<yang>
i am looking something almost equal in power as miniitx but smaller in size
<yang>
rpi is not powerfull enough for all my needs
<joph>
what do you want to do?
<joph>
probably you can handle it with an additional fpga
praxis has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<yang>
well i need it as a router and running xbmc mostly
<Gumboot>
yang: Which miniitx board do you want to compare with?
<yang>
well just atom powered miniitx
<yang>
so something equal to that, but smaller
<Gumboot>
When I started benchmarking on cubieboard, just to see where things were at, I was a bit surprised to see that it was about twice as powerful as the mini-itx I was using as my main machine.
<Gumboot>
But that machine was about eight years old.
<Swat->
It is powerfull indeed :)
<Swat->
I am so eager to attach a sata ssd to my CB2
<Swat->
but i have to wait for a decent 5v/2A power supply which is on its way.
<joph>
yang, a router is important for the securits
<joph>
*security
<yang>
i dont mind paying more for a good hardware but most rpi sized devices seem to be at experimental level only
<joph>
you shouldn't combine it with other hardware
<joph>
i wouldn't suggest the cubieboard as xbmc device cause it swaps to mx player for hardware acceleration
<yang>
joph well i understand what you are trying to say
<joph>
yeah
<yang>
but i have my reasons
<joph>
always split applications
<yang>
to combinr it
<joph>
i don't see any reason
<joph>
i have here also a gateway running as virtual machine, but it's just a backup gateway and i have stuff like managed switches which allow me to split the ports
<yang>
maybe i will get cubie just for xbmc then and keep router elsewhee
<joph>
yeah
<joph>
cubieboard is for development great, but for xbmc i would suggest a device which already has a case and probably another cpu which offers xbmc without android
* Gumboot
wonders if anything like armbrix (iambrix) will ever appear again
<Gumboot>
Do Allwinner have any Cortex-A15s in the pipeline?
<joph>
cause it's annoying if it switches to mx player, i can control xbmc on the cubieboard with my smartphone, if i start a movie it switches to mx player and bam, no control via smartphone anymore
<buZz>
joph: eh
<buZz>
joph: there is a allwinner xbmc for linux ..
<dongs>
if youre gona waste time running "XBMC" why not just buy a fucking xbox on ebay
<dongs>
and be done wiht it
<buZz>
indeed
<buZz>
dongs: although the P3-xbox has not so much power for 720p
<buZz>
although 720p MP4 works fine
<buZz>
h264, not so much
<joph>
buZz, does this version bring me hw acceleration without android? if yes it's great
<buZz>
joph: why not read?
<dongs>
someone should start a wiki page somewehre
<buZz>
> XBMC has already have an initial port for the A10 SoC with CedarX hardware accelerated video decoding, this experimental third-party port and the code patches has not yet made it upstream into mainline XBMC.[1][2]
<buZz>
dongs: haha yes
<buZz>
:D
<dongs>
comparing all cheap fucking media players
<buZz>
oh that
<dongs>
vs how much time + money would be wasted
<buZz>
i thought a wiki page about allwinner A10 :D
<dongs>
to get opensores "media player" to run on <insert random cheap hardware x>
<buZz>
with xbmc info on it
<dongs>
vs just buying a fucking media player.
<dongs>
that just works.
<joph>
buZz, i see, it offers hardware acceleration
<buZz>
joph: unlike xbmc on android and most stuff on android
<joph>
nice
<buZz>
next time you claim something to be fact, check if it is true first ;)
<joph>
okay ;)
h0cin has joined #cubieboard
<joph>
buZz, i didn't find elsewhere hw acceleration on images offerd for download
<buZz>
as you can read on the wikipage
<buZz>
there is no image for it
<joph>
i know
<buZz>
cubieboard is a board for developers, you need to get hands-on and do stuff
<buZz>
if you want someone to hold your hand, get a raspberry pi :)
<joph>
:D
<joph>
hadn't a lot time till know cause i bought the cubieboard at the middle of the semester ;)
