<ZirconiumX> ~~PlayStation~~ Portable Sound Format. Basically the standard for playback of PS1/PS2 games.
<whitequark> mhm
<whitequark> is it documented
<ZirconiumX> Yeah, actually.
<ZirconiumX> Though, this is Sony, *so*
<whitequark> no like the pinout
<ZirconiumX> Also yes, in the service manuals
<ZirconiumX> Unfortunately I don't know sound protocols very well, but
<whitequark> oh a parallel bus
<whitequark> glasgow can't do these yet
<whitequark> hrm
<fridtjof[m]> I have the PS2 SDK with docs and everything including the manual/reference for the SPU2, if you're interested
<ZirconiumX> The DAC data appears to be here: https://puu.sh/D12q0/99b379724a.png
<whitequark> that vaguely looks like i2s?
<whitequark> fridtjof[m]: might look at it later
<whitequark> like, months later
<whitequark> but yeah
<ZirconiumX> The DAC is a CS4335-KS
<ZirconiumX> This also resembles I2S
<ZirconiumX> SDATA = SD, SCLK = SCK, LRCK = WS
<ZirconiumX> Yeah, seems like it is I2S output.

<fridtjof[m]> (i hope this works in IRC, should be a link)

<ZirconiumX> Yeah, it works
<fridtjof[m]> but it seems like the SPU2 is indeed connected to a parallel bus (? - i dont know a lot about electronics) that leads to the IOP (IO co processor on the ps2)
<ZirconiumX> The IOP communicates with the SPU2
<fridtjof[m]> yup
<ZirconiumX> I think it's mostly just address/data though
<whitequark> glasgow needs to have a serial-to-parallel converter attachment
<whitequark> but it's not there yet
<ZirconiumX> Soon(tm)?
<ZirconiumX> What made you come up with the name Glasgow, other than it being a Scottish city?
<ZirconiumX> "sent a long message"
<whitequark> ZirconiumX: FTDI
<ZirconiumX> Four lines of text.
<fridtjof[m]> god dammit
<whitequark> FTDI's headquarters are in Glasgow
<whitequark> and FTDI is kind of trash
<whitequark> like, counterfeits of FTDI chips work better than real silicon
<fridtjof[m]> ZirconiumX: how did that display exactly?
<whitequark> which is probably why they try to ruin them
<fridtjof[m]> w o w
<ZirconiumX> fridtjof[m]: As a side note, my copy of the schematics doesn't actually have an IC502
<ZirconiumX> Though you have a different SPU2 chip, so
<fridtjof[m]> what hw revision is yours for?
<ZirconiumX> (I have a CXD2947R
<ZirconiumX> )
<ZirconiumX> SCPH-3900x
<ZirconiumX> GH-022
<fridtjof[m]> mine says SCPH-30002D/30003D/30004D - GH-010
<fridtjof[m]> yours is newer i think?
<ZirconiumX> A bit newer, yeah
<fridtjof[m]> maybe they included the DRAM in the SPU2 later on or something
<fridtjof[m]> or just moved it
<ZirconiumX> Our chips have entirely different pinouts
<ZirconiumX> I mean, since the GS has had embedded RAM, it seems reasonable enough to integrate it into the SPU2
<fridtjof[m]> more revisions!
<ZirconiumX> I think in the 2955 they integrated the SSBUSC
<apo> whitequark │ like, counterfeits of FTDI chips work better than real silicon <- you mean the bitbang mode?
<ZirconiumX> Yeah, the [model database](http://ichiba.geocities.jp/ysai187/PS2/models.htm) seems to confirm this
<whitequark> apo: yeah
<apo> whitequark: that waveform marcan posted a while ago is always good for a laugh
<whitequark> yep
