> but is is multiple times smaller than the larger FPGA
<larsc> factor 10 maybe
<rjeffries_> so e.g. not nearly enough resources to accelerate e.g. encryption? and now, moving on
<rjeffries_> which is why I asked.
<larsc> depends on how fast you want to get and how much data at once
<larsc> it's all relative
