hey, i've got a cubieboard2, and trying to install the ubuntu 12.04 desktop image onto the NAND flash, with LiveSuit (for Mac) - however after starting the upgrade process, it hangs at 3%, and never moves.

It also complains about the variable 'j' being nil when I manually shut the cubieboard down after a while. Anyone know what this problem could be? Googling didn't help much..

You probably want most of your system to be hard-float if possible -- with just enough support for soft-float to get java running.
<valdodov>
this will be perfect
<valdodov>
if it is possible
<valdodov>
but when i try to run Oracle's java application
<Gumboot>
I know that Debian-style distros would use something like `apt-get install libc6:armel`, but I don't know if it's actually set up to work that way.
<valdodov>
i have strange answer from the bash - "-bash: /opt/jdk1.7.0_21/bin/java: No such file or directory"
<valdodov>
i'll try your suggestion
<Gumboot>
I'm afraid that's the extent of my knowledge. This isn't _just_ a cubieboard problem, though, so you might try searching around more general ARM communities.

<Gumboot>
Linaro should be on top of this. Maybe they have a solution.
<valdodov>
ok thank you for your help
<Gumboot>
Yeah, that no-such-directory thing is the lack of /lib/ld-linux-armel.so, I think.
<Gumboot>
`ldd /opt/jdk1.7.0_21/bin/java` should mention that file, and say that it's not available. So you start by finding a package that contains that, and work from there.
<Gumboot>
(maybe I got the name wrong, in which case figure it out from ldd)

It would be much better if you could just get a hard-float version of java, though.

Hello. I'm trying to cross-build a kernel for cubieboard2 but I'm not sure which config is needed. Can someone give me a hand? (I'm using sources from https://github.com/cubieboard2/linux-sunxi, is this right?)

pitillo: Yes, but you'll have to switch to another branch
<pitillo>
FR^2: interesting... thank you very much. I'll take a look and try it
<pitillo>
is there a place to look about current support status?
<FR^2>
pitillo: What system are you cross-compiling on?
<FR^2>
not sure.
<pitillo>
FR^2: I'm crosscompiling on a CRUX host with a custom cross-build "enviroment"... the target will be CRUX-ARM for A10 and A20 devices
<FR^2>
okay, my question was phrased wrong, but I got the information I wanted, anyway :) I'm trying to setup crossdev on gentoo (x86_64), but without success yet ;)
<pitillo>
great, I understarnd (sorry about my lack of knowledge) that the right branch is cb2
<FR^2>
can't help you with details, you'll have to wait for others to comment on that.
<pitillo>
ummmm here I'm using CRUX 3.0 (x86_64 host). Not sure about if our current info (current crosstools/toolchain) can give you a sight. Long time without putting hands on crossdev or other cross enviroment
<pitillo>
FR^2: thank you very much. I think cb2 should be the abbreviation for cubieboard2. Let's see if I can make a build :)
<FR^2>
good luck ;) My tries didn't succeed, but I simply used buZz's kernel image and modules from the link I mentioned above, and it fits my needs (e.g. swap enabled...)
<FR^2>
pitillo: Although most people are on both channels, there is also the channel #linux-sunxi which deals with not only cubieboard but the other allwinner devices etc.
<pitillo>
first step here is to crossbuild the kernel... later will put hands on devices to check if it boots and what is supporting. :)
<pitillo>
yeah, I saw it this morning, and asked the same question. They pointed me the reverse (when they took a look to the sources used) and explained the differences between those channels. Currently I prefer to use cubieboard's sources, then we'll have more time to deep in both devices and look for differences and make another choice (or open more possibilities with their sources too)

maybe if you route it through a couple more userland audio mixers and then use another interpreted language, it'll work better.
<dongs>
i'm thinking maybe route though python then to gstreamer than to pulseaudio then to jack then to alsa then maybe it'll get to the kernel, and make sure to control all that with java.
<dongs>
more relevant question: is there a windows RT image for cubieboard2 yet.
<dongs>
because I have a feeling even with zero apps for RT that would still be infinitely more useful than any flavor of lunix.
<Gumboot>
There is an app for RT. I read about it the other day.
