<nmz787> it'd be interesting to see if you find some settings that change the exhaust smell. my 2003 VW Jetta TDI smells like 'thick crayons' but I've heard new diesels have no smell (not sure if the DEF systems are responsible or not)
<Noxz> a 1.6L diesel from a 2018 Chevy Cruze with 3 miles on it
<Noxz> it normally has a turbo, but was removed from the engine, also no throttle body
<Noxz> and yeah, DPF and DEF etc systems help a bunch

<Noxz> I kinda wish the cat converter came with the engine, but meh
<Noxz> the main deal is I am interested in biodiesel
<Noxz> and I didnt want some super ancient VW or Merc
<Noxz> so something more modern
<Noxz> it will be faster to hack a diesel engine than to get my electric car working (from the state it's in)

<Noxz> WVO.. that has a "sticky" glycerin backbone.. the whole idea of biodiesel is transesterification of that tri glyceride into three methyl(or longer) esters which is not as sticky

<nmz787> Noxz: nice find, I was intrigued by those little engines when I was scanning the vehcile market earlier this year
<nmz787> Noxz: I've also watched a bunch of youtube videos on teenagers testing a '$100 ebay turbo' and it seemed like they weren't terrible
<nmz787> I was always interested in running WVO or biodiesel in my Jetta... I've run b99 before, but was always wary as the anecdotal reports online tended to lead to some sort of gasket damage somewhere
<nmz787> but I remember ramping up the concentration from pure petrol to b100 over a few fuel station trips... my theory being I wouldn't shock the gaskets if they did swell/shrink, so maybe I'd be OK
<nmz787> mostly though I've just used petroleum based tho
<nmz787> I threw oversized injectors in it about 1.5 years ago, definitely added a little pep

<Noxz> and yeah, finding a turbo for it shouldnt be too hard, even aftermarket

<nmz787> most recently it was in regards to a 2 stroke gasoline motorcycle engine though... and I ended up just leaving the carb on it
