<briangonzalez> I have a bundle install that is taking over 2 hours
<weaksauce> local?
<weaksauce> or remote?
<briangonzalez> hmmmm...
<briangonzalez> well, I am running `bundle install` on a brand new vagrant box
<briangonzalez> the "Resolving dependencies..." portion takes a verrrry long time
<weaksauce> did your ssh session stall?
<briangonzalez> no, I mean, it will eventually finish
<weaksauce> how big is your gemfile?
<briangonzalez> around 70 gems
<briangonzalez> that doesn't seem too bad, right?
<weaksauce> not terrible
<weaksauce> have you tried bundle install --verbose
<briangonzalez> yea, does a lot of redirects it seems
<briangonzalez> I've also tried with "--jobs 4"
<weaksauce> can you put your gemfile on pastebin?
<weaksauce> I can try it here
<briangonzalez> sure
<briangonzalez> there some git deps which you might not have access to
<weaksauce> ok
<weaksauce> I'll comment those out
<briangonzalez> weaksauce: sent
ixti has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<briangonzalez> L125, L129 are ones I don't think will work for you
<weaksauce> yeah
<weaksauce> I commented out a few of the path ones and the repos that I didn't have access to
<weaksauce> it seems to be chugging along
<weaksauce> past the resolving dependencies stage and well into the installing portion
<briangonzalez> hmmmmmmm
<briangonzalez> ok, so what would be causing that?
<briangonzalez> Gemfile.lock?
<weaksauce> possibly yeah
* weaksauce not an expert on bundler by any stretch of the imagination though

<briangonzalez> weaksauce: did it finish for you?
<weaksauce> it crashed about halfway through
<weaksauce> couldn't build the mysql native gem
<briangonzalez> ah, ok
<briangonzalez> thanks for trying sir
<briangonzalez> need to hit the road for a bit, I'll be back soonish
<briangonzalez> thanks again
<weaksauce> no problem

<briangonzalez> anyone?
<Radar> briangonzalez: I don't see a Gemfile anywhere.
<Radar> There are a lot of gems in there that don't specify version dependencies
<briangonzalez> some local/git repos may need to be commented out...
<Radar> Bundler might be taking a long time because it's trying all the versions of all of those gems to find a match to make it happy
<briangonzalez> so if we pin down the versions, it might go faster?
<Radar> yes
<briangonzalez> I never thought about that, thanks Radar!
<briangonzalez> Does the "~>" versioning do something similar in terms of slowness?
<Radar> briangonzalez: np. I encountered it ages ago in a gemfile that didn't lock down Rails. I saw in Bundler that it tried going through each of the Rails versions from the ancient ones up... that was fun :)
<Radar> briangonzalez: depends on how restrictive you are with the ~>
<briangonzalez> Radar, awesome. Can't wait to test that out.
<Radar> Good luck!
<briangonzalez> Thanks!

<briangonzalez> if it's present, should bundler skip over the 'Resolving dependencies...' step?

<arturhoo> Hi there, could someone please tell me if when running `bundle install --path {location}`, from multiple Ruby versions, specifying the same location, using gems with extensions, will result in single installation of ordinary gems, and per-ruby-version installation for those that use extension? Relevant issue: https://github.com/rubygems/rubygems/pull/596 Thanks!

postmodern has joined #bundler
<postmodern> should you commit bundler's binstubs?
<postmodern> rails4 seems to be encouraging this practice, but it seems kind of pointless if everyone runs `bundle install --binstubs`
