hi, with build-in android in cubietruck, how can I root the system? The resolution in my 1920x1080 monitor is weird. I need to change the dpi by googling. to change dpi with some apps, that app needs to have root/superuser permission. thanks a lot.
<sgo11>
this is an ARM board. why is not rooted by default? very weird.

rm, just saw your message. android is good for playing games, watching videos in tv. at least here. it's easier for my mum and dad. thanks for your reply.
<rm>
well
<rm>
my reply is a bit exaggerated and controversial :p
<rm>
but maybe a finished product would have been a better choice for parents, rather than a devboard

.... I have successfully set the android dpi to 288. but the result is very weird. fonts and images become even larger. this is not what I expect. anyone has experience on this? thanks.
<rm>
what was the previous dpi?
frank2e has quit [Quit: Let's see what happens if I try that other shiny button...]
<rm>
hmm the default is 240...
<sgo11>
rm, I don't know. I used an app to change the dpi. the app does not tell the previous dpi. I just want fonts and images become smaller. I connect it with VGA to 1980x1080 monitor. thanks.
<rm>
I think you need to decrease it, not increase
<rm>
look for the text "We have here a comparison between the default 240 DPI and 180 DPI:"
<sgo11>
rm, yeah. interesting. why people are talking differently.
<sgo11>
let me try 180 first.
<sgo11>
180 looks similar to the default. let me reduce it again.
<sgo11>
the app told me I can not apply less than 140. interesting.
<sgo11>
rm, thanks a lot for your help. 120 looks much better.

How to shutdown the default android while power connected? when long press the power button, the system reboots. it always reboots. never really shutdown. another weird behavior. I also would like to change "plug the power and then auto turn on" behavior if possible. thanks.
<rm>
not sure about shutdown, maybe there's some tool in the market?
<rm>
and disabling auto-turn-on, may be not possible
<sgo11>
rm, thanks. I am searching the market :)
<sgo11>
rm, I installed a shutdown app. but, it reboots again... what a pity.
<sgo11>
the android system is also too slow. hopefully, when I try lxde with ubuntu, it will be faster.
<sgo11>
i tried two shutdown apps. the system is always rebooted. wth! I don't understand.

hi, I am new to cubieboard. I am trying to install ubuntu to my new cubietruck. by reading this link: http://docs.cubieboard.org/tutorials/a20-cubietruck_lubuntu_desktop_releases, I am very confused. it says "ct_lubuntu_desktop_12.10_20130909.img.gz and ct_lubuntu_desktop_12.10_card0_20130909.img.gz are built without sound modules. but ct_lubuntu_desktop_12.10_20130910.img.gz is ok". but where is ct_lu

could anyone point me to the right direction, please - I'm looking for information regarding WiFi and Bluetooth specifications for Cubietruck

as in, which versions/standards do they support

Hi
<dwirc>
Looking for some resources on hardware /encoding/ on the Cubieboard. I see references to the fact that it can do HW encoding, but not much in the way of capabilities, specs, benchmarks, etc. etc.
<dwirc>
Also, wondering what sort of cameras exist for it?
<dwirc>
Anyone have some insight into this?

<emsyr>
dwirc: you may use any usb camera linux kernel supports
<emsyr>
can't help you about hardware encoding (do you mean hardware acceleration?)
<dwirc>
emsyr: Ah... USB cameras? Does it support full bandwidth, so.. 1080p?
<emsyr>
according to specs yes
oznt has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<dwirc>
Oh.. very interesting
qermit has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<dwirc>
Oh... I guess I should have specified.
<dwirc>
1080p30
<dwirc>
It doesn't look like the Cubieboards, any revision, support that sort of bandwidth via USB
<dwirc>
Theydo have a CSI port... That's what I'm interested in.
<emsyr>
I know that there is such a cam for raspberry-pi
<emsyr>
You have to search if you can connect it on cubie
<dwirc>
yep. been playing around with that. the RPi has hardware accelerated (full) encoding in H.264. The problem is, supporting the stream is almost impossible with the processing power available on the pi.
<dwirc>
The cubie seems to have much more power behind it, so really hoping to have some sort of camera solution.
<dwirc>
Unforutnately, the camera seems to use a different CSI spec / pinout from the Pi.
<emsyr>
so, you have to do some hardware hacking
<emsyr>
or ask for such a cam in cubie forum
<emsyr>
maybe someone would be available to start such a project
<dwirc>
true enough =-)
