<pikajude>
they wouldn't be any more dated than the joke about mac users not being able to right click
<pikajude>
go for it
<alexgordon>
my mother doesn't know how to right click
<pikajude>
fair enough
<alexgordon>
maybe another 10 years
<alexgordon>
-_-
<ec>
lmao alexgordon
<ec>
the weird thing?
<ec>
my mother, who knew nothing about computers whatsoever, used linux
<ec>
because she worked for the department of defense, and was institutionally required to use their USB-stick ephemeral OS
<pikajude>
that's pretty clever
<ec>
it was so mangled by DOD iconography and weird little applets that I couldn't tell what distro it was based on the one or two times I saw it; but probably debian?
<ec>
but yeah, my terrible mother using Linux for a long time without having the slightest idea she was doing so says a lot for the ‘Year of Linux on the Desktop’ crowd
<alexgordon>
linux is the most popular OS in the world, if you count android
<ljharb>
it's totally the year of linux on the desktop
eligrey has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<pikajude>
what is
<mkroman>
did I miss something? last time I checked there still werent a decent DE available
<gkatsev>
ljharb: hasn't it been that for the past 3 years, though. If not more?
<mkroman>
I used to like awesome, but I prefer being able to manage my windows better, with i3
<alexgordon>
I downloaded ALL of the tiling window managers, just to try them
<alexgordon>
xmonad won
<gkatsev>
I switched to awesome from xmonad because xmonad didn't handle multiple monitors correctly. I think it does now but hadn't had a chance to try it.
<gkatsev>
and awesome is serving me just fine.
<ljharb>
gkatsev: :-p
<alexgordon>
gkatsev: multiple monitors? you must be rich :P
<ljharb>
or employed - you just ask IT for another monitor, silly
<ec>
xmonad requires haskell
<ec>
instant nope
<ec>
awesome is great
<ec>
or was, when I bothered trying to LaaD my life
<meowrobot>
(i realize i am i think two days late on this but my memory is a fickle beast lol)
<purr>
lol
<meowrobot>
yes purr
<ec>
hating on heroku
<ec>
grrrrrr
<ec>
I have no idea what's going on here I'm so confused
<ec>
meowrobot: /me waves back
<ec>
~one tiny world~
<ec>
been there so hard
<ec>
my life hit critical mass hardcore a couple weeks ago
<ec>
that's why I'm bacon IRC.
<meowrobot>
aaahh
* meowrobot
hugs
<ec>
I basically dumped everyone in my life, all obligations or anything. now I have nothing to do but sit up all night at the computer in my sweats, and occasionally venture outside to let the dogs pee.
<ec>
it's been *really* great for rebuilding spoons.
<ec>
you?
<meowrobot>
heh, hmm
<meowrobot>
well for the last several months i've been having my cervical spine act up randomly...lately even moreso, plus i might potentially have bacteria in my stomach that is either giving me acid attacks or causing there to be too little acid, according to descriptions i've read/been told
<meowrobot>
in the most recent months it would seem my schizophrenia is deciding to poke me badly too, though, not too badly...thankfully.....and i have my mother to deal with
<meowrobot>
who is not only irresponsible financially and abusive but also does things like accidentally poisoning a kitten with flea control medication two days ago.
<meowrobot>
and not being willing to lift a finger to help that so i had to take matters into my own hands, and i hope the kitten stays ok in the next few days.
<meowrobot>
speaking of kittens, we've been having litters and we're desperately trying to find places to give them to, but the house is also resembling of a cat hoarder's as of late
<meowrobot>
so i don't venture outside of my room whenever i can.
<meowrobot>
there's more but it kind of gets progressively darker so i'll end it there.
