okay I'm on IRCCloud now!
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katymoe: congrats!
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katymoe: I love it so much
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
sorry if I'm unresponsive, I'm mucking around with those GitHub badges
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
it's surprisingly difficult to make a README look good on GitHub.
<glitch-hat>
no that's cool, I'm at the computer intermittently between family (& BB-8...) time
<glitch-hat>
oops, wrong window
<katymoe>
so IRCCloud doesn't have a native OSX app?
<katymoe>
maybe I'll have to wrap it in Electron :)
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
BB-8!
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katymoe: once, a long time ago, I created an app-specific browser wrapper for it; but it wasn't worth the trouble to maintain. I tend to just use Chrome as my ‘IRCcloud-specific app’, since I almost exclusively use Safari for everyday browsing.
<katymoe>
wow, you're probably the only dev I know who prefers Safari
<katymoe>
why is that?
<Rurik>
ELLIOTTCABLE, here now
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
katymoe: hm. I'd link you to a recent discussion about precisely that in this channel, but I can't find it
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
turns out about half this channel actually prefers Safari, which surprised me; I thought I was alone.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
Long story short: Chrome is *terrible* on OS X. Like, it just can't keep up, any more, in terms of end-user usability as a *browser*.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
Add to that that the yes-they-are-slightly-inferior-functionally dev tools are also way more *pretty*, at least, as of Mavericks or so, than the Chrome ones, and it's a great go-to.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
I basically only open Chrome when I'm doing front-end stuff (rarely), or when the Safari inspector is specifically inferior in a way that actually affects me
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
</opinionated>
<katymoe>
interesting perspective
<katymoe>
if it's pretty dev tools you're after, you tried Firefox Dev Edition?

<meowrobot>
<ELLIOTTCABLE> Long story short: Chrome is *terrible* on OS X. Like, it just can't keep up, any more, in terms of end-user usability as a *browser*. <- i thought i was alone in noticing this too. but i wrote it off as a 10.6 thing since i assumed it'd have improved since ... i suppose not.
<meowrobot>
the OS X Chrome is so CPU-intensive so much compared to the Windows Chrome
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
meowrobot: i mean, completely forgetting all subjective aesthetics; completely forgetting all genuine usability concerns (*why* can't Google hire a goddamned skilled designer? or, more likely why can't they give the designers they already have free reign, and control over *development* decisions, so that they actually produce usable products? ಠ_ಠ)
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
there's the battery-life alone.
<meowrobot>
i also thought it might be because of how OS X manages memory since i've noticed some other programs having...similar behavior, but it's a theory
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
they've had *several major OS revisions* to start using OS X's battery-life-saving features
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
and they don't.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
The battery-life of my laptop *literally halves* when Chrome is open.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
Not even with any tabs. Just launched, with zero windows open.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
it's total bullshit. This is unacceptable in 2015. /=
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
Safari, I can have dozens of windows open, and still experience six, seven hours battery-life. /=
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
i dislike that stupid Follow ELLIOTTCABLE badge: but there's a Shields.io bug where you can't control the ‘label’ of ‘social’ badges
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
gonna report that when I finish here >,<
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
ugh. super-cute server has been super-nice to me all night; keeping my soda topped and checking on me for like *six hours*,
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
and she just brought me the check 'cuz she's closing out, and I discovered I forgot my wallet.
<ELLIOTTCABLE>
I feel like such shut, she's covering my meal, 'cuz Christmas, but lol
<purr>
lol
<katymoe>
aww
<katymoe>
also regarding IRCCloud, I might move back to LimeChat if there's no native client for OSX
<katymoe>
despite the ridiculous memory usage, I do prefer Chrome for general usage and tend to have as many tabs as I can open without hiding favicons...
<glitch-hat>
also LimeChat is pretty

if I can ever change my fucking nickname ffs

huh? you don't … IRC is plain-text (well, there are caveats, but)
