<rb2k> is there a way to update the Gemfile.lock version of a single gem WITHOUT installing it
<rb2k> bundle update something —local
<rb2k> is what I currently do
<rb2k> but that installs it :-/
<Zero_Chaos> rb2k: it it is already installed it doesn't install it :-)
<rb2k> yes, but it is not
<rb2k> it’s an internal gem that we push into puppet. We use bundler to manage gems on the server / resolve all of the dependencies /…
<rb2k> there is a rake task that builds that gem, moves it into place and updates the Gemfile/Gemfile.lock that is shipped with puppet
<rb2k> the server will then just do a bundle install —system
<rb2k> (and —local since we move it to vendor/cache)
<rb2k> this all works fine
<rb2k> besides the part where I would JUST like to update the Gemfile.lock and NOT install that gem on my local laptop

<happytux_> hi
<happytux_> Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.
<happytux_> So building native gem extensions can only be done as root/sudo?
<happytux_> hi
<happytux_> Now I am eager to know _what_ is wrong about this: http://pastebin.com/2uXN7YUx
