<dshankar> I'm trying to get VPU accelerated debian on gk802 & everything I've tried in the past week hasn't worked -- no screen. My monitor & projector can't detect an attached HDMI device. Any ideas on what I've doing wrong?
<dshankar> clearly I'm doing something wrong because I have the original sd card and that boots just fine to stock android.

<hste> dshankar: You could try this installer http://stende.no-ip.info/imx6/gk802/3.0.35_4.1.0/scripts/mkjessie.sh
<dshankar> hste: thanks will give it a shot
<dshankar> thats based on your previous xubuntu script right?
<hste> yes
<dshankar> I went through most of those steps manually myself, though I used a different uboot

<dshankar> managed to get a terminal (which is promising!)
<dshankar> found another problem. the precompiled boot.scr sets root = /dev/mmcblk0p1, which isn't the case for everyone. mine is /dev/sdc1 for example. will compile my own. that should fix everything :-)

<dshankar> nevermind the above. i was wrong... still stuck on the console though. just a blinking cursor and a usb keyboard doesn't do anything. without a usb keyboard, I don't even get a blinking cursor. just a black screen :(

<hste__> dshankar: I thought I had fixed that on the lxde version of the image that beeing used in the installerscript., but try to switch console wiyh ctrl-alt-f1 login as root/root and do a dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
<dshankar> hste__: ah ok
<dshankar> will try that now
<dshankar> hste__: ctrl-alt-f1 isn't doing anything - perhaps my keyboard isn't being recognized?

<hste__> dshankar: does the numlock toogle work?
<dshankar> hste__: now I'm not even getting a console. my screen doesn't think a device is connected
<dshankar> i don't think my keyboard is getting any power, because toggling capslock/numlock doesn't turn on my capslock light (it does on other computers)
<dshankar> hste__: ah! I used a different image
<dshankar> I used http://stende.no-ip.info/imx6/jessie-lxde.tar.xz which i downloaded a few days ago
<dshankar> possible problem?
<hste__> dshankar:no. thats the same image. Do you have usb ethernet dongle?
<dshankar> i don't
<dshankar> hste__: just ordered a usb-ttl cable to see the serial console info
<dshankar> how would usb-ethernet dongle help?
<hste__> dshankar: Do u use a powered hub? I have to do that to get enough power to run usb on my gk802
<dshankar> dshankar: I don't. But I can use my monitor's USB hub. I think that's powered.
<dshankar> oops hste__ : ^

<dshankar> hste__: I have no idea what I did... but I did a full reinstall and it booted straight into a login screen. I appreciate all the help!
<hste__> dshankar:could be a sdcard-problem
<dshankar> yeah possible corruption
<dshankar> i'm using the horrible class 4 8gb sd cards that came with my gk802s
<abrasive> are they really 8gb? :>
<dshankar> abrasive: yeah afaik
<abrasive> the only 8gb card I ever got with anything was capacity faked :(
<dshankar> that's possible
<dshankar> but it shows up as a 7.4GB disk in OS X and debian
<abrasive> that doesn't at all mean that it's not fake :)
<abrasive> you actually need to write all the bytes to find out
<dshankar> you think the sd card reports a lot more sectors than it can actually write?!
<dshankar> lol
<abrasive> yes, absolutely
<abrasive> people reprogram them to do so.
<dshankar> sucks that the ~only trustworthy sd card manufacturer is sandisk, and their cards are so overpriced
<abrasive> all the big name ones are trustworthy; but unless you're buying direct from them, the channel isn't necessarily.
<dshankar> wouldn't be surprised to see fake ones with printed sandisk labels
<dshankar> yeah
<dshankar> did you read this? http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?p=3554
<dshankar> very interesting stuff
<abrasive> you might want to test one of them and see. eg. dd a 7.4gb file over one of them, then check the md5sum
<abrasive> yeah

<dshankar> what's the network configuration process here? manually edit the files?
<dshankar> looks like there's no ifup/ifdown either
<hste__> dshankar: the lxde image should have networkmanager in the gui. Do you have a wlan0 interface running ifconfig -a?
<dshankar> i can't run ifconfig
<hste__> sudo ifconfig -a
<dshankar> nope
<dshankar> ifconfig command not found
<dshankar> haha whoops! forgot sudo
<dshankar> yeah now it's easy to setup via terminal. was surprised when i could do ifconfig etc. :-)
<dshankar> now to attempt to get chromium up and running! i remember some armhf issues with chromium before
<hste__> dshankar: I think it should just be to apt-get install chromium

<JBD1986> all, I've got the following error in my Xorg.log: (EE) AIGLX error: vivante exports no extensions (/usr/lib/dri/vivante_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driDriverExtensions)
<JBD1986> I've recently upgraded to Dora, from dylan
<JBD1986> I'll have to go back and check, but I believe this error was present in dylan as well
<JBD1986> I was using fbdev in dylan, and am now using the vivante driver in dora.
<JBD1986> I'm experiencing lag when dragging windows around the desktop (openbox is the window manager).
<JBD1986> I'm hoping this is related to the DRI issue
<hste> JBD1986: Thats normal and not a problem. We don't need AIGLX. Do you have a pastebin of your logfile?
<JBD1986> hste, I can make one, just a min
<JBD1986> with top, I can see that while dragging windows around, the x server listener jumps up to around 50% cpu (1 full core out of 2).
<JBD1986> note: small windows are reasonable. They barely lag, if at all, while dragging
<JBD1986> once the window takes up about 25-30% of the screen it gets bad
<hste> JBD1986: The xorg looks ok
<JBD1986> and any larger than that comes to a crawl
<hste> JBD1986: Do you have /opt/ samples files?
<JBD1986> no
<JBD1986> going to lunch, will provide more details after
<hste> JBD1986: try unset fbmem in boot 32M maybe to litle

<JBD1986> is there a way to see how much fbmem is actually set to while linux is running?
<JBD1986> I suspect that number is overwritten automatically
<hste> try not to set it
<JBD1986> setting it to 128 didn't help, will try removing the line
<JBD1986> nah, didn't change anything
<JBD1986> note: while dragging the window around, the background of where the window was is gray. That fills in with the desktop background quickly, but it is noticeable
<JBD1986> Ah! even more interesting
<JBD1986> if i drag the window straight up, there is no gray area, and it doesn't lag

<JBD1986> jas-hacks, I made some posts above regarding the following error:
<JBD1986> (EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
<JBD1986> and L
<JBD1986> (EE) AIGLX error: vivante exports no extensions (/usr/lib/dri/vivante_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driDriverExtensions)
<jas-hacks> JBD1986: they are surplus errors, because vivante drivers don't implement AIGLX
<JBD1986> is that documented by freescale or vivante?
<jas-hacks> AIGLX is for glx non-DRI implementation. It is commented somewhere on the FSL community site.
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, can't access that link
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, Thanks
<JBD1986> wait, If i'm seeing that error, does that mean my DRI path failed?
<JBD1986> note: I also see this error:
<JBD1986> II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable
<JBD1986> well not really an error
<JBD1986> but relevant output
<JBD1986> I even see this:
<JBD1986> II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable
<JBD1986> sorry
<JBD1986> (==) AIGLX enabled
<JBD1986> and later:
<JBD1986> (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized swrast
<jas-hacks> thats should be ok because it should never use AIGLX
<JBD1986> is there anyway to make sure it's not attempting to use AIGLX (and the normal rendering method is in place)?
<jas-hacks> xorg log should look like this http://pastebin.com/uCEeN2mV
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, http://pastebin.com/XmFP5cbw
<JBD1986> that's mine

<JBD1986> Option "AIGLX" "false"

<JBD1986> No
<JBD1986> I suppose I could kick off a build and add those and glxinfo in
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, do you know the package name for the vivante samples by any chance?
<jas-hacks> JBD1986: sorry don't know
<JBD1986> no problem
<JBD1986> i'm guessing it's vivante-gpu-sdk
rz2k has joined #imx6-dongle
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, I'm building those in now, will take some time. Any ideas on the lagginess while dragging windows? Only lags when the window being dragged would leave some new desktop background exposed.
<jas-hacks> I just tested on the debian image, I don't get lag when I drag
<jas-hacks> I get margin repaint issues when resizing a window
<JBD1986> can you try making the window you are moving around larger?
<JBD1986> like make it take up 50% of the screen
<jas-hacks> thats works fine
<JBD1986> well that would lead me to believe that I am missing something, or am applying some feature that is bogging down the system
<jas-hacks> do you have libg2d.so
<jas-hacks> if you are using the 3.10.1 gpu libs?
<jas-hacks> 3.10.9-1 gpu libs
<JBD1986> i did "find / -name "libg2d.so"
<JBD1986> no results
<jas-hacks> is dora on 3.10.9-1 gpu libs?
<jas-hacks> looks like it is
<JBD1986> gpu-viv-g2d_3.10.9-1.0.0.bb
<jas-hacks> then it is missing gpu-viv-g2d-3.10.9-1.0.0.bin
<JBD1986> ok, so in theory I can include that. Does the vivante driver attempt to load that, or do I need to tie it in?
<jas-hacks> it will use it for 2d stuff if it is there. It contains just one lib file so you can copy it over.
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, so all I have to do is copy that to /usr/lib/ ?
<jas-hacks> so be ok in /usr/lib
<JBD1986> ok, did not solve issue, any way I can verify the module?
<JBD1986> I strongly suspect it isn't being loaded
<JBD1986> i think there is more than just the *.so
<jas-hacks> which module?
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, I've added the package in, and I'm doing a full build. Will test tomorrow
<JBD1986> libg2d
<jas-hacks> it's used by the 2d examples in glmark2 and glmark2-es2
<JBD1986> But is there any way to tell it was loaded at startup?
<JBD1986> I see these items in the .inc file:
<JBD1986> do_install () {
<JBD1986> install -d ${D}${libdir}
<JBD1986> cp ${S}/usr/lib/*.so ${D}${libdir}
<JBD1986> install -d ${D}${includedir}
<JBD1986> cp -axr ${S}/usr/include/* ${D}${includedir}
<JBD1986> cp -axr ${S}/opt ${D}
<JBD1986> find ${D}${libdir} -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
<JBD1986> find ${D}${includedir} -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
<JBD1986> }
<JBD1986> so there is something to go in /usr/include/
<jas-hacks> /usr/include is where the gl/egl/gles headers files are placed, but aren't needed for running only for compilation
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, Well, there was no improvement by adding that library
<JBD1986> jas-hacks, I'll test the full image tomorrow, but I'll have to look for other possible issues
