Thanks

Without powering it in, how can I tell how much RAM there is?

It has 2 RAM chips, both of which have 256 in the part number.
<CapnKernel2>
Ahh, FAQ says "256X16 then 256Mbit x 16 = 512MB per chip. If your Cubieboard has two of those chips, then the total memory is 1GB". So I'm guessing this is the 1G model.

dongs, if that funny (and unknown to me) OS you're running on cubieboard is the cause of your gripes, there are alternatives. I for example run it with linux which makes a rather interesting device from cubieboard.
<user_2>
someone try to use WINE on cubieboard to make x86 aplication run on?
<Bushmills>
wine doesn't emulate an x86 CPU. it merely offers the windows API. windows programs still wouldn't run
<user_2>
Bushmills, damn'it. thank for info.
<Bushmills>
qemu should be able to do that. but don't let me guess about performance
<Bushmills>
also, an OS requiring 4 gigabytes RAM won't run easily on an emulation on a device with 1 gigabyte
<dongs>
if you want to run windows just get fuckung NUC
<dongs>
not some gimped single-core arm garbage
<user_2>
dongs, what means "NUC"?
<Bushmills>
afaik, development of ARM version of win8 has ceased. and with neither wince not arm8 version can you run x86 windows binaries
<Bushmills>
you may be better off getting an Atom based board for x86 windows stuff
<user_2>
at least im happy they stato to plan ARMv( suippoort of wine. lets wait :)

<dongs> not some gimped single-core arm garbage <- can we please have you leave, or will you require bringing it up with the channel founders to have you banned?
<user_2>
i have *not* to run windows, i was *just* curious in wine works also on arm.
prassel has joined #cubieboard
<dongs>
rm: lemme rephrase, single core gimped arm garbage with shitty memory bandwidth, crap peripherals (of which most aren't actually usable without NDA and even if you ahve one, you still cant get all the proper docs), um i could go on for a while
<user_2>
dongs, allu said is already know here, so?
<dongs>
user_2: right, thats why im wondering why rm is unhappy about it
<rm>
all you do is complain how the CB is useless and how it runs "lunix" (whatever that is), repeatedly over and over again
<rm>
this is just trolling
<dongs>
i am not complaining about "CB"
<rm>
you are not an useful person to have here
<dongs>
im complaining about A10 in g eneral.
<rm>
rather to the contrary
<Bushmills>
seems that dongs is in favour of consumer machines.
<user_2>
dongs, maybe becayse by IRC your sentence sounds more rude than you wish to make.
<Bushmills>
plug and play kind of stuff
<user_2>
A10 cant compete with x86 4core under "horse power" pointi of view, it is not developed for that.
<dongs>
i only used cubie as prototyping/development for a driver I needed to run on a custom a10 hardware, but thta was done few months ago.
<rm>
so as asked above => <n01> wonder why are you still on #cubieboard then
<dongs>
hehe
<user_2>
dongs can say "A10 is a shit", ok. it is under some viewpoint, and "A10 is a pieco of cacke" under other point of view. it does not exist a CPU perfect unted *all* point of view.
<user_2>
dongs, it is not fucking cheap, are the others to be fucking expencive.
<user_2>
this price should be the normality, not the exception.
