buZz, no way to hide sata cables?
<buZz>
have you ever looked at cubie formfactor? :D
<utente>
buZz, yes, and it is not so "smart". anyway i see some sata plug at 90 degrees that can be used.
<utente>
at least, im trying to make cb+hdd in a more confortable size
<buZz>
cool, would love to see your work :)
<utente>
buZz, dont stop to breath in the meantime :D
<buZz>
lol, i'll keep that in mind ;)
<utente>
eheheh :)
<utente>
some IBM desktop in little form factor uses 90 degree (and short in lenght) cables: have a look to repair/second-hand shops
<utente>
of course you have to manage the +5V by yourself.
<buZz>
well, i have an overpowered 5V PSU now
<buZz>
4A is really nice&enough
<utente>
i mean about the 2 black&red cable to power the 2.5'' dhh: in standard cubie cable is "built-in", if you user a ibm second-hand cable, there is not inside.
<utente>
btw, im disappointed by A20
<utente>
it is 55nm geometry, too much for a 2cores. i hoped it scrink down to 40nm, but no way. at 55nm it is a warming-up soc.
<lawrence88>
should i print the cubietower case buzz?
<lawrence88>
or is it work in progress still
<utente>
buZz, i donti uderstand well: can i see a pic of the PSU board?
<utente>
ops, i see the link now.
<utente>
4A: inst a ovekill?

lawrence88: no its pretty finalized, and really nice
<buZz>
lawrence88: only thing i dont really like is how deep all the plugs are
<buZz>
stuff like the uSD is pretty hard to remove from the case
<buZz>
and a lot of bigger USB stuff doesnt fit
<lawrence88>
well your last case didn't quite fit
<lawrence88>
so was wondering
<lawrence88>
mind you, i have the vga board on mine, so maybe i shouldn't bother
<utente>
buZz, my idea is to parallelize 2 tiny 5V-2A PSU: they are sized as a normal plug, i take avau the cover andsoldering the wire.. it should double the Ampere, isnt it?
<lawrence88>
i ordered a bunch of george which still didn't arrive
<lawrence88>
so bought vga boards locally - only 50rmb so not too bad
<buZz>
utente: i had bad experiances with paralizing psus ..
<lawrence88>
i wouldn't
<buZz>
lawrence88: this case isnt my design btw
<lawrence88>
rather buy a proper psu
<buZz>
i just designed the PSU part
<utente>
ok
<lawrence88>
a 5v 3a psu isn't hard to find
<lawrence88>
or 4a..
<buZz>
the 4a one was just 5 euros ..
<lawrence88>
then its probably not 4a
<lawrence88>
or regulated

look, i have a psu unable to power cb+hdd on usb: the usb calbe is with "Y" shape. So i plug the second line of "Y" a second psu, and it works. so i got idea to connect 2 power supplt to agregate the total amleres.
<lawrence88>
forums are more updated than wiki imho
<lawrence88>
as its bleeding edge in forums
<benn>
hans told me that he will release a fedora 19 image tomorrow
<lawrence88>
then at some point people update wiki
<Niedved>
:)
<Niedved>
uhh and one more question is there a chance to connect camera to Cubie2 and launch it in Android as main camera ? I need this for my COmputer Vision software developed for Android Phones ;)
<lawrence88>
usb camera probably the easiest i'd think
<lawrence88>
but there is hardware for attaching rear / front camera in soc.
<FR^2>
A simply try of using a usb uvc cam in the default android installation of the cubie2 didn't have any effect on the android camera app: No camera found. But I didn't dig into it any further.
<Niedved>
I tested 2 old webcameras but there's no reaction in os. :) Tomorow I'll attack my friends comp hardware shop maybe there will be reaction for one of them
<lawrence88>
needs drivers compiled into kernel
<lawrence88>
uvc compliant ones work reasonably well.
<lawrence88>
you're lucky, you've never had to backport drivers to 2.4
<lawrence88>
tis hell.
<Niedved>
:)
<Niedved>
The sad thing is that I'm totally noob in things like "compiling smth into kernel etc" :P I'm iOS and Android developer :P
<FR^2>
Me neither - my cubieboard2 doesn't have a touch display connected :D

im interested in webcam too. but the qeustion is: aside the kernel driver to be recompiled, what software to use to see webcam input? vlc is useless, so what else?
<lawrence88>
webcam input is via V4L2
<lawrence88>
eg /dev/video0 typically
<lawrence88>
anything talking to that using video for linux 2 should be able to read it
<lawrence88>
for android, no clue, but probably similar concept
<rm>
it runs in the background and saves snapshots from camera to disk periodically

dudes, i need to read SID (http://linux-sunxi.org/A10/SID). I need a C source code to do it, because want to implement into my code... someone can help me?
<mnemoc>
it used to be in /proc/cpuinfo
<mnemoc>
but you can use devmeme2 to read /dev/mem directly
<mnemoc>
devmem2
<utente>
mnemoc, /proc/cpiunfo is useless, it report 000000.....
deasy has joined #cubieboard
<mnemoc>
utente: meaning your SID is empty
<mnemoc>
happens a lot sadly
<utente>
mnemoc, bad news
<mnemoc>
they "forget" to write the efuses in the factory
<utente>
no choicge to wrire by myself?
<utente>
no choice to write by myself?
<dongs>
2013/7/16 lichee and android.tar.gz...
<dongs>
for A20.. so not worth a download
<utente>
mnemoc, in http://linux-sunxi.org/A10/SID there is a list of "already known" sid, so in some way it is already flashed. so, the qeustion is: where to find the software/utility that read the sid?
<lawrence88>
its in memory
<lawrence88>
just read that address, and parse it otu
<lawrence88>
sid is at location 0x01c23800 in memory
<lawrence88>
so write a few line c code to read, and parse as per wiki
<utente>
lawrence88, im shamed to say, but... my C programming capabilities is not so good, maybe i need one day to do. do you know where can i find aready C source code to compile ad use as example?
<lawrence88>
change the inpw to the correct address, and add some appropriate parsing as per wiki
<dongs>
can you access peripheral registers like that from userspace?
<lawrence88>
should be able to, its addressable memory space
<lawrence88>
easy enough to test.
<utente>
lawrence88, ok, i go to see. i will be happy if i get success to printf the 4 words with SID inside
<lawrence88>
that code is for something else soc wise, but its exactly same concept
<lawrence88>
suggest use the bit_value function from that, and printf as per wiki
<lawrence88>
i could knock something out quickly, but i have other stuff to do today
<lawrence88>
utente - for the speediest test, take it as is, change show_eth to use correct memory location, compile, and see if you get your SID values
<lawrence88>
mind you, your SID is 0x0 right?
<lawrence88>
so 128bits of 0 won't be too interesting
<dongs>
dumb lunix question, wouldnt it be easier to dd from /dev/mem or something
<utente>
lawrence88, ok give me some minutes
<dongs>
dd skip=0x01c23800 bla bla
<lawrence88>
he wants to parse it too,
<lawrence88>
and wanted example code
<dongs>
dd skip=0x01c23800 bla bla | od -x 4 bla bla
<dongs>
keep typing until command is a mile long
<lawrence88>
can you dd from /dev/mem ?
<dongs>
then opensores it
<dongs>
no fucking idea
<dongs>
thats why im sayingsomeone go try it
<dongs>
i dont see why not?
<lawrence88>
i'd just inpw 0xlocation in some 10 line c file, with some parsing
<lawrence88>
then its done
